Defeated Zagor with Lunika (1st game with her; 4th overall).

I suppose TWoFM could be criticized for being overly easy and simplistic, but these gamebooks were more or less all targeted for children as the audience, and this game is a splendid realization of a gamebook in terms of graphics, interface, and mechanics. Will play with more characters, mapping out more of the dungeon and outcomes for various choices.

Played a bit yesterday and its very enjoyable and a very interesting adaptation. I'm still not sure if it's worth 20€ though, specially with the sorcery adaptations costing so little.

But the different characters are a nice idea since every one would reroll a 7 or 8 skill character anyway.

How big is game?
The dungeon is divided into 5 main sections:
1 section is non-linear and randomized (though I think each part of it will always appear; the randomization just affects locations)
1 section is largely linear
1 section is short and linear
2 sections are large with multiple paths and not completely linear even within each path

It took 8 games before I had experienced more or less the entire dungeon, writing things down beginning with the 4th game in which I, almost inadvertently, reached Zagor the Warlock and completed the dungeon. In my opinion, it's well worth the price.

Finished it with the sword-wielding female, I think her name is Alexandria. The last two areas were a bit too combat heavy for my tastes. Maybe I just didn't discover enough items early on, or perhaps my character just doesn't have that many options, because I felt like it was a grind until I found the warlock. That said, the encounters are pretty fun, so I'm not complaining too much. I was down to 0 resurrection stones, 0 luck, and about 4 stamina by the time I reached the warlock, so let's just say I was very thankful about how things went when I showed him the stone.

There was a recent update over steam, and if you check out the character selection screen you'll see that you can unlock additional heroes. None of them really catch my fancy, but I have about 450 souls burning a hole in my pocket (do you get significantly more souls if you use more keys at the end?). Any recommendations for selecting a new character? The game also says there will be new adventure modules, which sounds promising.

Steam says I have played it for 4 hours. I intend to play this module one or two more times, so it should probably give about 6 hours of enjoyment. The game also appears to randomize certain encounters and rooms.

IIRC, after defeating Zagor you obtain 50 souls per Zagor's Key in your possession from his chest.

For new characters, some of them have an objective that is not only completely separate from defeating Zagor but also gives you the option of turning back and leaving the dungeon after completing this objective (e.g. Dekion Strom, Wanushu, Krea Datura). Some characters have unique encounters related to their quest (e.g. Krea Datura, Gilfane, Twenty-three). Probably, you should look at their attacks and choose whoever seems more interesting in combat.

Thanks. I wish the game included some items/spells that could affect combat. It would be more interesting if your own character could employ new tactics as the game progresses.

Is there anyone who can use the shield from the prison cell armory? The orc lady has a shield on her model so I'm guessing her atleast?

I would assume so. My Samurai guy mentioned not using shields so it had no value to him.

Any recommendations for selecting a new character?

I went for the ones with "new" attributes to get more options and varied content, like the Rhino dude who is Oversized, so stuff like the bridge will break if you try to cross and you can't squeeze through some passages, and the Orcish lady who get lots of interactions with the orcs and can smite evil with Righteous sometimes.

What a wonderful little game. Although calling it little might be doing it a disservice, because I have just spent several hours exploring the dastardly warlock's dungeon, immediately starting a new game after my chosen hero had finally died – only to keep finding new paths into the den of stinking evil! And I can count the games that had me doing that on the fingers of a clumsy woodworker. I would wholeheartedly recommend this to any friend of fun looking for a wholesome adventure, and I can only wish we had more gamebook conversions as charming as this one.

DLC Goblin Scourge! is coming today:

GoblinScourgeLogo.png

The Hill Goblins from Firetop Mountain have been unleashed on to Allansia! Three new heroes have entered the mountain and their stories are directly intertwined with the rampaging Goblin Scourge. Wander through the dark caverns and uncover the mysteries of Scarclaw's minions!

Three New Heroes!
Vignor Firestorm - Son of the revered Magnus Firestorm, Vignor has upheld his father’s name and legacy everywhere he has ventured. The burden to uphold his family name weighs heavily, as Vignor hunts down Scarclaw's Goblin horde who recently ransacked one of his father's homesteads. Revenge will be sweet!
Ophelia Lapwing - Born under a full moon in a clearing in Darkwood Forest, there is something strangely ethereal about Ophelia Lapwing. The trees of Darkwood are dying and Ophelia is also suffering from a strange ailment. Can she find answers before it is too late?
Haldar Eriksson - Time and again he has found himself in the direst of situations – usually through his own foolhardy behaviour. Haldar must find a famed sword that he stole from an Half-Orc, which was then lost to a Gnome in a game of cards, who was then waylaid by a band of Goblins. Can he find it within the Goblin catacombs?

Each adventurer comes with their own special attacks, customized story, and achievements to unlock.

The Goblin Gauntlet
Oriana has a test for you! She has offered you six of Zagor's finest minions to control. For the first time YOU can control a Giant Rat, Slime Beast, Vampire, Skeleton Warrior, Zombie or Orc Taskmaster. Each monster comes with their own special attacks and you can wander the paths and halls of Firetop Mountain unlocking Souls. Can your minion make it all the way to Zagor?

It won't be long until we release the first wave of digital Fighting Fantasy gamebooks in our brand new Fighting Fantasy Classics library. If you've followed our adventures for a while, you'll know we can't resist creating new logos for our digital adaptations. So, behold our new logos for The Citadel of Chaos and City of Thieves! We think they look great over Ian Miller and Iain McCaig's beautiful artwork - let us know your thoughts.

Fighting Fantasy Classics will debut with the following FF titles available to buy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, The Citadel of Chaos, The Forest of Doom, City of Thieves, Island of the Lizard King and Caverns of the Snow Witch. Bloodbones will be available to read and play for free! More FF titles will appear in a second wave later this year.

Stay tuned for more information over the coming weeks!

I've played my fair share of Choose Your Own Adventure books when I was a wee lad. I actually didn't have a computer back then, so this was these books were the closest I could get to actually playing a CRPG - alongside tabletop RPGs of course.

You cannot quite capture the same magic and excitement in a game that you get when you're flipping through pages to find the event you've chosen in an actual book. But this looks very interesting nonetheless. I'd love to see more Fighting Fantasy books turned into games for sure!

Got the Steam key here for 0,50 €: https://www.g2a.com/the-warlock-of-...MIv9XRiu2G2gIVEYmyCh3AnQH2EAAYASAAEgJYdPD_BwE

EDIT: I already defeated the Warlock once, it didn't take longer than 2-3 hours. It was a nice little adventure, although the maze trap was really frustrating. Especially the early battles were too easy and many later bosses had some obvious exploits that made the game very easy. I will buy some other adventurers with the souls and try the Story mode again.

By the way, the code I received after defeating the Warlock DIDN'T WORK! I got a message saying it's invalid.

So I cannot try the Gauntlet without paying for the DLC, since the code was supposed to unlock a character that can be used to try the Gauntlet.

I bought the DLC since I felt it to be little cheap of me just to pay 0,50 € for a game that I enjoyed so much. The DLC content is not that great, but I still enjoyed trying the Gauntlet with monsters.

I was also rather surprised how many different routes there are in the game. Different heroes have different routes and different ways to approach problems. It's very enjoyable to find new areas and new ways to approach events even after multiple playthroughs. Some of the later battles are also actually quite challenging. Next to the river I encountered a group of worms that had ranged attacks that dealt 3 dmg - they completely destroyed my hero. The Kingdom of the Dead also has some challenging battles.

However the code system seems broken to me. I've received two codes and neither of them works.
