Doesn't matter. Gamepads are specifically made so even the most retarded CoD kid can instantly master them, how can someone admit to finding them difficult to use without a hint of shame is beyond me :?

Why don't you address your comments to the one you're commenting on, instead of being a passive-aggressive little fag like always? Are you ashamed to be a filthy console peasant, that can't read before spouting stupid shit?

Read what I wrote, then read it again until you get in your slow consolified mind that my complaints have nothing to do with my ability to use the gamepad, but my unwillingness to adapt to the control scheme which is inferior to the proper K+M controls, in the case of Dark Souls. This should make it easier to read. Just read slooowly. You'll eventually get it.

Tell me the game couldn't be played better with mouse controlling the camera? Go ahead, let's hear it. You like playing with the gamepad and would play with the gamepad even if K+M was working properly, you filthy subhuman.

In the future if you have something to say to me, say it to me. Don't hide in a circlejerk of your fellow consoltards, bitch.

It's weird, back in the day PC gamers respected the modularity of their device and had all sorts of control options for their different games...

There was this kind of thing for flight simulators and games like Descent & shit, even switching between the two Input methods in games like Battlefield:

There was this kind of thing for driving games and the likes:

And there were even gamepads before this "analogue stick" stuff became a thing for certain games and they used P/S2 Connectors.

And of course there was always the glorious Keyboard+Mouse for RTS, FPS, RPGs and so on.

We used to laugh at the dirty console peasants for only being able to use this thing for all their games and having no options:

Nowadays a certain part of the master race seems to always complain whenever something is not best played with Keyboard+Mouse.
Nowadays a certain part of master race needs to find the final solution to heretics like you, who pollute our ranks with their retarded logic and straw men arguments, excusing the lack of proper control options for PC games, that's for certain.

Do you not see the difference between using a wheel for a racing game or a joystick for a flight simulation and using a gamepad for Dark Souls? Do you not understand that playing Dark Souls with proper K+M controls would be better and more "productive", than playing it with a gamepad (at least for the members of the master race, so I guess you wouldn't understand)? If you don't need the analog input that the sticks and triggers provide, K+M is (almost) always the better control scheme. Even in some cases when you do (for non-critical functions), speed, precision and versatility of K+M can be a good trade-off.

Game is p. fun, but I'm finding the most difficult aspect of the game to be finding my way around without getting lost. Everything is so dark and looks similar, and to be honest I have a pretty terrible sense of direction even in games.

I'm playing completely blind, too, so I'm probably building a completely shit character. Oh well, that's the fun of CRPGs anyway. :smug:

I actually found it remarkably easy to find my way around, and I usually get lost easily too. The only parts of the game that are samey are undead burg areas and dark root areas. Everything else has a very distinct look to it. They do front load one of the largest areas in the game though, so it does give an impression like that I guess, if you don't wander off the path. But once you get out a bit further, theres no way in hell you'll confuse Sen's Fortress with anything else, for example.

Well, I'm in the Undead Burg right now, so I guess that might explain it. I guess it's not too bad, since you can generally tell you've been by the trail of dead assuming you don't die.

I don't really feel the "GOTY 2012!!!!!" everyone seemed to go crazy about so far, but it's some fun at least once I got used to the controls a little better. Also, the resolution fix makes the game chug pretty hardcore at point on my computer, unfortunately.

Fog doors are such a simple yet magnificent concept. You never know if there's a boss waiting behind or just a regular passage.

Btw. is there any vendor in this game that will buy my junk or can I safely drop it? Inventory management is getting atrocious the more stuff you carry. List showing 4 items max must be a new low.

Eventually, there is an NPC that will take stuff in exchange of souls. However, the exchange is so insignificant that you're best served by getting rid of whatever duplicates of what you don't need (the amount of souls you'll get isn't worth carrying them around or farming them).

You can stick whatever you want in the bottomless box, which is bought from either the male undead merchant or the first blacksmith - can't remember.

First attempt on taurus demon (First encounter was me seeing him and trying to run back inside only to find HEY THE MIST IS BACK AND YOU CAN'T PASS THROUGH IT NOW EVEN THOUGH YOU COULD BEFORE LOL VIDEOGAME)

The mist didn't disappear, it just didn't allow you to go back until the problem has been resolved. You should expect there was some trouble when you seen it...

DSfix 0.4 released

This version fixes the Depth of Field (DoF) effect, the last huge “bug” of the mod in my opinion.
  • Added an .ini setting for overriding the DoF resolution
  • I also provide the option to completely disable DoF scaling. However, I don’t recommend that. I think the game looks better with DoF, and it’s the way From Software intended it. Also, disabling the DoF this way may actually reduce performance.

11 hours in, I think I can say with some degree of certainty that it's playable with keyboard and mouse, if that's dissuaded any members of the master race from giving it a proper go.

Mouselook is horribly jerky and imprecise (more so than an analogue stick!) but you don't need a fine degree of control so in the end it's an annoyance only in the rare occasions where you want to use a bow. The interface and keybinds are definitely subpar but don't really get in the way of the game after you've grown accustomed to them.

More annoying is the lock mechanic, as the only way of switching between locked enemies is moving the mouse left or right, which is stupidly imprecise. This wouldn't be an issue if there was some way of turning your character independent of movement since getting flanked even by shitty enemies is often deadly. In particular it would be tremendously helpful if you could make your character turn with the camera all the time rather than just when moving forwards. Not that it would be mitigated by using a controller, as far as I can tell.

Regarding the actual game, I like it. Contemplating buying it, even.

Acquired this and played for like 10 min. Looks horrible, controls are extremely bad too. Another one of "those" games eh? Well I'll see whats hidden inside...

Being undead means you have no allies, which makes the boss fights in particular much more difficult. You also get extra defense and droprate while alive.

Being alive doesn't mean you need to use allies, I've never used them myself. Extra defense and drop rate comes from stacking humanity, it has nothing to do with being alive or not.

I think if you haven't been lost in the middle of an area with only a few healing potions left and then invaded by an enemy player you just haven't played Dark Souls.

It's having humanity that gives you the defence/droprate boost, not being alive. Going human is just for multiplayer and kindling.
Going human also allows for NPC invasions, which are the only sources of some items. There are also NPCs available for summoning when human, like a pair of sunbros against the Gaping Dragon and a beefy naked chick against Quelaag.

What's a good, quick blade for DEXers? Using the Scimitar at the moment, feeling a bit underequiped. Going for a pure dex two-handed with magic buffs on this character.

How well does armor scale? Is there a known formula for the damage reduction? At the moment if I get hit I almost die instantly, but I figure that minor smithing won't change that much.

Made it to Blighttown. Course, I've detoured all across the place because I missed the stairway in Undead Parish ( :retarded: ) and taken out Hydra and Moonlight butterfly in the process. Got Wolf and Havel's ring out of it though, which was nice.

I liked the Balder side sword. It's a drop from the knights in undead parish.

Or bandit knife - drop from the thieves in lower burg.

Speaking of weapons, I've been using an upgraded spiked mace from the Burg merchant for the past 30 levels. The heavy jump attack one-shots pretty much all regular mobs, and it has a bleed effect on top of that. All the other weapons I find are inferior in one way or another; slow, unwieldy, or less damage. Should I use the rare crafting mats to upgrade it further or are there any replacements in sight?

Forgot to ask: Do these both have the same kick attack as the scimitar? It's not a kick, but a slice and then a very useful somersault backwards. Dash attack forward after a backwards dodge would be nice to keep as well, those two can be chained on almost everything.

Yeah, game looks beautiful for a console port now.
