big sites like IGN actually appear to have joined the "Doom sucks because it isn't Quake" bandwagon.
Definitely not.
IGN knowing what's Quake is far from possible scenario.

PS. I'm not a fan of Doom and Quake (though I enjoyed them some time ago in first playthrough for each title) I consider the game bad. So bad that watching videos make give me nausea, just like Fallout4.
Why stop criticism? Because there is a lot of money invested?

My team has the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit.
When did Quake come in the equation?
I thought the usual excuse by casuals and journalists in the situation of a reboot getting shat on by the original fans is that the original fans are just nostalgiafags who hate change.
If anything, I expected Halofags to complain. I can see the similarities between Quack and nuDoom, but it's not Quake's name being dragged through the mud.

'Tis journos and Beth's marketing department that started with Quake comparisons, followed by players whose experience of Quake ended with few hours of QL (and I am being optimistic here) - one needn't repeat some of those inane comments that graced every single official gameplay video. Everyone with half a brain could see their MP for what it really is. Now that the beta is out, and now that even their target audience is displeased, even their journo puppets are trying to backpedal on their earlier Quake comparisons, if ever so slightly.

Also, Doomworld's Doom '16 section is best avoided right now. It's infested with shills and with that special kind of Doom/id faithful that needs this game to be successful simply because of that Doom logo and that id logo in the name of company that made it - think old Eidos forums prior to Thiaf's release.

It is embarrassing how bad this game is. From the Mickey Mouse visuals, the atrocious sound effects and design, and complete shit on the Doom name...

I know Bethesda and id are way beyond shadows of what they used to be, but this is a travesty. The entire game looks, sounds and feels like baby's first Unreal Engine mod/game.

Smart move making the 'beta' (the game comes out in a month, we know that the game is already gold and gone to manufacturing...) a separate steam entry. That way all the negative reviews can easily be tossed out for the full release.

It's good but "Honoring the Legacy of Doom" can't be beat IMO.

This fitting piece of art was all over the "Doom" forums and reviews yesterday, sadly fake id managed to nuke it out of existence overnight

There is still a month before release. Id can sure make some changes in lobby worlflow and remove the weapon loadouts. I think this will be player's preference how he wants to go in the arena.

Doom divides gamers in open beta free trial
_89255587_89255586.jpg

The studio behind classic shooter game Doom is inviting players to test the new version for free from 15 to 17 April.

"Simply download the beta and let the viscera fly," said Bethesda.

While many players expressed their delight on social media some complained that the new version felt slow and others took to the studio's message boards after facing server problems.

So far, 41% of 1,744 reviews on the Steam platform have been positive.

The BBC has contacted Bethesda for comment.

Doom was first released in 1993 and had 10 million players by 1995.

Software engineer and games developer Gary Riches told the BBC he grew up playing the original Doom games - and completed Doom 2 again just six months ago.

After trying out Doom 4 this morning, he said he felt the pace was much slower than its predecessors due to changes such as a single close-range shot no longer taking out an enemy, and the lack of weapons "hotspots" where weapons were created in the older games.

"I still like Doom 4 but it doesn't feel like Doom 4, it feels like a sequel to Quake or Unreal Tournament," he said.

"To me that's disappointing.

"It's still cool, it looks nice but it has lost what makes it Doom."

So they delete in 2012 'Doom' Call of Duty clone only to bring Halo copycat after years, worst trolling ever.

Still hope it's better than mediocre 'survival horror' Doom 3.

Why do people say that if we hate the game we are Quake fanboy ? Last Quake I played was Quake 2, and the new Doom just sucks ass. Quake 2 was more Doom than this Doom is.

Believing this trainwreck of a game has any chance in hell (hohoho) to even be mediocre, let alone better than that, is charmingly naive, I guess.

Ehm.. so Doom 3 is a quality gaem now?
I don't think I've ever mentioned that, just my belief that WooD is not going to be able to clear even a hurdle that low.
