The ESO devs are a lot more inept than the GW2 devs. In their recent patch they broke an entire questing zone by making all the NPCs unable to move, meaning that faction's players can't continue the main story. I wish I was joking. They at least fix their bugs though. They're releasing a hotfix tomorrow and it's probably going to be several GBs to download because they cannot into patching either.

There are some bugs in GW2 that I reported 2 years ago and they still haven't been addressed. An example is a specific main story quest where you have to escort Trahearne and rescue some asura research teams. It's one of the longest main story quests and it contains the most bugs. Research teams just don't follow you for no apparent reason, if Trahearne dies he disappears, rendering the mission unfinishable and forcing you to restart. I lost about 30 minutes of progress because Trahearne died right near the end. It's ridiculous. You can find people reporting these bugs since shortly after release.
Both are inept. But the ESO devs are rolling more 20 sided dice... with a lot more of those dice ending up on a 1.

If not that, I am sure Vaarna_Aarne wouldn't mind playing with you in Neverwinter or Star Trek Online.

Sure if you are INSANE that is ... are you insane?

Avoid Cryptic games, I mean it.

I havent played any of their games for more than an hour. But some people here seem to like them. So I gave them the benefit of doubt.

Maybe their games are shit afterall.

I didn't look in the MMORPG subforum for months if not years. I didn't know I had a 100+ page thread on the codex. Well, better this than a sticky in retardo I guess.:M

I've had that story instance crash my game several times but I didn't even know it was possible for Trahearne to die and disappear there. My favorite "since release" bugs are the event lines that always tend to get stuck, like the devourer queen in Iron Marches to which, in a moment of brilliance, they decided to associate with a trait unlock requirement.

Also, Charr footprints:
I have a little information on this: Footprints are determined by the geometry of leg joints. That is, the direction of a footprint is determined by the joints of a particular creature’s legs and ankles. For all the races except Charr, those bones bend in the same direction of that of a human, they each have the same “ankle roll.” But if you look at images of the Charr, the ankle roll is different. And it’s the way the leg is configured that results in the footprints being backwards for the Charr. Or, as an artist said, “Once the Ankle goes over the ball of the foot, as it does with the Charr, the footprints get reversed because the (game) engine thinks the foot is pointing the opposite direction.”

Making an adjustment requires the involvement of the Gameplay Programming Team. From what I understand, making this change could require a significant amount of time but I’ll see what we can find out about this.

Appearantly Arenanet thinks that their glorified content update is worth 50 dollars, 75 if you want an additional character slot for that new class.

http://buy.guildwars2.com/store/gw2/en_US/html/pbPage.heartofthorns

I can see it being 45€ considering it also includes the base game, but there has to be some kind of straight up upgrade for people who already own GW2. And no extra character slot unless you fork out 75€ for deluxe edition or however much character slot costs in gems these days? Yeah, not happening.

Do you need an extra character slot? It's not like the classes are that much different.
Shadowy type melee (rogue)
Tanky/damage melee (warrior guardian)
Ranged with pet (necro and ranger)
Ranged damage (mesmer ele engi)
4 slots tops you have one more by default and can buy character slots grinding and converting to gems
Have I missed anything?

The fact that anyone still playing GW2 is not a learning being capable of logical thought?

Well I was posting on the codex for codexers not for the masses. The fact that people keep the game alive and are willing to pay 75 € for a glorified character slot is orbiting my awareness but I'm consciously ignoring it.
It's way less painful this way.

Yes but you are getting 4000 gems, that's a $50 value.

I actually physically gagged while saying those words inside my head.

Thats the 100 dollar edition that gives you 50 dollars worth of gems, that costs 50 dollars more.

But I guess this is what Arenanet meant by innovation. Remove things that people take for granted in mmorpgs (character slots on expansions that add a new class, endgame, game modes for PvP, actual content updates).

SUCH INNOVASHUN!

I'm still not sure HOW they managed to convince anyone they were doing anything new.
The same way their shitty wording managed to get people to buy the vanilla game while waiting for the expansion pack.

Here is something from the FAQ, before and after they were called out on it.

I was talking about the vanilla game tho. I mean, their hype was not very good at obfuscating the fact they're just relabeling existing concepts and pretending they are new, and in case of "no MMO combat has never had active movement before" just lying through their teeth.

Also, that second answer there is very confused.

They were just surfing a tidal wave of hype that was impossible to stop.

I was working on The Secret World at the time, and trying to get journalists to pay any attention to our game at all was... very difficult. I especially remember when GW2 announced their fantastic "overflow servers" where you got to play in an instance of your server until you could be added properly. In TSW we had server tech that meant we would never ever have queues and when we contacted the press people who were fapping about the "overflow servers" from GW2 we were told "It's not really about the tech"

I know you were. All, I am saying is, Neo-Arenanet have some excellent spindoctors and PRopaganda. Capable of spinning bad news into good news and then have their fans lap it all up. They are excellent liars, being able to to tell so many lies with a straight face like they did in that manifesto of theirs.

If you can lure people into irrational lies, you can trapped in delusion too. The fact that a lot of arenadrones' previous mmorpg experience is mostly restricted to terrible f2p games doesn't help matters either.

I don't think they're that good at their jobs. I mean, most of what they say looks, sounds, and acts like bullshit. I think the real problem is that SOMEHOW this works on their fandom without fail...

How in the fuck is this game still going on?

Not to suggest anything untoward, but GW2 did suck up to SJW ideals quite a bit, and certain press figures are known for "helping" games that they consider "progressive".

The success of GW2's marketing is truly a mystery to me.

Don't recall any such suck-ups myself.
A lot of it came around during the living derp stuff but...
  • Sylvari, a race full of bisexuals, with most of its key members being in lesbian pairs.
  • Marjory and her girlfriend are a lesbian pair.
  • The crippled Asura, has been accused of being SJW pandering.
  • They also censored the Canthan culture because they deemed it to offensive to asians.
Regarding the factions, this quote from BioWare Social Network (of all places) summed it up pretty well

A good example is the game Guild Wars 2. An MMORPG, and one with very shoddy lore, made to appeal to everyone and made wayyyyy too fluffy and light hearted for my tastes. As a *roleplayer* it is so unrealistic to roleplay in. Only villains are racists.Only villains see genders as anything but equal with different parts. Only villains do this or that. Every race and culture is made to be effectively "white knightish."

It doesn't matter if they don't deceive more intelligent people. All that matters (to them) is that they successfully conned their target audience. The fact that they managed to trick them into believing something so blatantly false is even more astounding, just have to give them credit where its due.

Its like with the New Age bullshit. They wont trick people with any resemblance of intellect, but they still managed to attract quite the crowd of retards.

I'm not sure any who aren't completely retarded play GW2 because of what Arenanet say or ever said. Anyone who played for even the shortest time knows Arenanet 2.0 are full of shit and couldn't organise a piss-up at a urinal. So how does the game survive? Same as most MMOs: peeps like playing dress-up with their high-level virtual characters.
