Also, for most this is obvious, but for the slow learners on the rpgcodex short bus: the rules HHR posted and laughed about were specifically on the political forum (and even more specifically, in response to a sustained campaign of trolling, something rpgcodex habitues are familiar with, I gather). Surprisingly, there are other things talked about here, like games.

Wait, it's THAT Lum? Hahahaha

It's okay, Scott, we weren't big fans of SotA here anyway.

Frequently referring to someone with pronouns of a gender that don't identify as isn't "as open-minded as you can get."
This forum is open minded(tough not as much as i would like to be). Can't say the same for me tough.

Ahhh. No wonder he sounds like such a dick, being a minion of the King of Dicks.

Which one of you is "Matias_Koskinen"? I thought it was one of them making a parody account since someone already did that to lampoon me in the beginning of that thread, but alluding to there being a few transsexuals on the Codex and hating PST I'm thinking it's someone from here. This nickname is Finn, so it looks like something only a Finn would know about.

I'm just glad to see the people at BrokenForum putting the old canard to rest about LGBTs having no sense of humor outside of ridicule and sarcasm and being completely intolerant towards any form of contradiction. They are well adjusted people who simply respond with apoplectic hysteria whenever anybody says anything less than complementary. Otherwise, just like you and me.

They would love to insult all things normal over there and insult religious faith, all human tradition, the family and anything stable for more than ten seconds in the name of all that is "good." (Right because they are so ALTRUISTIC, YOU SEE, not just lacking impulse control) Suddenly intolerance emerges when tolerance of differing viewpoints is required. Freedom of speech for me, not for thee. Freedom of speech is useful except where others exercise it in any interest other than my own.

What they don't realize is that RPGCodex is possibly the most tolerant web site on the entire internet. We had a pre-op tranny come in and post photos from his porn shoot and people not only laughed good-naturedly at all his antics, people came to respect that poster as a regular who most people are willing to read on many other subjects. This is possibly as openminded as you could possibly get. Many different viewpoints are presented on the 'dex and I have yet to see anybody banned for anything other than being destructive of the board itself. I would say RPGCodex upholds the very highest ideals of freedom of speech, whereas BrokenForum is just another Nazi concernfag regime that permits anyone to write whatsoever they want as long as they do not offend the inch wide narrow politics of the mods.

P.S. And while I approve of nothing ScottishMartialArts has done with his life and pray he gets better sense every day, I might just jump in front of a bullet for that lunatic cross dresser if I was in a good mood. I wonder if the shrieking moral vanguard at BrokenForum would do same. SMA, somewhere under all that craziness there is a good person trying to get out.

Cleve nails it. It's funny that these guys try so hard to show how tolerant they are, yet they spent all their time aggressively spewing vitriol toward anyone who doesn't share their extreme stance. They threw me insults and one-liners for pages upon pages upon pages while I calmly replied to their arguments every time, and then this Lum guy says I "insult the whole community due to my disgust" and "do nothing but spam". I find the contradiction really a complete riot.

Fantastically detailed overcomplicated... sure.

Sorry but I don't think it's enough to keep his "old-school cred".

Wizardry VI's combat rules went on for dozens of pages, and Grimoire is even more detailed than that. Shrouds is not going to be all that different from WoW.

noted about the giant. sometimes I just have faith that the designer has a weapon in mind for said giant fighter, a treetrunk with its name carved on it -- the same with Tree 3 when I chose the Shogun upgrade class, I knew that I would eventually find a katana after listening to the dev's laughter for a few levels.

Yes, R, I know some people really like to read the manual, page by page. This is especially true with some of my boardgaming friends who have to recite every rule before starting. However, inasmuch as we have to run the simulation for a boardgame and the computer runs it for us for a CRPG, I can see the need for one more than other. Even that said, my first few boardgame plays are always experimental and whimsical.

As for viable parties...I've been playing CRPGs since my time with Wizardry in the back of my 7th grade social studies class. If I don't know by now what makes a viable party, will I ever?

Re: sexual politics. Yep, I graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz, home of "four legs good, two legs bad" dogma. I remember that when I took Intro to Feminism, I was not allowed to participate in the Body Image discussion section. I had a fun time parodying the Handmaid's Tale anyhow.

Lum had to create a special "crazies" forum to corral all the trannies and whatnot into a special place. Coz ya know, they are just like everyone else and don't need a special place...oh...wait..

you are a beautiful person and you have a right to be here. This is a private invite-only discussion forum for GLBTQ and other issues. Please sign up here: http://brokenforum.com/index.php?account/join-user-groups or contact the moderator, Neopythia.

Where's my "you are a beautiful person and you have a right to be here. oppressed white hetero sexual forum and other MANLY things".

Buncha fuckin banned rejects from another lame forum where the Mod once said you can't say a girl is "hot" because it's degrading. DA FUQ?

The core members of the 'Broken Forums' are refugees from Quarter to Three. They were banned for harassing newcomers, shitposting and generally being massive, cocksucking trolls. Scott Jennings decided to build a forum around these banned members, partly because his previous attempt at building a forum failed and partly because he's incredibly retarded. The result is a forum where the members will gang up on you, rip you to pieces and force you out if you don't share their views (the sort of behaviour which saw them banned from Qt3.) If you don't leave (which you probably should, the forum just isn't worth hanging around,) Scott will happily ban you (because he's a cock.)

If you want some light entertainment, you can read more about it here:

Yes, I had read this. That's when I had ultimate confirmation for all my suspicions. Sad because there are some kind people, but dealing with unending hostility for no reason is not worth it, not like I have time anyway to regularly post at more than one forum. And I'll always pick the forum of true bros. Being honest about who you are, not even out of arrogance but out of humility, just makes a gigantic bullseye out of you.

It's doubly funny when they have oppression olympics infighting and cannibalize one another because there is no one left to harass.

How the hell is Shroud of the Avatar "oldschool"? Its being designed as an ARPG/MMO hybrid and the Kickstarter included pay-to-win tiers. :retarded:

If I were interested in a game, it wouldn't harm my enthusiasm if I were to learn there's a douche working on it. But I have zero interest in this game due to what it is.

Good thing about the Codex is that, while there's conformity police around like everywhere, the mods/admins have never turned it into a echo chamber unlike certain broken places.

in the Crowl store, I sell 1 True Seeing potion for 2k and a stack of 3 of the same for 2k.

nothing happens when I attempt to assay an item within the store interface.

prefer the modern approach of having monster dropping parts rather than coins. or, better yet, don't have the bugs drop any loot (unless they're busily decomposing an adventurer's corpse found through searching).

I'm really at a loss at what to say to the NPCs when they first appear. The Ultima games always had some clues or default words like "job" or "name."

So is Grimoire even remotely closer to actually getting released (lol grimoire getting released oh man)?

Also while I do also find nearly two-decade vapourware hilarious, I gotta say the Broken Forum chaps seem to be working themselves up over nothing. I wasn't even aware of this drama until someone brought it up in the shoutbox, which just goes to show what a small segment of the site the Cleve cult makes up (though the BF fellows seem to think the average user here sees Cleve as much more than an oft-entertaining meme factory).

Stuff like this:
Huh. It's almost as if the roster of major contributing members at Broken Forum didn't include (non-comprehensive list follows) males, females, trans* individuals, agender individuals, heterosexuals, homosexuals, asexuals, fathers, mothers, practicing Christians, Jews, Muslims, and atheists, Americans of all subtypes, Canadians, Brazilians, Swedes, Israelis, Chinese, high schoolers, college students, graduate students, teachers, lawyers, software and game developers, scientists, housewives, stay-at-home dads, public relations professionals, contractors, marketers, journalists, slackers, mentally healthy people, depressives, autistics, obsessive-compulsive disorderers, schizosomethings, Stardock employees, and even furries, all of whom mostly get along. Weird.
Is funny to me, since I can think of examples of every single one of those groups here on the Codex. WE'RE NOT SO DIFFERENT, YOU AND I.
(Except for the way every post there seems to get at least 5 'likes'. Seriously it's like a highschool girl's FB profile picture album.)

Edit: Oh fuck no I take back what I said about not so different. They insulted brofisting?! Frankly I'm disappointed that they are so rude about a very personal fisting between two consenting bros done in the privacy of their own forum. Don't knock it 'til you've tried it and all that.

Edit 2: Ok, who the fuck was it from here that stole my precious Matias_Koskinen alias dear friend Matias Koskinen's name to troll them? I hope you realise that you're doing irreparable harm to the reputation of that young Finnish warrior-poet by associating him with vapourware and mediocre trolling. I never thought I'd be the victim of trolldentity theft.

Dunno. Maybe people are just excited to find that people somewhere else have a strong opinion about Grimoire.

Why is anybody concerned about some useless SJW forum to begin with? I am genuinely puzzled.

Why have such a high encounter rate with Mord in Crowl? I don't know what to say to him anyway.

The constant No Penetration result against squishy earwigs is starting to become a drag. Am I not long enough?

I've mapped Crowl and I still haven't found a sizable dungeon. Is there one in the gardens beyond? Am I doing something wrong?

I wouldn't mind a two-screen approach like the Tree games where I can see the map and the view. Instead, I just have to click on the map every four or five seconds because of my pisspoor memory.
