So far, I'm liking what I see and hear (bet you thought you'd never hear that from me..I may have to change my name)

I like that EM is:

Pushing the envelope.
Causing controversy.
Changing the tired, worn out formula.
Taking ownership of the game.
Ruffling some feathers.

EM, please continue to bring new things to the table while removing some of the old. We True Fans are hungry, and frankly, are sick and tired of eating the same food for the last 15 years.

Thank you.

Obvious troll is obvious.

Most of the contribution to the discussion seems to come from concerned fans of the old games, though.

The only note I can add to the above is that the total Undead count was 4 Haunts and (I think it was) 8 Zombies in total.

Are you counting the unkillable and harmless haunt of the police station? Also no fire elementals and there is only one ghost in the game i believe(the sound of ghosts is creppy as hell).

No, that's a ghost. It walks through you and is blind. You can't even get it to attack you. And yes, there is the infamous librarian ghost in Casing the Joint, though it reappears in Masks.

The only point where I'm uncertain is the ship wreckage in Precious Cargo. There's a Haunt there, but I can't remember if there were any Zombies there.

Captain Markham is alone on his ship in Precious Cargo, and appears only when you take his treasure.

OK, then the final count is 4 Haunts, 6 Zombies and 1 Ghost, plus a non-interactive ghost in the Police Prison. Thanks for the info.

There are more AI in Running Interference than the total amount of Undead in all of T2. :-/

Thief 2 is great, fuck you all niggers. Its only bad part is the Casing the Joint -> Masks combo. And perhaps the Soulforge being a giant fetch quest, but it still kicks ass atmosphere and map design-wise. All the other maps are just as good as Th1ef Gold, albeit for different reasons.
T2 is great no doubt, but there are some weak levels, which make is inferior to TG.

TG has some mediocre levels too, like Escape for example.

Imma let you finish, but Escape is one of the best levels in the game. Strange Bedfellows on the other hand...

Goddamn Thieves Guild.

Escape is freaking traumatising. When I first played Thief, I watched the cutscene, started the mission, tried to play it and just could not make myself go in that place. It took about a week to get over the sheer terror from those mantis-things, ratmen, spiders and random fire elementals that were freaking everywhere. Escape is a good level. Not in the top ranks like Assassins, The Sword or Uninvited Guest, but it works admirably.

The Mage Towers, OTOH, were deadly dull.

Thieves Guild has a similar problem. It starts out like a usual heist mission but then quickly turns into a "dungeon crawl", albeit one with humans in it. You're not psychologically prepared for it.

Im trying to stay cautiously optimistic cause i loved the first 3, even Deadly Shadows which did have some really awesome moments. But I really don't like this craze with reboots, they couldn't get Hitman right. And If they don't get Stephen Russell to play Garrett they may as well have you play as the chick from the end of 3 cause that dudes voice made garrett.

Well, dropping the supernatural shit is definitely incline over previous thiefs.

Yeah, because Metal Age didn't do exactly that.
And its a worse game than Thief Gold because of that, and other reasons...

No. Zombies were retarded, same as burricks.

It made grave robbing so much more risky and those zombies were fucking scary as they could fuck you up easily (like pretty much every other enemy in the game).

Yeah, if you were 12. Also, zombies were basically pointless enemies because you could just sprint past them not giving a fuck, too slow to be any threat. Same for burricks.

And then they cornered you in a tiny tomb and then you prepared your anus for the ensuing rape you were about to receive.

Gravity is more dangerous enemy than those zombies, you can actually die a couple of times due to that silly Dark Engine jumping system.

It makes zero difference, who you talked to or didn't. It was simply one of examples of people going into drama queen mode over marketing nonsense.

So calling a turd a turd is going into "Drama Queen Mode" now? This is why we have :decline:

Zombies are not that much of a bother, once you get the hang of them, but it's more often the moment of... 'finding' them that gets people. Also, zombies alone are not dangerous, but when there are about... say, 30 of them in a pack (hello, Unknown Treasure) then you better steer clear. Even a zombie teamed up with any other type of Undead becomes much more dangerous than on its own.

I have to agree with Melan on The Mage Towers... it's a great premise for a level, but some of the rooms are just empty and pointless. It clearly needed more work.

Thinking about this now I'm sure the general press consensus that Thief 2 is the better game influenced them toning down the magic and undead elements.

Fucking media ruins everything.

I didn't mind the magic and steampunk stuff in Thief 2 - it enriched the setting because it was well designed and integrated.

What I'm most worried about in Thiaf is that they're gonna turn Garrett from a frail and vulnerable Thief into a super-fast, parkour sliding and deadly assassin.

Goddman don't they dare to fuck this up!

I think it's safe to say they'll make him more capable in combat this time. And no doubt they'll make the combat more fun to be pleasing to non stealthy players. I like the idea of reboot because I don't want this game to be treated as a part of the original series. Better this than calling it a proper sequel, like in case of Fallout 3.

Garrett wasn't even that incapable of combat in Thief and Thief 2. Beating single guards or zombies was easy (especially zombies), only groups of enemies would give you real trouble, or those superhuman haunts.
It was only in Thief 3 where you became sucky at combat due to only having a dagger rather than a sword (which was actually a good idea).

Still too arrogant and ignorant, sounds like they erase improve the previous Thief games and brand them "non-canon" from now on. I want them to humble and repent. I want them to call it Thief: we lost our Creed and Dishonored the series and Garrett himself.

Just wait and see, the bow will be upgradeable so that you can fire 2 and later 3 arrows at once, so you can be like Legolas and shit and kill 3 guards at once.

And then upgrade to piercing arrows and kill a whole dozen, because why the fuck not.

Don't forget about the bow killmoves. Composite upgradeable bow? Just think about the possibilities and 10/10 scores.
