The best pairing in these games is Olivier and Schera.

or Olivier and Muller :smug:

I'm currently in Chapter 5 of SC, and have been digging the game thus far, most notably because I've been able to use my boy Olivier for far longer than in FC and i dug my waifu Amalthea's role in this(who I strangely dug the most out of the supporting characters of FC).

(And man, I missed out on a lot of discussion here over the past week.)

Olivier is just one of the most fun characters in these games and really a bit OP :P

Fun + OP means I enjoy having Olivier in the group every time I can. Joshua is OP as well, but completely boring but I can't kick him from the group. I totally would though, if I could.

I'd buy a game with Olivier as the protagonist. Screw those emo incest brats, this guy is going places!

Olivier is the main character of FC and SC as far as I'm concerned(despite how I like Estelle and even Josh), and a game starring him with Schera would be splendid.

Having more Olivier is one of the main reasons why I want 3rd localized and look forward to his appearance in CS(although not as a companion sadly).

I'm only on chapter 3 of the first game, but oh my god I am so, so, so fucking disappointed with the fucking creepy sibling fucking bullshit. In a world with mostly believable character interaction, why, for the love of the fucking holy father afucking above, why is everyone in this world so down with sibling fucking? It's complete nonsense, and the worst case of explicit pandering in an otherwise normal thing I've ever seen. The academy part of chapter 2 was complete and utter torture.

You know what fucking happens in the real world when you tease two people about being in a relationship and then immediately find out that they're actually siblings, blood-related or otherwise? You make an awkward apology and never bring it up again, because fuck. But I guess in creepy fat-ass weeb lala land you actually double the fuck down on that shit, because that's totally normal.

I'm pretty sure there have been times when this bullshit came up and Estelle just said they're family, not even mentioning the adopted part (like it really makes a fucking difference, but I digress) and the character they're talking to just bulldozes over it and goes "yeah, but why aren't you fucking, though?"

It sucks. It sucks so goddamn hard. This was the most deeply impressed I've been with a JRPG in a long while, and then this shit starts happening and now my enthusiasm for it has completely deflated and I don't even know if I want to finish it now. Utterly depressing.

This is a funny game psychologically because it's so dissonant.

  1. Main protagonist is a girl.
  2. Which is hung up on a typical shonen 'hero' (her adopted brother) which isn't in the game until later.
  3. People are more shocked about misunderstandings of a yuri nature than incest.
  4. People in general are for and supportive of incest.
  5. Bechdel test breaking all over the place with most conversations of a 1-to-1 female nature being about Joshua. The most strange example being 'i liked him too and it seems he likes you more but i'm not giving up and we're still friends. I don't mind harems, we should try it sometime'.
  6. So this is a game that in its funny pandering is actually destroying the main character ego, which is in direct opposition to the normal M.O. just because it switched sexes viewpoint but kept the ego stroking to the boy so it feels freshly alien instead of anime standard.
If this actually was a subversion instead of the pandering shit it is i might even praise it. Might, but probably not.

Disregarding that, it's one of the most charming jrpg gameworlds in a while :negative:

There's definitely something to be said about the fact that the obvious self-insertion male character isn't actually the protagonist. I mean, I'm only three chapters into the first game and I'm certainly getting a lot of the same vibes that you outline. I remember thinking, for example, Estelle being uncomfortable with Joshua getting kissed in the play was a subtle way of playing with the player's ego, while still making sense within the framework of their established relationship as adoptive siblings.

But then that's undermined by the "LOL I BET YOU GUYS FUCK A LOT YOU'RE SUPER CUTE AS A COUPLE YOU SHOULD TOTALLY GET TOGETHER" type reaction that other characters have to their relationship, and in light of that, you're forced to perceive that moment in a completely different way. Looking back, It goes from a genuine character struggle with conflicting emotions to, "yeah she totally wanted that brother dick all along."

It feels like perhaps some of the writers had a certain angle going, but someone higher up misconstrued it and ended up pushing it much harder for some of that valuable pandering capital. As it stands, a lot of that stuffs seems really out of place, to the degree that I don't think it was a part of the original narrative that was first drawn up. It definitely doesn't feel organic at all.

It gets real bad in the second game because near the end of FC she decides 'i actually want this' and it's official incestu. Like, the little faggot isn't even in the first part of SC and he overshadows about all first time conversations with NPCs from the first game ('where is joshua? you were so cute' blah blah). Not to mention with the party members and Estelle being super emo, and making Kloe super-emo rival in love that can't be.

The game itself is really cool and the dialog is great when it doesn't touch on romance but fuck, i wish it was rewritten to be less retarded. (Of course i stopped playing SC before the naruto shit complained about got real bad).

I refuse to believe the writers actually wanted this incest shit on their work. Or possibly romance at all.
Maybe the decision to have Estelle be the protagonist (i have the feeling Joshua was the MC at some point) nudged their boss to make them add a romantic interest cause stereotypical japan sexism. Then they went full retard with Joshua cause less work than rewrite story and theme reinforcement (for weebs). I want to believe *x-files tune*

Or maybe it was already there in the Joshua original harem-shit concept where it was kept nebulous cause multiple waifus and they ran with it after the switch cause female==romance focus.
:negative:

weeeeew, that's enough ranting about this subject. This series will never darken my monitor again.

So, SC has only sold around 10,000 copies on Steam according to Steamspy: http://steamspy.com/app/251290

I know that sequels always sell worse (just look at FF XIII-2 compared to XIII), but man, this is disappointing. I was hoping they'd translate TC as well, but now it doesn't look likely at all.

Sales aren't bad considering that 10-20k is the audience and not random people buying cause of a sale or cause there were no major games in that period of time.(summer is the perfect time for a jrpg steam release)
The 100k+ from first chapter were not the intended audience,so no surprise they don't want to buy a sequel requiring to play the original to understand anything.
And of course there is the stupidity of releasing so close to fallout 4 and constant delays, summer 2015 would have been perfect.

Please don't forget that the game is also sold on GOG http://af.gog.com/game/legend_of_heroes_trails_in_the_sky_sc_the?as=1649904300, i've :d1p: it from from there. Did XSEED relased sale numbers from both distribution platforms?

I don't think they did, no. Still, I don't think GOG accounts for more than 10-20% of sales.

Anyway, I can only hope it sells well enough in the next few months for them to consider bringing TC over as well.

They had no intention to bring TC, good sales or not. They want to catch up a little with the japanese releases, by bringing us Trails of Cold Steel.

PS: sorry for the potentialy shitty english.

It's no laughing matter, but the guy who translated the SC almost committed suicide while translating it. Coincidence... or was the incestu emo bullshit enough to push a man to the brink?

He hangs out on SJW-infested forums and banned people in his own forums for using the most evil word in the dictionary - "Loli"

So I'll let you decide for yourself.

I don't think many people knew about FC and are only just finding out about the game. I know I am one of those people. FC was on my Steam wish list for a long time but I only bought it because of the Kotaku article about SC (a rare example of fine journalism from them). As soon as I finish FC, I'll buy SC.

I think some of the marketing is a little misplaced, especially the GOG banners which make it look like a visual novel when really it is more like Final Fantasy.

Sadly EU version will be published by NISA and i don't want to give my money to them. I sincerely hope that XSEED is jewing out NISA as much as possible on the EU distribution rights contract. Personally i'll just import the NA version or get it from NA PSN, the question is which version PS3 or PS Vita/PS TV?

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is. Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
I pre-ordered the NA version instead of the EU version and went with Vita. Performance is supposed to be better on PS3 but I want to play it on a handheld device.
