A small gathering of Australian media and influencers were given a 90 minute hands on with The Outer Worlds earlier this week, broken into two segments. The first 15 minutes showed off the opening of the game, including the wonderful character creation process, although a representative from Obsidian asked attendees not to spoil those bits so everyone could enjoy it fresh when the game launches across PC and consoles on October 25.

Sis, don’t tell me we don’t get to see the character creator until the game releases! Ugh so much for what Mikey said on discord...

Aha, if the gun was pointing up I might have seen it.

It always seemed weird to me that police holding small revolvers a bit above hip level in period detective movies, my mind went to that.

Also here's an interview with Matthew Singh from TGS: https://www.gamereactor.eu/outer-worlds-has-that-choice-and-consequences-that-were-known-for/

Outer Worlds has "that choice and consequences that we're known for"
Senior producer Matthew Singh talked to us at TGS about the game, including the choices regarding how you can develop your character.

The Outer Worlds is the latest RPG from Obsidian Entertainment that's coming next month, and at TGS this year we talked with senior producer Matthew Singh about the game, and what they're doing to put their Obsidian signature mark on it.

"Through and through we've tried to bring that choice and consequence that we're known for, that reactivity in the world, and we are also kind of giving it a new flair," he explained.

"When you create your character, you have attributes that you can allocate, and one of those options is you can take low intelligence or, even with our new flaw system in place, you may take a few hits to the head and be offered a permanent concussion. If you take that, it does something kind of similar, where you start exposing yourself to dumb options within conversations [...] even your companions and people will react to you like 'what did he just say? I don't understand'."

You can check out the full video below, which also talks about the various locations we'll be visiting in The Outer Worlds.

Are you ready to head in?

Hey everyone,
I'm the owner and editor of PowerUp! and I was one of the Aussies who played this week.
They asked us not to say anything about the intro, character creator etc because they don't want it spoiled.
Not sure if they'll reveal it before launch, but sounds like they won't

Glad you liked it. Hopefully it can give people some idea of what they're going to build

Not going to lie, it looks so unique that I'd actually like to see if it's more towards the "bent fork" meme or something with some actual novelty behind it.

Well this is early build than the what we saw from TGS..
The TGS build has much better sounds for weapons , actually have background music and even some facial animations seems better. I think the game looks fine for a AA game.

From all the vids so far Monarch doesn't seem appealing to me but Edgewater looks so god damn good, cozy and shit.

What I've seen of the systems looks pretty goofy, random and Fallout 4-ish, it's probably worth one playthrough for the experience of it, but I doubt you'll squeeze many builds or playstyles out of this one, there's a lot of hand holding and many of the perks and skill cap bonuses seem to be just totally random % bonuses to random properties that proc randomly.

The perks are a downgrade from FNV , no cannibal, sex/gender related perks neither shit like snerring imperialist or terrifying pressence (no perk related checks)the other hand skill system is way better and some of the perks were merge into bonuses ( like sneak speed from lonesome road or hacking robots) and now speech is separated , imo better that way.. Also allow more flexiabilty , you can invest on a skill until 50 points , see if that what you want then speend until 100 if you're sure and make sense that if your good at overall guns, you know one thing or two, ex, about Big guns even if you spec on Handguns instead.

% seems a bit too much tho , but its way better than anything from FO4 and FO3 imo, not a high bar, i know..

This looks pretty much the same comparing to the preview we see before, and people have been screaming "it looks like shit" just like before.

Graphic obsession is everywhere, even here on Codex. They probably complain F:NV looks like shit as well, and probaly think Witcher 3 is the greatest RPG ever made.

The irony here is that NV really does look like shit and Witcher 3 is at least on par with the greatest RPGs ever made, but you're somehow using it as a sting at people's taste.
