Isn't it amazing how 1992 sprites still look magnificent, but mid-90s 3D has aged like milk?

primitive 3D has grown on me. At least 90's games had identity and good art direction, unlike modern games. Goofy ass cartoon looking shit.
That goes without saying. Modern hardware can't fix modern devs putting out soulless junk.

However it amuses me that this PlayStation port looks so much worse than the DOS version that preceded it by 4? years. The voice acting isn't exactly doing it any favors either. Aletheides sounding like a gas station clerk...

Replaying 8 for the first time since I was a lad... so a long while ago.

Any must have mods in this day and age?

In my opinion, Wizfast is a must-have mode. It will accelerate the animations of enemy turns, which will save you dozens of hours.

If you play a Russian version of the game, you would probably want to install unofficial patch 1.26. It fixes some of the game bugs. It works only with Russian version.

I heard there is somewhere a mod/patch that gives wizardry a wide screen support.

I also heard that there is a mod that allows you to hire more than two story mercs. So, you can create a "main" character and gather other party members in the world.

Bishop guide:

"Start a new party with a Bishop. Pump Int and Pie/Spd, then distribute skill points as follows: +5 Alchemy, +5 Psionic, divide remaining 5 points between Earth and Mental.
At level 2, switch Bishop->Mage to get the extra skill points. Pump skill points: +3 Earth, +3 Mental, +3 Wizardry.
At level 3, switch Mage->Bishop and pump: +3 Alchemy, +3 Psionic, divide remaining 3 points between Earth and Mental."

Why do I need these class changes? I do not understand?

Be warned that character's spell power is tied to class levels. You will reset your progress if you change classes in W8.

That sounds like normal skill point gain in Wizardry 8. Class changing is a trap in that game. Don't bother.
That may be the one class change worth doing (Sam also benefits from a similar one), otherwise it takes forever to train up the schools.

Except for Bishop/Mage.
I remember reading about Monk getting 125 in martial arts and switching class into fighter for Berserk cheese.
As with most “cheese” that one sucks too. Nip classes get better the smaller the party so that’s the kind of thing you might be able to get away with solo but still probably better to stick with base class to keep crit kill chance.

Quick question about the W1 remake (playing with classic rules):
Which attribute (if any) affects running away from a battle?

I'd guess it's agility and/or luck but then I'm wondering what the bonus looks like.

For Daphne someone said luck but there is also evasion (that is basically to dodge attacks though).

Class changes really aren't needed in Wiz 8. An Omnibishop seems cool but you won't use most of your spells anyway. The real benefit of a Bishop is having more spells gives you a shit ton of MP for the ones you want to cast.

The other issue is action economy--yes you can have a Fairy Ninja with 18 levels of Bard but you can't fight and use instruments in the same turn so the versatility you're expecting rarely pays off. Most combats are over in a couple turns and your classes should focus on their one good thing and just do that.

Here's a reminder for those that enjoyed Wizardry I-II-III but never tried Wizardry V: it is an amazing game, and you should play it!

Wiz V plays the same as the first 3 games, but with some great improvements such as finding secret doors, ranged weapons and polearms, fun npc interactions, puzzles, huge maps, new spells... easily my favorite Wizardry, or tied with 6.

Playing Wizardry 6 for the first time. Walked a lot without knowing what to do, checked every door possible, am at lv 6 in beginning of the game. How I open this type of door?

OPeoekS.png

Tried :
  • Bash
  • Lockpick
  • Knock Knock
  • Golden key
  • Copper key
  • Iron key
And nothing, I only opened one type of this door by finding an button in a wall. I'm using search everywhere but no clue about how to open it.

Most of those doors are opened with unique keys. You will be backtracking to the castle area as you progress through the game and new areas will become available.
