I didn't enjoy DX: HR, so I doubt I'll enjoy this. Still, it might be lulzy to see how exactly they are going to "update" the series.

Also I've still no idea why AAA devs continue to introduce all these minigames in their games; I find it hard to believe there really are enough people who enjoy minigames out there to create such a demand for them.

Technically even Thief locks were simple minigames, since you had to switch lockpicks sometimes.

I'm not opposed to very quick and simplistic minigames whose only purpose is to occupy the player's concentration, leaving him open to being surprised and ambushed. For example, the hacking minigame in Bioshock 2.

What's so shocking? These are minigames that aren't meant to be a challenge, or a major time sink. Their only purpose is to distract you, to simulate the feeling of being occupied with something for a short while. That's what Thief's lockpicks did and that's what BS2's hacking did.

Compare with BS1's stupid Pipe Dream hacking.

I agree, I guess - I was just wondering about the current popularity of minigames in general, really.

All minigames are very cheap timesinks to inflate the time needed to beat a game, like spawning enemies seemingly nonstop in a scripted sequence until the checkpoint for another round of popping moles is reached. Ironically considering all the Doritos newspeak, minigames are very immersion-breaking.

Lockpicking in Thief 1 and 2 is as much of a "minigame" as the wait for a BFG to fire in Doom, and it is not something completely separated from the core gameplay, but instead an element in it.

It means they would be forced to at least acknowledge if not implement established lore and game mechanics.

With a reboot they can just say "lol whatever, it's a reboot" and do whatever the fuck they want.

I still expect them to make a solid game as I enjoyed HR, but I'm sure it's going to be dumbed down and piss off off Thief fans.

Bro, it's quite obvious they would be doing whatever the fuck they want either way. The fact that it won't be the same (or as good) as original games is not even a possibility, it's a fucking certainty. I don't even need any details to emerge to know that. And yes it's possible that it will still be enjoyable enough game, like DXHR was, but expecting the same kind of game from different makers and after all this time has passed would be dumb, digit "4" being placed in a title wouldn't change a thing.

Also, I think I've had enough of this Shrek moron too, welcome to ignore.

I liked Bioshock's mini game. :oops: (The connect the tubes one).
It is not about liking or disliking. It is whether they actually add anything meaning full to the experience of gaming. Adventure games need mini games because that is their idea of gameplay. A Shooter/Action/Stealth game should have its own gameplay sufficiently well done. Despite that you still may want to add mini games just for the heck of it. But then if they are pointless things that become a chore (hacking minigames, lockpicking minigames in AP) then they harm the experience.

Lockpicking in Thief 1 and 2 is as much of a "minigame" as the wait for a BFG to fire in Doom, and it is not something completely separated from the core gameplay, but instead an element in it.

I generally agree, but my intention was to point out that it was not as simple as "select lockpick, hold mouse button, wait for door to unlock". You needed to concentrate on what you were doing throughout.

Eidos was vague about how faithful it would remain to Thief's original lore, but did say that it would tone down many of the series' magical elements. Players won't likely encounter undead monsters or prowling dinosaurs as they did in the early Thief titles. However, Thief's concept art clearly shows that one of Garrett's eyes is a different color than the other, so it's possible that Eidos considers at least part of Garrett's original history as canon.

In previous Thief games, Garrett used a rope arrow to reach high points. Now he has the Claw, a throwable grapple that attaches to certain points in the environment and allows Garrett to get out of sight quickly.

Focus lights up the screen and highlights pipes you can climb or candles you can put out to darken the room. As you upgrade your Focus you will get a bigger radius of things to see. We have a fingerprints system that will give you hints on which drawers are worthwhile to look in. Every drawer in the room is accessible, but you use your Thief skills like CSI to figure out where the valuables are.

This really sucks :decline:. Horror elements are out. Thief Gold is Best Thief(faggots disagree of course).

Great. The one part of the "hardcore" Thief fanbase I dislike is the only one they decided to listen to. Confirmed to have no awesome levels like Return to the Cathedral or Shalebridge Cradle.

Half the fanbase are massive faggots who don't apreciatte missions such as The Sword or Return to the Cathedral. Thief is one of the best horror games out there.

I like how there are not going to be any horror levels, Return to the Cathedral was like FFFUUUUUU and I never played the Cradle cause even more FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.

But the Bonehoard was awesome, then again I wouldn't trust the devs to make a catacomb level that is as well made as this.

Everything else sounds shit though. ololol visual hints on loot and everything, typical modern popamole bullshit, but at least it's bound to an upgrade system
