The open world in sims 3 was really cool. I had one sim who was a bum and didn't own a house, just an empty home lot. Instead he lived in a tent in the park, using public toilets and mooching off picnic baskets for food. Occasionally he would camp out in people's gardens. Good fun. Doesn't sound like that will be possible in sims 4.

On the other hand the open world was probably the main reason why sims 3 was so glitchy and slow, especially with a lot of expansions installed. So I can understand why they decided to take it out.

This is what I wanted in Sims 4. Lots of weird, fun, interesting stuff to happen. Instead it feels like we'll burn through all the content the game has to offer in about 20 hours. By the time the game is "complete' it will probably cost us $6,000 vs. the $60 asking price.

Sims 2 was better. Think I mentioned it already but it also had 'genetics' where kids would inherit traits from the parents versus being totally random in Sims 3. All they do is pump up the graphics so they can re-milk the same idiots for the same DLC packs again.

Oh fuck, yes, the genetics. They actually kept track of things like natural hair color versus dyed, so if you changed your Sim's hair color after they were born, it'd still use the natural color for genetics.

In Sims 3 if you dye your Sim's hair green, that will get passed on.

If only The Sims 2 had the open world thing, try as I can, I just cannot get back into the game because of the lack of neighborhood aging and the loading screens.

Truly, my greatest work.

Pescado's was shit though. Great content, annoying as fuck mandatory update period though.
That hasn't been there in over a year now, ever since things stabilized and I cut down on the update rates. You have no idea how annoying it was to be constantly nagged with stuff you fixed ages ago. And in any event, it was trivially easy to disable, even marked on the file itself, by simply editing a text resource.

Sufficiently analyzed fanboy defenses of Sims 4 are indistinguishable from trolling.

"Its not a sequel, but a new series! It doesn't have to add all features from old bases."

"The world is still open! See! If you look towards the horizon you can see the rest of the world."

"Its not EA's fault that Sims 3 was laggy and crashy so they had to add loading screens back. It was simply too much innovation for this day and age."

"There are no ghosts, true, but supernatural stuff was very immersion breaking."

"I have no issues with toddlers and teens*. The core sims experience is Young Adults and Adults, so of course they focus more on those."

"So what if the overarching story* was thrown out of the window with alternate universe shit?"

*Things that sims fans probably care about.

Blog comment pages are even better, with the defense force copy pasting their own posts as responses and postings of their own.

This is what I was talking about. Sims 4 is going beyond what Sims 3 did. Its cutting stuff from the base game while not adding anything worthwhile. Sure, the progression was shit and the open world went laggy if you installed more than a half expac, but those were interesting ideas that shouldn't have been given up upon so quickly. The former is now limited to aging and the latter is out entirely. This is all so weird that even fanboys are grasping at straws. Its beautiful. I'm just waiting for the Indoctrination Theory to pop up.

By the way, there's a CAS demo avaiable which hangs on invitations and Origin accounts. Funny how this was probably meant to foster a following directly through the service, and, yet, the thing already roam the high seas.

Oh shit, you're Pescado?

Well, I guess I was just an idiot for missing that part. I take it back.

You can download Sims 4 Create a Sim Demo on Origin.
I tried it out. It ran smoothly, the interface was alright, and the body morphing was fantastic. Unfortunately the demo only lets you create young adults, and I think it doesn't have all the clothing options enabled. Either that, or in the full game there will be only one underwear style for guys, which would be unacceptable!

Also unfortunately, the rest of the game still sounds like shit.

Game's got some interesting nose physics:

Be honest here: how long will it take before the Codex starts making Jewish stereotypes?

Seeing as the dominant emergent feature of Sims 3 (Thanks to the open neighborhoods) was to walk around as a dude getting all the females in the game world pregnant, the NEW AND IMPROVED Sims 4 emergent feature could very well be creating hundreds of jewish sterotype noses.

Going back to Sims 3, but...

What happens when a pregnant sim dies? Does the grim reaper come for both parent and child? Or just the parent?

Pregnant sims cannot die in Sims 3. Try for yourself - use testingcheatenabled true and drag their hunger all the way to the bottom and they'll just remain in pain but living, unlike a non-pregnant sim.

I'd like an epidemic simulation, so I could see a disease spread across the town that slowly makes my sims resemble Nigel Thornberry more and more.

Will it make the baby stillborn?

The only way for babies to die in sims 3 is for EA's story progression to murder them when the town population reaches some arbitrary limit. And that's only NPC kids, I don't think you ever see them die but you can find dead babies looking through family trees.

The fact that a 1-man modding team can completely fix EA's broken shit is insane. I dunno how it is in Sims 3 but in Sims 2 ACR mod you could have miscarriages from things like really low hunger with a pregnant sim.

Wait, I just thought of something: Is it possible for Sims to wohoo with themselves in this game, given that wohooing is a skill?

Well, game over. Sims 4 copies will be withheld from the bloggers until after release.

Seems that some actually believe that this is because EA no longer sees value in coverage, since Sims fanbase is hardly core gamers. Bullshit, of course, because neither are the audiences of IGN, etc. Game is probably worse than we can imagine and EA is desperate to couple a part of the investment.

Strangely enough, rumours that Sims 4 was a side project (likely a mobile release) turned sequel are surfacing just like they did for Sim City 5. That hypothesis made more sense with the latter, though.
