You guys will play a lunar lander sim (no guns) but you won't play DCS (guns and bombs and missiles, oh my!) with me? Lame.

What's the word on the Assassin's Creed series? I know the first one was dodgy as hell, but how are the latter ones? I've always enjoyed the stealth genre.

They are decidedly meh. Ok-ish if you are just looking for a game to jump off of buildings and stab a dude in the neck, and then circle around the other dudes one at a time and wait to press counter and instakill them. Definitely not a stealth series though. Play The Sabateur instead if you want to play AC. Cooler by far, more fun, similar gameplay.

Space is cooler than silly ol' airplanes. And I'm living the Starfleet dream and not engaging in any combat. :rpgcodex:
And it's dumbed down popamole lunar lander and not full monocle wearing A-10 sim.

Hm, Ass Creed titles are on sale today.
I'm a bit tempted, what's prestigious Codex' opinion on them?
First one is at 2,50, 2nd and Brotherhood at 7,50.

A friend of mine reccomended me them once, he's a bit of a history-fag sometimes and was quite impressed by the rendition of the cities in the titles.
He didn't tell much about the gameplay though...
Tried the first when it come out, and I was instantly a hater. Seriously, that's boring as hell.

Years later tried the 2, and become a fan. Really love the game mechanics and the semi-sandbox nature.
AC2 is the best imho, but I'm biased being italian (Venice and Florence were gorgeous to explore).
Brotherhood is AC2 expanded with some tricks, on the gameplay side. Revelations is just like Brotherhood in a different city (Rome -> Constantinopole).

If you want to try it I'd say to skip the first and try straight to the second.

Thanks for the info.
Does anyone know if I have to endure Ubisoft bullshit DRM with Steam version of Ass Creed 2 or just normal Steamworks?

Edit:
Found out by myself, checking the Steam forums. You have to create an Uplay account and register the game once.
However, it seems to act as a kind of launcher but you can play offline. Probably pass it, don't like the Ubisoft DRM taint on my pc, even if it's just the Uplay-launcher.
Although I would like to do some sightseeing in medieval Italy...

It is really good, you should just buy it. Still don't get the whining about DRM. Ubisoft even relented and reduced it from what it was originally like.

It's a fun action serie. First one was mediocre and very repetitive but AC2 is a vast improvement over it with a nice main character and more variety in action. As far as sequels go, it's rather impressive how they turned this out. It's not much of a stealth game though there are sections where you need to stay unseen but these are rather easy. It's not particularly deep, and some aspects are silly, but it's honest entertainment if you like free-roaming games in a city.

I've continually pondered getting AC2 just to try the series out but ultimately decided against it as I was told you basically had to play with a controller and, well, fuck that.

Assassins Creed and Anno 2070 games come with two DRMs: Steam itself and that shitty one that Ubisoft loves to use (Securom? I don't even want to know).

Avoid them like the plague :andhaira:

I played Revelations with a controller, but all the others with K+M, without any major issues. The only problem were the (fortunately rare) Prince of Persia-like puzzles where you have to jump diagonally.

Bro, you need to just play the games you bought and wait another five weeks for the major sale! And I'll bet you still haven't played the games you bought during the Christmas sale!

True... But none of those games were Anno 2070, relaxing futuristic city builder! And what if they pull Anno 2070 off of Steam like they did AD 1701 and 1404? Then I'll be sad!

GAH. This amazon sale has sort of tapped me out but I want anno... What exactly does it do for drm, because currently I can only game in steam offline mode since I don't have broadband at home.

As far as I can tell it only has an installation activation, but "Strongly encourages" staying online due to persistent leveling up shenanigans I don't really understand. But supposedly after installing and activating it can be played offline. Supposedly. Not sure if you're crippled by not being online.

I've been wanting Anno 2070, but $25 is still more than I'm willing to spend. Guess I'll have to wait for a summer/holiday sale.

The race to the bottom effect. Like on the App store, except that 4,99$ is 0,99$.

Honestly with all the games I have to play, unless a game is absolutely fantastic and I've been dying to play it for months on end, I'm not buying it at more than that.

Pretty much this. I was still a cheap shit when it came to buying games even when I bought physical copies, but my cheap shit-ness has changed with downloadable sales. My acceptable price range has gone down, but the volume has gone way up. 2070's one of those weird outliers I'm pretty interested in and would've bought for $25 in a heartbeat during the physical era, but now I really have to consider it just because of buying so many other games, many of which are good. Or goodish. Or goodesque.

Probably going to buy it though. Really liked 1701 AD and good city builders aren't super common. Ubisoft and Valve will no doubt kick me in the balls and sell it for 75% off during the summer sale in a few weeks, but eh. Was interested in Alan Wake and Rayman too, and skipped both of those in favor of a possible 2070 sale and here we are.

I usually stick to buying in bulk during the major sales. Sometimes I buy stuff in between but only when the discount is fairly steep at 60% off or more. The common refrain from Steam critics is that you're just renting the game. Well, if that's the case then I figure I should only pay rental prices. Of course if it's a game I really want and is reasonably priced (like Torchlight 2) then I have no problem with a day one order. But, in the four pack I got it in minus what I got selling the free copy of Torchlight 1 it only comes to $12.

The bulk of what I play are indie/old games, anyway. The only four 'big ticket/AAA like' games I'm waiting on a sale for are Skyrim, Amalur, Risen 2, and Witcher 2 -- none of which I'm dying to play.

WELP talked myself out of 2070 for now. Hopefully it'll get cheaper before it gets yanked due to Ubisoft dumbfuckery, like 1404 and 1701.

Painkiller complete pack 75% off, or you can get single parts as you wish.

Recall reading here its good for what it is ?

Yeah, Painkiller Black is the one you want. It's the base game and first expansion. After that it gets progressively worse, though I've heard Overdose (The second expansion) can be tolerable. Still, $2.50 for Painkiller Black is what you really want if you're interested.
