I'll wait till they have major expansions.
But somehow having 11 expansions installed, the clusterfuck becomes quite unbearable.

Yeah, I'm loathing my sister finding out about a new Sims. Though it makes gift shopping for her easier, I suppose :P What's the 'rabbit hole career' issue ?

Rabbit Hole Careers are those where the sim just enters a building (hence 'rabbit hole') and stays there from ___ to ___ with the only interactivity being setting their work rate - 'normal', 'work hard', 'talk with co-workers' etc. This is versus some of the other careers like Ghost Hunter where you have to control the sim and actually do something.

Kind of, except you can show up 4 hours late every day and it barely has any impact on your job performance.

But don't worry though! Sims 4 will come out soon and you can have all new ways to torture your Sims using only one game!

Sure, there'll be even MORE DLC packages that will cost even more, but that's the Sims for you these days!

I hate how they practically gave up on innovating the game since Sims 2.
Shame noone is competing in this niche and they can can get away with this while shitting out $500 of dlc.

Yeah, the people simulation market is kind of barren outside of the Sims. The other markets for things like this are... uh...

Sometimes I think about torturing sims? But fuck, ELEVEN install procedures?

It's not worth it. Sometimes this game calls to me, like some sort of horrible addiction. I used to like it when I was a retarded kid, but it's so fucking terrible, probably the most cynical and lazily designed game ever. You'll be like, "Oh, I'll find creative ways to have fun!" but no, your experiment with ruining Sims lives will come to a grinding halt when you realize it takes them an hour to take a shower, thanks to pathfinding, and the game with all expansions will freeze every fifteen seconds unless you mod it.

You'll spend a whole day downloading and installing it and then you'll get bored in minutes. Don't waste bandwidth. Download something good.

Since the game "can" be fun with the right mods, I "might" give it another try if I find a way to deal with the horrible horrible lag (seriously, how can they be so incompetent?).
Maybe /vg/ has the answers. Last I checked there were some modded towns that had few pathfinding issues, and some mods that reset stuck sims. Likely keeping the expansionpacks at the minimum could help.

You'll spend a whole day downloading and installing it and then you'll get bored in minutes

But this is the most likely conclusion.

They do. I don't have the link now, but there is a mod that resets stuck sims (I think it's called NSAA Overwatch or something...) and that fixes MOST of the freezing, it does require a bit of work and clearing the game's cache. Modded town maps exist too, mostly for the ill-planned dlc maps. Building your house by the sea or on it still causes the game to commit suicide.

Then the game's boring mechanics are there for you to enjoy. Of course, I'm saying this as someone who can't build an appealing house to save my life and that's the one part the game is objectively good at.

Maybe I'll make some lame Codex meta lp for this. It's installed on my machine, might as well use it for something. Mods allow you to create...interesting sims that would reflect our userbase.

the only worthwhile expansions for sims 3 are ambitions (adds a lot of jobs), late night (adds city with apartments) and showtime (for the celebrity stuff).

Well there are plenty of All-in-one installers if you sail the high seas.

Sure do. I was making one myself, made first two chapters but got lazy/tired of Sims3. Also I cannot write funny dialogue for shit.

I liked World Adventures a lot. Gives a lot of flexibility. Bored of neighbourhood? Go travelling. Bored of managing big family? Go travelling alone. Bored of standard routine? Go dungeon raiding.
And skills are all cool too.

Too bad other people did not like it much. Meaning we will have more boring "two broken skills and a set of costumes" DLCs instead. And no extra travel locations:(

travel locations weren't viable for me because loading screens were 10 minutes long.

Not that all other loading screens are that much quicker. Ugh, maybe modders have improved those?

Why on earth would you think modders could do anything about the basic game code? Be realistic...
