I mean, what did you expect? Honesty, standards and an objectively as possible assessment of a product's quality? From game journos?
Well then

IGN Japan:
The Last of Us Part II tries too hard to differentiate itself from its predecessor. While astonishing cityscapes and more varied combat options are great evolutions, Part II lacks the poetic serenity that made the original road-movie-like epic such a masterpiece. On top of that, uninteresting new characters burden the story, making Ellie's journey feel conventional and not nearly as captivating as the original.
Based on what we've seen so far, I was thinking this is what my experience is going to be. We'll find out soon enough.

Who would have thought - shitty, unlikable writers write shitty, unlikable characters.
It's like that thing AwesomeButton talked about. Also present in other games featuring "diverse writing team" - Deadfire, Outer Worlds...

Movies also dialed up the cruelty they show - it seems to be a "natural" development. I watched an older crime movie the other day and they didn't even show the murder victim. Just 20 years later you would have gotten a close-up of the smashed skull and a pathologist smoking and making jokes next to the naked body.

This is pretty bullshit. I mean, there was a ramp up from the 60s through to the mid-90s, sure. However movies today tend to be a LOT more bloodless, because of the dominance of the PG-13 rating. There's a ton of action in today's movies, but very little blood. Even PG movies from the 70s and 80s tend to have more blood than today's PG-13 stuff.

agree

raiders of the lost ark and temple of doom come immediately to mind
