The grades are mostly horseshit anyways though. Scaling has a lot to do with the base damage of the weapon as well. S scaling on a dagger will probably add less damage than C scaling on a giant weapon, given comparable stats.

Yea, that's true. Gotta look at all the details like moveset, dmg, how many upgrades it can take etc.

While I was farming some souls to buy titantie, one of the serpents dropped a MSGS. I've already bumped it to +6. We'll see.

Well, the Snorlax and Pikachu fight is the last great skill gateway in the game: after that you're ready to face Seath, Nito, the Witch of Izaleth and the Four Kings.

Welp, finished the game. Missed great hollow/ash lake/expansion areas so I have that to look forward to. Will take a break for a while though, don't want to get tired of it.

that and lost izalith + crystal library are boring
With Lost Izalith they just ran out of... well, everything. The area has interesting architecture but goes underused, many enemies are recycled bosses, they reuse the Asylum Demon AGAIN, the final boss is boring, some areas close to the boss door are just not rendered and there's a bunch of enemies there that are just dragon asses.

The Library was not bad up until the crystal cave, New Londo was way too short and Tomb of the Giants was just boring with its extreme darkness.

The game pretty much went to shit after Anor Londo. Which is a shame, because the first half is really good.

Absolutely agree. Thankfully, the DLC areas kind of made up for it. Great bosses, new enemies, and the area design was pretty damn cool. I especially liked the descent thru the corrupted city into the abyss.

I haven't played DaS2 yet, somehow.
How did that fare, area-wise, compared to DaS1? Was it the same deal where the vanilla ran outta steam two thirds thru and the DLC areas were great?

more like areas are hit & miss throughout your whole play-through in vanilla game but than those 3 dlc are easily best parts of Souls franchise.

Alright. First off, you know how many areas circle around in Dark Souls 1? Well, there's a lot less of that in Dark Souls 2. Areas tend to be alot more linear as well with less side paths. Quick summary of areas:

- Forest of the Fallen Giants is a pretty sweet starter area, and offers rewards to those who return prepared later in the game.
- Up to the Lost Sinner: the first part is pretty but kinda eh in design (just a straight path with one thing to an optional boss), the second and third parts are pretty cool but the last bit up to the boss is kinda eh.
- Up to the Old Iron King: The second locale is kinda eh in looks and design, but the first, third and especially the fourth are awesome.
- Up to the Duke's Dear Freya: The first part of the Shaded Ruins is lifted straight from a Silent Hill game (SO MUCH FOG) and the second part is kinda eh, the Doors of Pharros is more a formality if you don't want to get to the optional boss and Tseldora is pretty sweet if you like exploring.
- Up to the Rotten: The Gutter is Blighttown but with less light and less annoying dudes trying to poison you, and the Black Gulch is REALLY FUCKING ANNOYING.
- Drangleic Castle is awesome (Anor Londo but in the rain), the Shrine of Amana feels like it's way too long, and the Undead Crypt has a nasty habit of swarming you with enemies.
- The Keep is good if you like indoor locations, the run up to the Shrine is pretty but filled with very powerful enemies so you have to be careful, and the Keep itself feels kinda underused.

As for DLC:
- Crown of the Sunken King has a great atmosphere and exploration options in the first half, but in the second it's kinda a mix of the Shrine of Amana and the Undead Crypt.
- Crown of the Old Iron King is awesome and feels like a cohesive experience, but certain outdoors parts can be rather annoying because of the enemies.
- Crown of the Ivory King I didn't finish yet, but the areas feel connected and it's a nice change of scenery.

Sounds cool! Yeah, I was bummed too when I heard in previews how you have bonfire teleport from the get-go. Figured it would inevitably dumb down the area design.

Hope they do away with it in DaS3. Finding a connection between areas in DaS1 was always great.

Well, you can create some loopbacks here and there, but those ar almost always within the confines of a single area.

Okay, there are technically two ways into the Bastille but in both cases you miss out on quite a bit of content. Oh, and do note that the first four bosses that I mentioned can be fought in any order, kinda like how you can go after the Lord Souls in Dark Souls 1 after getting the Lordvessel. Personally I prefer to stick the order that I mentioned. Maybe go after The Duke's Dear Freya last, because the final stretch up to that fight is pretty long and the enemies up to that point can be a bitch.

After finishing Dark Souls with a bunch of Rock Band controllers, it was about time to drop the physical controllers and play the game with 0 hands and a microphone.

I used VoiceAttack to translate voice controls into keyboard presses. For the most part the detection was good, but the latency was around 1.5 seconds, and commands couldn't be chained together quickly. I ended up with a wide variety of commands (including some complex macros) but it was still extremely difficult.

30 hours of suffering, almost losing my voice several times, and 485 deaths later, I finally completed the game. 111 of those deaths were to O+S alone

This guy... This guy.
