Reminds me of an interview with Robert Jordan where he said he didn't think about video games much, but he gained some respect for them when he worked on the Wheel of Time FPS and saw how hard it was to make them. If i remember correctly he still claimed they weren't his cut of tea, but he could imagine had he been born later he would have probably been into them.

I guess there's a generational divide that can't be overcome, but for me part of the problem is that gaymes just aren't that serious no matter how you slice it and no matter how much copium you want to huff. I mean even Torment, arguably one of the best written games, isn't exactly that amazing if you compare it to a real high level novel why should old authors be impressed?

These are what I have, but if you live in Poland buy the ones with TW2 cover art.
Absolutely terrible, and those with TW2 cover art are even worse, what a retarded advice xD
Not only having any visualizations of the characters on the covers rob you of your own imagination/interpretation, TW2 covers use video game designs (and Sapkowski had nothing to do with them) with characters that aren't even in the books xD

Literally the worst edition.

I personally like this one the best (I don't know if there's an English version):

That's what I have, very old editions from the time no one ever thought of turning it into a tv show or a video game. Very old school, but the covers are shit.

No thanks. Being reminded of that Netflix abortion is far worse than than having to look at a random artist's depiction of a character in the novels. I specifically imported those in the pic I posted from the UK to avoid having to settle for the TW2 artwork versions, which were all that were being released at the time I started collecting them in my country. I have zero issue with what I bought.

Are these covers supposed to be disliked? I had these and really liked them but I gave them to my sister and when I went to buy new books my choice was between either the Netflix show or Witcher 3 covers. I ended up buying neither.

Pshek sucking thread, witcher books are trash made by an alcoholic boomer. The games range from Good with joke gameplay (Witcher 1), decent fun (Witcher 2) to open-world slop (Witcher 3) coming with the next installment bringing more heroic cunt to the table.

I'm not saying they're great, they are just better then other covers. You can see someone actually knew how to draw and put an effort to it. It's also a bit pulp, which fits to The Witcher.

I am about 20 hours into W3 and this was my 2nd best favourite RPG of all time but now Im using the mods that Arthandas suggested but particularly W3EE Redux

Its been fantastic so far and W3 EE and several mods improves and expands on everything I wanted. W3 EE comes with its own built-in mods like All Quest Objectives on MAP

The hardest part for me was getting use to the Controller and its mechanics like assigning and using bombs and potions but I am comfortable with all that now

I did have to learn basic Script Merger functionality which is necessary to install W3EE Redux and how you need to merge certain files when you first install it but the W3EE Redux documentation explains how you do this

I did have one bug with a weight increase mod that caused my vigor to stop regenerating but I uninstalled it and used another weigh increase mod and that worked fine

And my game so far is very stable and everything is working as expected, Im doing all the side quests in White Orchid before I go kill the Griffin

I really appreciate and prefer open-world RPGS, I am a huge fan of exploration and finding Easter eggs and random points of interest

I had my first really hard battle yesterday with the Devil by the Well, I havent done the Griffin yet and this is part of all the side quests I want to complete first in White Orchid

I'm also playing on Wolf difficulty level around W3EE Redux and Im not sure if these mods changed how hard this battle was suppose to be but it was epic, I finally won after about 2 hours and adopting the following approach

  • I wasnt able to craft any items like Specter Oil or Moon Dust bombs because I battled to find the ingredients but I did use Argentia Oil
  • I realized the only way to consistently harm the wraith was within the Yrden circle but this took some practice because Im use to rolling away so I learnt just to use dodge within the boundaries of the trap
  • I realized that quick swing was more effective and I didnt spam attacks and I used Quen
  • The wraith seemed to regenerate a lot but by killing her noonwraiths this seemed to reduce her regeneration?

The good news is I now am very comfortable with dodge instead rolling away so I will use that strategy going forward in combat because roll drains stamina anyway

You gonna go back and replay Witcher 2 from the other angle after you finish W3 chap?

You really have only half played it seeing only the Roche angle. The Iorweth one adds so much more to it.

I read lots of comments from fans of W2 that they preferred the Iorweth story arc than the Roche one

It's the reveals which you're missing too. There's a few characters which have some huge secrets which you don't get to see on one run. It gives a lot more weight to certain aspects of the story.

Plus, yeah, Iorveth's path is richer and more full of flavour in general.

We spoke about the whole Abigail vs Village moral conundrum but that was just one type of choice you need to make and W1 creates many other similar choices that include ( SPOILER ALERT )

  • who to side with, the Order or the Scoia'tael : I decided the Order, I dont think terrorism works or is sustainable

Did you consider the neutral path?
My impression is that a canonical path would be like Scoia'tael -> Neutral. Unlike the Order, the Scoia'tael does not ask Geralt to attack the other side in Act III, just killing a bunch of evil vampires, so that the Scoia'tael can attack the bank and escape.

Neither does the Order ask you to attack the other side. Siegfried asks you to investigate townsfolk going missing in the cemetery. Upon doing so, you discover the Scoia'tael locking them in a crypt with ghouls. And if you prioritise saving the townsfolk over killing the Scoia'tael, Siegfried praises that choice.

It seems I was thinking of the next mission which turns into a Scoia'tael or Order mission, depending on your choice.
The latter means that Geralt has no option, but to shed the blood of Scoia'tael in the bank, whereas in the former Geralt has to fight a bunch of new monsters (not vampires! my bad) who block the escape route from the bank.
I sided with the Order, and after fighting the Scoia'tael in the bank, there was little reason not to do the same when they occupy the lake village and side with the Order again.
Helping the Scoia'tael in Act III does not create the same commitment to their cause, though.
