Played about an hour and a half of Dungeons. $6 poorly spent. Even trying to keep not-Dungeon Keeper in mind the gameplay is irritating since you essentially have to collect all your resources yourself. You get "Soul energy" from happy heroes who get loot/kill monsters, and it's in your best interests to kill them when they hit full soul energy (You instantly get that hero's full soul energy transferred to you as a "Bonus", then get the rest when you kill/capture 'em), so you keep your dungeon lord hanging back until the heroes are happy, then rush forward and harvest them, and repeat. All while trying to juggle building shit and mining and so on. Could've been ok if not for making the player babysit every attacking hero for maximum dosh.

It never played that game but the moment I read the concept, it did sound very silly. I also deplore that there aren't more games like the original Dungeon Keeper, or at the very least for the atmosphere. Games that let you play an evil overlord — including Overlord, which I found fun despite its shortcomings — always play it under the angle of parody, and while it's fine at least DK really went with a dark tone right from the start, tempered with subtle touches of humour here and there like the land descriptions or some of the advisor's comments or even some of the creature's behaviours. It was also nice to see that the heroes weren't that good either, being more interested in your treasure room than riding the land of your presence.

bullfrog games just had fuckton atmosphere in general

syndicate, magic carpet, gene wars, dungeon keeper (NOT 2), and to this day theme hospital hasn't been topped for its niche

hell, even black and white had some good vibes on the first island when it was nighttime and you were just puttering around with the light of your hand and training your creature with only the interface speaking every so often and the advisors shutting the fuck up

then fable happened and what the fuck

I'm on the fence too, it looks pretty interesting but it got a mediocre review at adventuregamers.com. Ah fuck it, who am I kidding, I'll buy it in the hopes that I can some day catch MHC now that Ed has been defeated.

Maaaaaaaaan, Syndicate is $6 on Gamersgate. Wish it was on Steam and $6, the co-op looked kinda alright. Still slightly tempted to grab it since it'd be $5 after my Gamersgate discount, but non-Steam game, ehhhhhhhhh. And I don't have any stalwart bros to co-op it with.

Guild 2 franchise is the daily deal. Which of these was the one to buy, if at all? Renaissance?

IIRC Skyway (Who is the biggest Guild 2 fan on the Codex I believe, I still like Guild 1 more) thinks Pirates or the base game is best. I haven't played enough to notice differences between expansions, I only ever messed with Renaissance.

Just to clarify a bit the Amazon rep on CAG said all should come with Steam keys but looking over the list I'm pretty sure around a third aren't even on Steam so who knows. And yeah, probably the only thing I don't already have and might be interested in are the Star Wolf sequels but I hear they're pretty bad and I'd like to get around to playing the original first. Still, if anyone wanted even at least half of those games it is quite the deal.

Yeah, thinking the same thing.

Also, ye gods. Someone is approaching my game total on my friends list. I clicked over to his profile 'cause I saw he just bought "Doom Rails" and wondered what sort of a maniac would do such a thing. This is his recently played list.

What the fuck?
Edit: Good god, just noticed his account was made in 2011. How horrifying.

Gotta love a guy who has 950+ games on Steam, 137 on his wishlist, and plays a grand total of ~4.5 hours a week. Some people just buy games to buy games.

I'm about 5 shy of 800 and I think I'll get that 1C pack if it's mostly steam keys. I'm coming for you MHC, I'm coming. Guess that means I'll have a bunch of GG keys to give away since I already bought the pack when it was on sale at GG.
EDIT: Make that 6 shy.

You and your 2004 registration. I HAD STANDARDS! Also hated Steam and resisted a while. Resisted buying anything on Steam until 2007, only reason I registered at that point was because I finally broke down and bought HL2 for cheap from an online retailer. Then I eventually noticed Steam wasn't too shitty and they started running deals and SHIT WENT DOWN.

My first Steam purchase was very monocle!

Maybe, he is a "professional" game reviewer. You will have to play the game for an hour so you can add a review to your blog.

The complete collection is $5 on Steam. Still, just wonder which is the best as most of the content overlaps.

While it would seem that Renaissance is the way to go and it is if you just want one game to give the most 'complete' experience, hey don't all have the same content. While some maps are repeated throughout the series, there are quite a few unique maps particular to only certain games like Venice which you won't find anywhere else(and they are pretty cool for what it's worth). Renaissance has its own unique maps but misses out on a lot of others.

On top of this, Pirates of the European Seas is unique in having a loose, story based campaign which is a nice change of pace from the totally open sandbox style of play which always tends to get a bit repetitive. A bit like the Impressions city builder type game where you'd get a particular goal as objective and limited resources in the main campaign rather than just a free for all.

I'd go for the lot personally, you'll be just saving a couple bucks at most and you won't die wondering.

Where are you seeing this offer though? Must be in the US as I can't find it on Steam.

You must remember also that there aren't many maps in each game, just 5-6. I think Venice has just 3, so if the series really tickles your fancy, you might want to pick up the whole thing just for extra content. It's kind of stupid how they remove maps from the newer versions, forcing you to play them with older versions of Guild 2.

Is there something in pirates and renaissance that isn't in the plain on other than the maps? I guess I am just wondering which to play first.
