See the problem here is - Rippers, Super Sledges and Power Fists have little in common with the life experience of an average human, and so pseudo science can be substituted without a critical suspension of disbelief, especially within the retro sci-fi context of Fallout. It's harder to convince anyone who has ever seen wet cutlery that a flame sword is reasonable.
I disagree with that. It's not about suspension of disbelief, it's about the simple fact that rippers (chainsaws), super sledges (kinetic hammers), and power fists (improved knuckles) fit the futuristic PA world and swords, flaming or not, don't. They are not being produced or used today and it's not the type of weapon that most likely will be fashioned for protection in a modern PA world.

Well, yes there's that too, but that argument is always going to be met with "how can u say high fantasy cliches don't belong in post-apoc sci-fi? thats just you're opinion!" I'm coming at it from a "retarded whichever way you look at it" angle.

I'm waiting for the "stimduck" where you combine a stimpack and one of those drinking bird toys to give yourself regenerating health. But at least that would have charm to its retardation and isn't just a shining example of how woefully inequipped Bethesda are when it comes to doing anything but regurgitating genre cliches.

They were also intentional 40K ripoffs. The hammer, power fist and ripper/chainsword all have fairly iconic 40K analogs, I assume to go along with the whole power armor concept. Stupid, though.
And yet they're part of Fallout. Would you criticize Fallout? Deny it? You are Fallout's bitch. Bend over, faggot.
