The original PQ is a fun little game in which I raped the demo and wanted more. However, just before I did that I heard news of an upcoming expansion pack, so I thought I'd hold out and wait for the expansion pack to be released on the PC before buying the whole pack.

I'm sort of the same way so I understand although at this point I don't think a PQ2 expansion is likely and it only cost me $3.50. Fell into the same hole with King's Bounty. Bought The Legend to try the series a while ago, liked it, but even still I passed to the Platinum pack yesterday that had Legend, AP, and Crossworlds for $8.75 because I'd just have to eat another ungiftable copy of The Legend. I'll probably end up doing so if it's offered again in three weeks.

Today's deals in general seem pretty tepid. Mount and Blade Warband can be had for $7.50 or $5.80 if you go into a pack. BIT.TRIP for only 50% off when it was basically 90% off in that pack is laughable.

World of Goo 2 euros (easily worth it)

Orange Box 7 euros. Don't know. Never really tried Half-Life out.

HL2 is a solid game. There's a massive thread debating it on this forum but mostly denouncing the fact that some people herald it as a landmark achievement in gaming/game of the decade/whatever. It's not. It's a decent enough FPS with a few 'puzzle situations' thrown in; however, it does have a fair amount of flaws. Overall it and the two episodes that come with the Orange Box are good for around 30ish hours of game play. Portal is Portal. Great concept, woefully easy and short (although it does have additional challenge maps/timed modes that aren't part of the main story). TF2 is the wild card. If you like it, you like it, if you don't, it's pointless. I have 800+ hours logged into it but if you don't think you'd enjoy it then I wouldn't bother with the Orange Box. They have HL and HL2 sales every now and then where they'll sell it individually for next to nothing.

Thanks. I grabbed Portal when it was free for a day. Best deal ever. I'm actively looking forward to nr. 2 - it's a fucking great game! I'd take five hours of amazing gameplay over 50 hours of Modern Shitfare any day.

L4D2 finished downloading, and now Steam says "Sorry, this game is currently unavailable". Truly, a great way to treat your customers.

Meh, got work to do anyway.

Servers are overloaded -- should be okay in a couple of hours.

Got in on a Just Cause 2 bundle, and picked up the indie puzzle pack today since I wanted both Puzzle Dimension and Tidalis. Spent something like $50+ on this sale so far, and one more day of it left.

I would have gone in on a JC2 pack but I'm still stuck in the Windows XP 9500 GT Nvidia graphics card era with no real plans to upgrade for another six months to a year (at which point I'm sure it'll be on sale again). For those buying M&B don't get the pack -- Warband has everything in it that the original has, it's a standalone expansion. They're shamelessly trying to bilk people out of an additional $2.50 for no reason with the pack.

This this this. Only thing that the original M&B has over Warband is mod support, but I wouldn't say that's worth $2.50 given how much better base Warband is over all of the vanilla game mods I tried. Which admittedly wasn't all that many but still. And Warband will only get more mods over time.

A warning -- the CD Keys for the game Steam is giving out are borked/not in the proper format.

Yeah, if anything you just won't be able to play for a bit -- eventually they'll sort it out.

Warband key also works for the original so yeah... no reason whatsoever.

Hope it'll be fixed soon. I remember they ran out of CD keys for Risen a week or two ago, so hopefully it's just the same thing.

*L* Yeah. But at least, I could just use a crack for Risen.

careful with buying warband: the keys provided by steam don't work, they're 5x5 alphanumeric while warband uses 4x4, and obviously taleworlds doesn't care.
i submitted a ticket, tomorrow we'll see if they're going to do anything about it.

Did you buy just Warband or the Complete pack?

Also, submitted a ticket as well. It'll be fixed, hopefully within the next couple of days; you can play the trial fine up to that point and saves transfer, so I might just do that. I wasn't really planning on playing now, just grabbing it while it's cheap.

Holy shit, the swedes actually made a great game with Just Cause 2. Graphics are great, performance seemingly is good (The demo ran pretty assy for me, but maybe slightly better video card + newer drivers + time for them to patch game improved it quite a bit), gameplay is super great open world tarding around. I am seriously impressed thus far. Might take the cake for my favorite game out of this orgy of spending.

Oh man, Just Cause 2 is HEAVAN for some sanboxy dicking around. And the performance is amazing considering the vast world. It's a shame you can't blow more stuff up, and the story and acting are horrible, but it's still an incredibly beautiful and fun game.

I hate you for having a semi-current gaming rig while I'm in the stone age!

If you buy Just Cause 2, I recommend getting the trainer that adds the possibility to use multiple ropes and makes them unbreakable. Lulz is increased tenfold when you can tie 10 enemy soldiers to an enemy helicopter and watch it struggle to fly while they scream and cry for help. :smug:
