I would consider buying The Sims 3 if it was available bundled with all the expansions for a reasonable price.

They won't do that because they know that if you installed them all at once, the game would be unplayable on any system. Their engine blows.

That's always the thing that confused me the most. This game is designed primarily for the casualest of the casuals, but the game just doesn't fucking run right at all if you install more than two expansions. I mean, it's marketed towards people who probably would run it on a Dell Laptop, but my computer that can run other heavily modded games with no problems can't run it without it freezing every fifteen seconds because the entire neighborhood is getting pathfinding errors, unless I download mods fixing their broken code. I mean, most cash cow series at least are technically playable out of the box.

I don't know how they pull it off.

Yeah Sims 2 and 3 run like crap on average computers AND will overheat and boil any slightly more advanced computer's GPU because Maxis hasn't mastered the arcane magic of VSync. Maybe this has changed since I tried the games at a friends place but I doubt it.

I have a fairly new (~4 month old) computer and The Sims 3 still doesn't run that well on it with all the expansions installed. It's playable, but choppy at the highest speed. Also the load times are utterly atrocious.

Oh, yeah, the load times are awful. The switch to the entire "open world" thing massively increased the amount of data that had to be on hand at any given time. I wonder how big of a mess I will have to sweep up this time.

Sims 2 runs fine. Sims 3, on the other hand, runs awful, takes forever to load.

Concessions due to the open city area contributed to that.
Remember back then you were constricted to a single household.
People outside your house do not exist at all.

Yeah and watch as you grow old into an elder while your father is stuck in his mid 40s cause you moved out.

Look, if Sims Players were given a choice between that single map game or one huge world, they'd take the latter anyway.
You can prevent the blobbing by setting the options and tweaking the town occupants in S3 anyway.

With SSD, up-to-date PC and Nraas mods I don't see any serious slowdowns in Sims3. Except maybe in vacation worlds sometimes.

Every time I think of Sims I have fond memories of building houses (guilty pleasure) and fucking people's lives (pretty amusing). But I always feel like something's lacking, now I see what: EA should hire the guy from Dwarf Fortress and spend whatever money is necessary to keep the art department on level with his creative insanity.

Imagine... a world of Sims where you wish there were therapists to heal the little guys from the horrors you inflict on them.

I like the Sims, but sometimes I just have to sit back and look at what I have wrought.

One of my latest games had the man of the house hook up with a kleptomaniac mascot chick while his ED-I lookalike robot daughter married an alien.

This series is weird.

Took them long enough to finally add search. While the interface worked well in general, finding a specific thing was a nightmare.

That'll mean that you have to remember the names of specific items. That will be fun...

That'll mean you'll have search along with standard method (looking through categories).
