Never played MM1&2, but I heard there are not really good. MM3 (Amiga version) was not bad, but I was too young for HC dungeon and now I just don't have time for it. Never played World of Xeen and I want to change it in a short time! MM6 is really good, but I was very frustrated by those huge megadungeons. Still have bad dreams about Tomb of VARN. For me, best MM is MM7. Ballancen difficulty, good/evil quests, nice portraits... MM8 was incredibly easy (even without dragons in party) and MM9 is... just weird.

Hey, I just heard they are not worth of playing! If you have other info, please share it.

Playing M&M1 right now. Good world, very difficult combats for low-level parties, good dungeons (I raped in the most of them :) ) The only minor drawback - you need to map by hand. M&M2 is the awesome game, on par with M&M6. You should try it.

Thanks! Is MM2 also without automap? This is the biggest problem for me, because I am able to get lost on the way to work :) Invention of GPS was real blessing for me :D

I could not play even Eye of the Beholder 1+2 before that fan-made version with automap from Lands of Lore.

You may buy automap skill for the measly sum in the first city. And afair sorcerers starts with it. (may confuse it with M&M3).
Interesting thing of M&M2 was what you have only two skill slots for each character. You must think carefully before picking another one. Skills may be reseted in Vulcania or Atlantium, can't remember.

There's a fan made patch that adds automap??

Of course. Better graphics and automap. But only Amiga version:

If you are not in the Amiga stuff, try this:
http://hobring.esero.net/games.htm
There is quick guide on top and games in alphabetical order.

Looks like I'll be playing the Amiga version then once I get forever amiga working. Thanks.

I can't into no automap. I'll make an exception for Wizardry 6 and maybe MM1 because I really want to play it but thatsit. I'm too damn slow at drawing the things.

You don't really need to. Just try to use those pre-packed versions. Firstly install HWA PACKAGE into default folder and then desired game (also into default folder) and you can play. It's pretty simple and efficient way to play Amiga games. There is also Black Crypt, Ambermoon and good version of Evil's Doom.

I found bug with experience overflow in the PC version of M&M1. You should be careful when getting reward for lord's quests. If your current experience less or equal than 65535 and sum of your experience and lord's reward more than 65535 - things get nasty. Loss of the 65k exp is the pretty brutal.

No love for the series past #7, which is not much of a surprise. Another non-surprise is that no votes have been made for the fan-made Swords of Xeen.

I remember things what I loved in the M&M2. The Fly spell, fucking proper fireball what useful only on enemy's back row, constant feeling of dread: "can I survive anothe battle or should flee to inn?" Plus M&M1 with its low attribute scores and absence encounters with 32767 goblins have more serious tone.

I can't finish crazed wizard test in the cave around Sorpigal. I found 10 fixed monster groups and 3 respawning, but wizard still denying me.

Also fuck cursed Large Shield +2. This is just cruel to shatter my dreams.

And Levitate is beatiful. The message "saved by levitation!" strangely more satisfactory than opened under your feets pits in the Temple of Moo.

MM1 already had all of these :rpgcodex:

These, among a plethora of other things MM2 didn't do as well (world-building, quests, overall feeling of plot), are why I consider MM1 to be vastly superior.

There are 13 fixed encounters in the cave. You're still missing 3. The respawning ones don't/must not be fought, use Jump to clear them.

Also fuck cursed Large Shield +2. This is just cruel to shatter my dreams.

Of course. I wrote about things what both M&M1 and M&M2 shared.
Pity what it was removed later.

Thanks, should try it now.

Wyverns is so awesome source of experience.

MM1 did not have all that, fireball could not be used on enemies in melee range.

MM2 was a far superior game, the best in the series.

Oooooh the memories

I ended up giving in to pressure for Underworld & added a save anywhere but saving in the inn still works, allowing to choose not to use it but the temptation is always there. I also included jump & levitate, but left out teleport. Might add that to the sequel.

Fireball CAN be used on enemies in melee range. But your asses will be roasted too.

Is the MM2 SNES version any good - are there any general comments about it as a port?

I was thinking I'd mix up my DS time with this. Seems to run fine on the DS.

(I'm just mad I can't get that translated snes Wiz 6 working)
