And now it's dead again, despite the minor success of Might & Magic X.

Going to have to go with Ruins of Myth Drannor because as bad as the others are, it's still the only of them that haunted you beyond uninstall.

Difficult, where do I put my single vote??

Fallout 3, Dragon Age 2, Hellgate: London, Invisible War are all games I find terrible for various reasons. Fallout 3 for pretending to be something it's not (yet, it's not as terrible as the other games, imo).

From Spoony's Ultima reviews I understand Ultima IX is horror (I absolutely loved playing and managing to get through the first Ultima), and Gothic IV from other sources~ I also recall something about Might & Magic IX to be terrible... and Might & Magic X aimed to redeem it, what was the result? I had fun with the ME series, "entertained", the ending/conclusion was lackluster.

But... most of those games aren't good games, most of them ARPG's too (if we are to differ between CRPG and ARPG).

The rest I don't know enough about enough, and some I actually like (Darkest Dungeon, Fallout, Oblivion... albeit that loot table and level scaling in that last one... can be modified *shrug*).

Voted dragon age 2 i still have nightmare T_T

Without wishing to undermine felipepepe, Bah, newfags thinking their mediocre action RPGs are the WORST THING EVER!!! :argh:

I wouldn't go as far as to say I enjoyed it, but it wasn't as bad as the hysteria surrounding it implied at the time. It was bioware being bioware, only on the cheap. I managed to finish it, which is more that I can say for some similar games (Witcher(s), looking at you).

No, it's just really, really dull, boring, bland, disappointing, dumbed down, rushed, and insulting to the prestigious gentleman's intelligence.

There's the core of a mediocre time-passing action RPG in there somewhere, but the culmination of the Ultima series deserved a lot more than that. It would be like if the Wizardry series ended with Kingdoms of Amalur instead of W8.

Worst in this context is gap between expectation and reality. Pillars was expected by many to somewhere between 'great' and 'good for what it is' and we got Banal Shit Boring. It's worth a place on that list, though I don't think it can match the shitness and moment of sharp decline that Oblivion was, for example.

It's not that. Most of those games are either hiking simulators, action games or shovelware, or some combination of the above. What's the point in naming any of them as "Worst RPG"? It's meaningless.

It's funny that ArcaniA is tied in 1st place, because the only reason it gets all this hate is due the "Gothic 4" subtitle. Otherwise, it's just a dull, dumb and limited game.

In fact, they removed the Gothic name and now it's called only "ArcaniA". Was "remastered" for the PS4 this year, and not a single fuck was given.

It's because the average Codexer likes to spew whatever it is they think is the Kodex Kool Konsensus.

I seriously kept reading it as Arcatera for some reason and wondering what the hell was going on. :?

Whoa whoa whoa, why does Ultima 9 have so many votes? Sure it was overhyped and a disappointment, but it wasn't that terrible after Super Avatar Bros Ultima 8.

Patched U8 was "good for what it was". I even finished it, unlike U9.

[marketing] Follow the opinion setters: Spoony killed Ultima IX and Roxor killed Gothic 4.

The other games lack impactful and inflammatory reviews.

Ultima 8 was a game that dared to do many weird things - the gameworld was like a Bizarro Britannia, the avatar wasn't the beloved and powerful hero he once was, and he's forced to do things he wasn't really supposed to do.
In terms of gameplay, it was a precedent for the Diablo formula. Sure, it wasn't what Ultima fans expected or wanted, and even LB himself kinda hates it (unlike u9, oddly enough), but I'm willing to be lenient towards games where I can feel there were human beings trying to do something cool here and there. This is why I keep my opinion: the ROA remake deserves all the shit it has received so far, and even more. The worst thing is that they are going to remaster the other games too. And the neat little series started by Drakensang is now relegated to a p2w mmo no one cares about.

Diablo should definitely on that list.
Even if no sane codexer would consider it as an RPG, i believe it was labelled as such and was a huge commercial success that led into the path of decline.
