Great stuff, RK, keep em coming.

The ballistic fist is awesome, it and the unique displacer glove are overpowered in Veronica's hands. I don't know if you fixed her up; the last patch breaks her levelling up I think. But fully leveled up and with some CHA on your side her unarmed is actually higher than 100, I think, and with Pushy in her hands she's a roaming death machine.

ED-E's sidequest blows. So does Lily's. Depth of followers really goes up and down.

Do not backtalk Machete.

That pretty much seems to have been the casting process. Same kind of thinking as "who doesn't want Liam Neeson to be their dad right?!" and unsurprisingly, it sucks ass.

Yeah I got the fix installed. I'm going to update this slowly. It seems like I played through the game...and messed up certain sessions, breaking some scripts out of order. It's a real confusing shit compared to Mass Effect 2 linear LP. Sometimes in the course of doing side quests, I get side tracked by another point of interest and forgot what I was doing (even worse, forgot to take screenshots!)

We head to Vault 21 in the Strip, which had been converted into a hotel. According to the owner, Mr. House poured concrete all over the vaults original tunnel systems. But the game never provides an official explanation as to why he did it.

I'm looking for an antique rangefinder somebody might've sold you.

The shopkeeper mentioned an old man bought the rangefinder not too long ago. He seemed nervous and had a strange collar on. She recalled that the man attempted to fiddle with the collar but stopped himself. He was last heard heading towards Freeside, the slums outside of New Vegas Strip in search of free accomodation.

vero.jpg
I don't like the sound of this. Hope that collar isn't what I think it is. What did you do, Elijah?

Before heading towards Freeside, I made a stop at Lucky 38 to hand over the Platinum Chip to Mr. House.

house.jpg
Such a small thing isn't it? And yet so...capacious. So very dear. Decades of hiring salvagers out west to search for this little relic in the ruins of a place called Sunnyvale. Back then, anyway. That's where the Chip was printed, on October 22, 2077. It was to have been hand-delivered to me here, at the Lucky 38, the next day. But the bombs fell first. Suffice it to say, the delivery was never made.

alex3.jpg
What does the Chip do, exactly?

I like how Obsidian actually pay attention to what happened and how many different ways events unfolded. I could have learned the Platinum Chip function before heading towards Caesar's Legion if you had killed Benny in the Tops Casino and the dialogue takes into account that you didn't.

Of course, you CAN totally ignore the Chip if you back the NCR. Another fine example of faction choices that never materialized in Fallout 3, despite the potential of Enclave / Brotherhood of Steel / Brotherhood Exiles fighting over the water processing plant.

house.jpg
Yes, so far as you've seen, all it does is change the picture on the Securitrons' face screens from policemen to soldiers. But as you'll see...Some things are more easily shown than told. Take the elevator all the way down to the bottom level, and you'll see what I mean.

vegas0356.jpg

house.jpg
I expect you're well familiar with my Securitrons by now. The titanium alloy housing that protects its electronic core deflects small arms and shrapnel easily enough.

vegas0357.jpg

house.jpg
And for close-range suppression or crowd control, the Securitron is armed with a 9mm submachinegun. All of this, you probably already knew. What you did not know is that these are the Securitron's SECONDARY weapon. Today, with the delivery of the Platinum Chip, all that changes. Behold, for the first time, Securitrons running the Mark II OS!

vegas0358.jpg

Holy shit.

house.jpg
And a rapid-fire G28 grenade launching system ensures the Securitron is deadly in close-range engagements.

Err...I still think chainsaws > grenade launcher at close-range but whatever.

house.jpg
The software upgrade also includes drivers for the Securitrons' highly sophisticated onboard auto-repair systems. All together, the Mark II software upgrade confers a 235% increase in combat effectiveness per unit. The city of New Vegas finally has soldiers worthy of protecting it! Return to the Penthouse now. We have much to discuss...

Note: If you put Yes Man in power before installing the Chip, Yes Man will be the one who gives the presentation. Neato!

Later...

house.jpg
Trips to the basement are rarely so educational, don't you think? I've since broadcast the upgrade to every Securitron in range of my transmitters, and I must say, it's causing quite a stir down on the Strip.

alex3.jpg
You think your Securitrons can defeat the Legion *and* the NCR?

house.jpg
Why would I want to go to war against the NCR? They're my best customers. If their leaders weren't scheming to steal Vegas out from under me, I'd have no troubles with the NCR at all.

Likely story, seeing how NCR works hard to protect towns that are under them, and are the only ones burying their dead in the war effort against the Legion. This is the only instance where I find Mr. House is slightly being dishonest. But what do you expect? He's a CEO, not a nation leader. His interests is purely economy.

house.jpg
The foundation is laid. My Securitrons on the Strip are upgraded, and those at the Fort, ready for action. Now it's just a matter of adjusting the attitudes of some lesser groups while we wait for Caesar's Legion to attack Hoover Dam.

alex3.jpg
What's the next step?

house.jpg
Outside New Vegas, at what was once called Nellis Air Force Base, resides an unusual tribe known as the Boomers. They are, how shall we say, aggressively reclusive? They have several howitzers they fire at anyone who dares approach the base. Artillery of this sort has a range of several miles. If it's going to fire on Hoover Dam, I want it firing at MY targets. If not, then I want to make sure that the Boomers don't sign similar treaties to fire their guns in support of the NCR or Caesar's Legion.

Uh oh, they all want the same thing....

alex3.jpg
I'll make sure they support the right side.

house.jpg
Use extreme caution when approaching their base. Their firepower is...considerable.

Well, that's enough update for now.
Current situation:
Securitrons Army upgraded and Fort bunker Reserves are active. They'll be able to match either NCR / Legion's forces in the battle for Hoover Dam.

We're still not hostile to any major faction. But all three factions want the same thing now: Either Boomer's alliance or destruction will suffice. Yes Man is on standby when needed.

Oh, not forgetting that Rangefinder for Ronnie in Freeside. Next update will cover that...main quest is on hold till we're done with Veronica's quest!

Totally plagiarized from Cleve's Bunker defence systems :smug:

Freeside, an alternate entrance to the Strip for non-NCR personnel. Freeside is really down in the dumps, contrast between the Strip is apparent, children chase rats with kitchen knifes for dinner, selling the extra bits to the meat vendor. Bums addicted to chems litter the streets. And the thugs don't mind brandishing a lead pipe to assault unsuspecting visitors. Within 5 minutes of my arrival, I already killed three of such attackers.

vegas0359.jpg

None of the benefits of Mr. House's domain extend beyond the gates, always guarded by Securitrons who perform a minimum caps check for interested entrants to the Strip. Inside one of the abandoned building, I assumed I found our quarry...

vegas0360.jpg

Except he's dead. His collar must've gone active and detonated everything above his neck. The rangefinder is not with him. To be honest, I was expecting some sort of reaction from Veronica upon seeing this, but there was absolutely none. The true fate of Father Elijah is left unanswered. I went out of the abandoned ruin and questioned the nearby bum.

vegas0361.jpg

"Kids...Run by...sh-shumtimes", he mumbled. I looked around and found a pair of children playing chase. The boy pointing an odd-looking toy gun at the other and pressing down the trigger. Could it be?

vegas0362.jpg

alex3.jpg
Give me that gun.

kid.jpg
Sorry, but I need it to shoot Stacey. We can find you another gun.

There's no option to give him a real gun, or just grab it from with brute force. Odd, don't you think? Child protection in the wastes. :decline:

:decline:

alex3.jpg
Can I buy that gun from you?

kid.jpg
This is the best gun in the whole galaxy. I paid a million caps for it. And it wasn't even brand new.

alex3.jpg
No, *THIS* is the best gun in the galaxy *points gun at the kid*

Oh wait that did not happen.

alex3.jpg
It's worth 1000 caps to me.

A barter check can severely reduce the price. Other options include waiting for the kid to sleep, and steal it from him. But the casino's winnings made money meaningless so I'm OK with donating to the poor.

kid.jpg
You mean it? Wow, thanks! I bet me and Stacey can get something real cool at Mick & Ralph's with that.

vero.jpg
Wow. Good thing the safety was on.

I frowned when I tried it out. Empty. There's no charge in it. Then I remembered, HELIOS One. I have to fix it first.

vegas0363.jpg

My NCR Reputation allowed me free entry. Otherwise I might have to convince her of my Scientific know-how. Or slip in through the back door.

hag.jpg
But if you really want to help us, talk to the idiot with sunglasses in the back of the plant. He's been trying to get this place running for months and hasn't made any forward progress.

vegas0364.jpg

vegas0365.jpg

This must be the idiot.

fan.jpg
Who the hell are you? They bring you in to replace me? They're replacing me, aren't they?

alex3.jpg
That's right. I'm here for your job.

fan.jpg
Ah shit. Shit, man. I need this. Gotta pay the bills. And I'm addicted to a lot of different kinds of chems. I mean a lot.

alex3.jpg
(Speech 25) You pay me a stack of caps right now and I'll forget you have my job.

fan.jpg
Aw, man. How am I supposed to buy chems now? Fine. Here.

Heh, free caps is always good.

alex3.jpg
Why are you worried about being replaced?

fan.jpg
Worried? Do I look worried to you? I've got this under control, baby. No one else can do what I do here.

alex3.jpg
What job do you have here?

fan.jpg
What else? I'm in charge. This whole operation depends on me. No Fantastic, no power. Got the whole NCR suckling my teats, and it feels good.

alex3.jpg
What EXACTLY do you do?

fan.jpg
Fuck, man. Everything. I push buttons. I turn dials. I read numbers. Sometimes I make up little stories in my head about what the numbers mean. Like one time I imagined they were a code to get into a vault full of naked women. Man, how cool would that be?

alex3.jpg
So you have no idea what you're doing.

fan.jpg
No, man. I know exactly what I'm doing. I just don't know what effect it's going to have. Over there controls power in this building. That station has readouts on the computer network. That big knob there makes a crazy noise. Sparks come out of that slot if you put stuff in it. And I'm learning more every day.

alex3.jpg
What are you trying to accomplish?

fan.jpg
Well, see, we're getting power, because the guy running this place is Fantastic. But the mirrors outside aren't aimed right, so we're running at one percent efficiency. And I guess that's just isn't good enough for some assholes. Trouble is, most of the controls for this place aren't here, they're in the tower. And that place has some crazy pre-war security system that the dumbshit NCR set off when they took over. Killed two guys. Now they won't go near it. They want me to make an omelet, but I can't break any of their eggs, know what I'm saying?

alex3.jpg
How would someone retarget the mirrors?

fan.jpg
There's these two terminals outside. They control the mirrors. I tried fooling with them but didn't get very far. You'd have to get them to talk to the mainframe up in the tower, then do the rest from up there. I'm guessing. But it sounds good, right? Hey, you're not thinking of going up there, are you?

alex3.jpg
I am now.

fan.jpg
Well hey, if you find yourself up at the mainframe, do yourself a favor and make sure you send the power to the right place. It needs to go to the Strip and McCarran. Here, you'll want this. It's the password to one of the terminals outside. Found it written on one of the stalls in the bathroom.

Well, at least he gave me something useful. HELIOS One is a solar plant, that's for sure. But there must be a hidden weapon in here, related to the Rangefinder. I poke around the lab for more clues and found Mr. Fantastic's assistant, who looked more capable.

vegas0366.jpg

alex3.jpg
My interest in this place is scientific.

igna.jpg
Then we have that in common. Whom do you typically work for?

alex3.jpg
(Speech 35) This is your turf. For all I know you could have me killed for my allegiance. Who are you with?

igna.jpg
Very well. Yes. I'm a part of the Followers of the Apocalypse. If you're not familiar, we seek peace and the spread of knowledge. Knowledge that must never be lost to the world. Now your turn.

alex3.jpg
I just do what's necessary to keep the peace.

igna.jpg
That's reassuring, although many who've made that claim over the years have had less than pure intentions. But if it's really as you say, then take my advice. This installation carries with it dangers that no one here has realized. Take care what you do here, and who you listen to. Some things are best left buried with the old world.

alex3.jpg
What more is there to this place than a power plant?

igna.jpg
I don't entirely know. Our records on the company that built this place suggest that their dealings were not only in energy, but also in weapons. And I've seen equipment here marked with symbols used by the Pre-War military. Targeting computers. Shock sensors. A codeword comes up repeatedly in the papers I've looked through here. ARCHIMEDES.

alex3.jpg
You think ARCHIMEDES is a weapon they built here.

igna.jpg
Yes. And the technology they have in mind in this facility is like nothing I've seen. Some of it reminds me of Enclave equipment but more advanced. A weapon based upon it would be catastrophic, no matter who claimed it. It's no wonder the Brotherhood wouldn't give it up.

alex3.jpg
The NCR doesn't know about the weapon?

igna.jpg
Not yet. By some miracle they've hired a complete imbecile to try and decipher the systems here. He's spent month working at one console trying to get the solar reflectors to track the sun. What he doesn't know is that the only thing the console controls is the plant's intercom system. I tried to tell him. but he insisted that the largest console had to be the most important. Still, it's only a matter of time. If you are the one to restore output, then you can route the power where you choose, and they'll never be the wiser. I can't get you past the security in the tower, but I can be of some help. I've discovered a password for one of the mirror control terminals outside. You'll need it.

Alright. We reset the two outside consoles connection to the main HELIOS One tower. The first console is guarded by mines and traps. No problems. The second one has dogs that can trigger combat with NCR troops. Big no-no. I used a Stealth Boy to activate the second one.

vegas0367.jpg

The remaining duration of my Stealth Boy was spent on running past the robots and disabling them with Robotics Expert perk. A terminal also deactivates the gun turrets. I finally reached top floor and activated a maintenance droid to complete repairs on the power cables because my repair skills are too low to do it myself..

vegas0368.jpg

The control terminal comes to life and I can choose where to redirect the power.

vegas0369.jpg

I picked ARCHIMEDES II without hesitation and head upstairs to the Reflector Controls.

vegas0370.jpg

I pulled the switch. No turning back now.

vegas0371.jpg

The solar arrays lighted up one by one. The Rangefinder beeped as its charge restored. Eureka!

We're going to need a bit of open field to test it out, I head back to the solar plant to report my progress to Ignacius.

alex3.jpg
I diverted power to the grid.

igna.jpg
I saw that on the monitors here. It's strange, but I can't find where on the grid the power is being sent to.

:smug: The whole plant's energy is stored inside, awaiting for the signal sent by the Rangefinder...

igna.jpg
Nevertheless, hopefully the NCR's curiosity is satisfied now that the plant's output is improved. Here, accept these, for your efforts.

We gain some Followers of the Apocalypse fame and caps. I didn't have any option to tell him the truth of ARCHIMEDES II, but anyway, let's head back to the Hidden Valley for a test run of the weapon. Upon arrival, ED-E speakers once again crackled to life.

vegas0374.jpg

ed.jpg
I picked up some unusual chatter regarding your robot. It seems that it has some information that we could use. Oh wait, where are my manners. This is Lorenzo, a Knight with the Brotherhood of Steel. We'd be very interested in examining your tech. Whenever you get the chance, can you bring your robot back to Hidden Valley so I can take a look at it?

Nope. No way. With the way they bunkered themselves in, there's no guarantee they'll return ED-E. I ignored the transmission but another voice came from the speaker, it's a female this time.

ed.jpg
Hi, sorry to break in, he sounded truly riveting. I don't want to keep you much longer, but I'd like to make a counter suggestion. I'm with the Followers of the Apocalypse. We are much more liberal about the sharing of technology than those Brotherhood...people. Bring your robot to us, we'll see that whatever information it may have on it is used for the greater good.

That sounds better. I marked my Pip-boy with the coordinates she sent me. Turns out they hang out at and old Mormon Fort in Freeside.

Later at Hidden Valley....

Let's give Archie a spin! I was so excited that I forgot to aim it before hitting the trigger. The rangefinder beeped to life.

vegas0375.jpg

alex3.jpg
Don't worry, Ronnie. I got this.

vegas0376.jpg

vegas0377.jpg

vegas0378.jpg

vegas0379.jpg

Impressive. Except that it takes 24 hours to recharge. I shook off the dust off my clothes and cleaned my sunglasses before handing over the Rangerfinder to Veronica. Let's hope it's enough to convince the Brotherhood.

vegas0380.jpg

vero.jpg
I brought you a present. We unlocked the secrets of HELIOS One.

elder.jpg
What? Wonderful news!

vero.jpg
No. It's not. ARCHIMEDES II is an orbital laser. Effective only outdoors in a limited radius and requiring long recharge.

Sounds like my penis :smug:

elder.jpg
In the hands of the enemy -

vero.jpg
They'd be marginally more effective. We lost most of the chapter defending glorified artillery.

elder.jpg
We couldn't have known. We fought for what we believed in.

vero.jpg
And nearly died for it. Tomorrow you'd do it all over again, having learned nothing.

elder.jpg
Are you trying to shame me?

vero.jpg
I'm trying to open your eyes. We need to engage the outside world. We can't win without new recruits.

elder.jpg
What does the Codex say? :smug:

I lol'd when that line came out.

vero.jpg
A bunch of close-minded bullshit.

I LOL'sploded.

elder.jpg
We do not help them, or let them in.

vero.jpg
But-

elder.jpg
We keep knowledge they must never have.

vero.jpg
Give it a chance. For me. I can't stay here and watch us waste away.

puppyeyes2ja9.jpg

elder.jpg
I'm sorry.

vero.jpg
We'll die out.

elder.jpg
*sighs* I know.

vero.jpg
We'll get Jagged Alliance 2 Reloaded.

elder.jpg
I know.

vero.jpg
Oblivion sequel.

elder.jpg
I know.

vero.jpg
Fallout 4 sequel.

elder.jpg
I know.

vero.jpg
Come on. I can't listen to this anymore.

We walked away from the Elder's chambers and Veronica turned around to me. She sounded torn. And vulnerable for JRPG rape. :smug:

vero.jpg
He wouldn't listen. The truth was right there staring him in the face. How could he not listen?

Maybe you should invest in more Speech.

alex3.jpg
Maybe if we make a stronger case, he'll change his mind.

vero.jpg
No. Our case wouldn't be any stronger if tomorrow they all died when their energy weapons backfired. I just didn't expect that. There was no getting through to him. How can I help them when they won't accept it?

alex3.jpg
Would someone else listen to you?

vero.jpg
It wouldn't matter. The Elder has final say. The hell of it is he's one of our most progressive members. If I can't get him to agree, it's hopeless.

alex3.jpg
Where does that leave you?

vero.jpg
I..I don't know if I can stay. Maybe it'd be better for everyone if I left. Spent my life...somewhere else. Work with the Followers of the Apocalypse, maybe. Put my knowledge to some good use. Or I can stay here with the people I care about and do whatever I can, until it comes to a slow or sudden end.

I struggled for the right choice. I can't bear to let her stay here with these close-minded bunch. It's such a waste of her spark. She can do so much good outside, but doing so will break her apart from the only family she ever knew. Or I can leave it to herself to make that decision.

alex3.jpg
(That, and I haven't fucked her yet.)

Correct.

alex3.jpg
Leaving now is your only shot at the future.

vero.jpg
There's no getting around that, is there? What would my life be like here, knowing what's to come? They're not going to like this. We're given a chance when we're young to choose whether to stay. If we do, it's supposed to be for life. But they haven't left me any choice. It's this or a lifetime of scavenging and watching my friends die in losing battles. I guess it's settled, then.

I took her power armor clad arms in mine and led her up the stairs.

vero.jpg
Let's get going. I'd like to get my mind off all this. And some fresh air would do me some good right about now.

I let go of her arm immediately upon exiting the bunker and reached for my sniper rifle.

vegas0381.jpg

Trouble.

vegas0382.jpg

alex3.jpg
This isn't your place. You're neither Head Scribe nor Elder.

steel.jpg
Their sentimentality prevents them from administering justice. Our duty is to the Codex above all, something your companion has forgotten. And that gives us the authority to make it our place.

alex3.jpg
It won't be a problem. She's leaving.

steel.jpg
Leaving? Into exile? Good. Save us the trouble. But mark me well. Any hint of treachery or thought of return and we will erase the both of you from existence.

They left...that was close. Not sure if we can take them head on. Those power armors are a bitch to penetrate.

vero.jpg
Well, if there was any question whether I should leave, I guess there's my answer.

alex3.jpg
You're sure you're okay leaving them behind?

vero.jpg
Yeah. I think if I stayed I'd end up causing trouble. Sometimes I just can't help myself. This way is better for me and for them.

alex3.jpg
Are you still going to travel with me? (And fuck you?)

vero.jpg
Sure. I want to establish a connection with the Followers first, but as far as I know, drifting is part of the job description.

alex3.jpg
(YES!) Come on. Let's get out of here.

vero.jpg
I think that'd be best. There's a follower outpost up near one of my old scavenging grounds. Used to do some trading with a doctor there. If I work out of there, I'll still be able to keep tabs on Hidden Valley if I needed to. I know that route like the back of my hand. If it's all right, I'd like to head that way. Meet some people, see if I can be of any use.

We make our way there immediately.

vegas0383.jpg

alex3.jpg
This is Veronica, formerly of the Brotherhood of Steel. She's interested in joining your cause.

dr.jpg
The Brotherhood? Well, this is unusual, I must say. But very welcome. There's certainly a lot we could learn from your technological expertise. Doctor Schiller usually handles placement, and he won't be back until tomorrow. If you could come back then, we can see about your assignment.

We agreed to return tomorrow and retired for the night at my Novac's apartment. I was disappointed I didn't get to sex her that night. Then I remembered she is a lesbian. :(

The next morning, we returned to the outpost. Upon opening however, we were confronted with a pile of ash and other corpses of the Followers.

vero.jpg
Oh no. No, no, no, no, no, no.

vegas0384.jpg

Every Follower is dead...who could've done it?

vegas0385.jpg

....No fucking way. They murdered the doctors?!

steel.jpg
We tracked your movements a long way. But it was worth it to catch her in the act. Passing Brotherhood secrets to outsiders is the lowest form of treason. What have you got to say for yourself?

alex3.jpg
She hasn't shared any secrets. You don't have any proof otherwise.

steel.jpg
She has made her intentions pure. We will not risk any further damage.

As will I. You tin cans have done enough damage. I jammed the Psycho needle to my arm and focused.

steel.jpg
In the name of the Elder, I hereby sentence you to death.

vegas0386.jpg

The red shield icon indicates that the Cowboy Repeater isn't packing enough punch to break through the power armor. I quickly switched to the Sniper Rifle for best results.

vegas0387.jpg

Turns out point blank sniper rifle can pierce almost anything.

vegas0388.jpg

It's over. The whole murderers lies dead with their victims...I glanced at Veronica, not knowing what to say.

vero.jpg
God, I did this. This way my fault. Why didn't I see this coming? Of course they'd track me. Of course they'd assume the worst. Sure, I left them. But that didn't mean I'd ever be free of them. I should've known I was beaten before I began. I just... I had to try, you know?

:(

alex3.jpg
You don't control the people who did this.

vero.jpg
No...I don't, do I? If I did, none of this would've happened. I should've left a long time ago. Cut my losses before it came to this. I...I never stood a chance.

vegas0389.jpg

Veronica's turned more bitter and ever. Her fists now channel her unbridled fury of Steel.

vero.jpg
Listen... I want to thank you for helping me out. I'm sorry that things didn't go like I'd hoped. But at least I got the chance to try. At least I know for sure that there was nothing I could do. Thank you for giving me that chance.

End of Veronica's Quest

It could be resolved in two ways...either she stays...or she leaves the Brotherhood. But I find leaving the most logical conclusion and it is related to how events will play out in the Brotherhood's ultimate fate at the end of this LP.

A fate that is inexplicably dark for making V-Chan miserable.

And you get to loot the gatling laser...
Mhmm.. Crispy rad-scorpion bits! :smug:

Now though, you're cut off from ever learning how to wear power armor yourself, no? :M

you don't have to buy the laser gun from the black kid. you can steal it when he's sleeping. second floor first building on the right entering freeside.

That's what you think. :smug:

The Brotherhood still opens its doors. But Veronica will wait outside.

What would happen if you killed those that threaten you before you go to the Followers? Veronica could still join them, no?

Huh?
Why wouldn't they let the courier in?
And it's not even like the assault on Followers by BoS was an official order as far as we know.

Exactly, it wasn't an explicit order to terminate the Courier or Veronica, and I doubt these brothers actually checked through Elder McPussy before leaving.

They would never go out for patrols during the day due to the lockdowns, but they'd authorize terminating a whole medical team outpost. Nahhhh. It's consistent. The Courier still has a neutral relationship with the Brotherhood at the moment - shit happens in the waste - nobody knew what happened to the dead bros.

Veronica will not return because she doesn't want to and that's that.

Killing these three guys when threatened outside the bunker? Uh...I suppose I'd lose rep with the Brotherhood. Did not check and doesn't feel 'in-character' to provoke a bunch of power armored fellas.

Overall, the writings for Brotherhood faction in this game is pretty solid in contrast with FO3 Knights in Shining Armor archetypes. It really painted a really grim picture for them making the wrong choice after Navarro incident.

Actually, there is one way to get PA training without the brotherhood. It doesn't happen until way later in the game though, as it is tied to your progress towards the endgame.

And Arcade Gannon needs to like you for the quest to trigger.

Haven't gotten that far yet myself, but if
Arcade's like is affected by rep among the Followers (which I dearly hope is so)
, it should be much easier to get than other companion quests.

It is, but not as much as you would expect. It's mainly random trekking across the wasteland(Gee that is a spoiler alert for you).

The sense of humor is a bit Fallout 2-esque, but this screen does make me lol.

I'd picked Veronica to stay. Doing so means you can't avoid the BoS fight right out of the bunker (without appropriate skills). Thought that was pretty cool but hey look, you can't avoid the fight regardless

No negative rep for doing it outside the bunker either

Does Veronica have any special dialog for a female character with the gay perk (like when asking about her love life)?

Boone's standing by at the Lucky 38 because we're heading straight to BoS bunker right after Cottonwood Cove. If we bring Boone along, he'll go apeshit and kill every single legion in the Fort. Not what I wanted.

Let's drop off ED-E at the Follower's Old Mormon Fort, Freeside.

vegas0390.jpg

alex3.jpg
What are you going to do with it?

dr2.jpg
First I'm going to pull off whatever log data I can. Then, I'll use some of the tech around here to upgrade its weapons systems. Shouldn't be more than a few days work.

alex3.jpg
What would you like it for?

dr2.jpg
I've heard through our channels that it has some research that may be related to Enclave and Poseidon Energy technology. I'd like to get what I can from it and use that data for the good of humanity...ALL of humanity, unlike the Brotherhood.

Sounds fine.

alex3.jpg
OK, you can take it for a little while.

Old Mormon Fort provides medical services to the poor, and does not charge anything if the patient cannot afford the fee. Something like the Wasteland version of Red Cross. I talked to their leader, Julie Farkas, a doctor who sports a mohawk.

vegas391.jpg

alex3.jpg
Things seem pretty rough here in Freeside.

julie.jpg
More than rough, it's a damn mess. Freeside townies are constantly picking fights with NCR civilians. Thugs and thieves are always looking for a victim, and the local families are just sitting back making caps on the mess. Freeside is in dire need, but no one has been man enough to step up. The Followers can only do so much to stem the tide.

This is where I get sidetracked and forgot that I was supposed to be doing the Boomer's quest.

alex3.jpg
Is there anything I can do to help?

julie.jpg
There is always something needing done. A few souls here in Freeside could be great assets to the community, if they'd kick their addictions. We also need to get a regular supply of medicine organized, but the Crimson Caravan wants too many caps for what we need. Lastly, tensions between the townies and NCR tourists have been going downhill fast lately. A lot of innocent people will get hurt if things blow up.

alex3.jpg
You said something about helping addicts?

julie.jpg
Yes, Old Bill Ronte and Jacob Hoff. They're not going to kick their habits on their own.

alex3.jpg
Where should I start looking?

julie.jpg
In Freeside, the drunks and drug addicts flock in and around the Atomic Wrangler. I'd start there.

alex3.jpg
I'll see what I can do to help them.

The bums aren't hard to find. During the day they just sit on the roadside begging for alms.

vegas0392.jpg

alex3.jpg
Julies Farkas says you could use some help.

jac.jpg
Julies is a saint, but I don't need help. I feel young and strong, as long as I get my chems.

alex3.jpg
You look pretty bad, Jacob. You should probably stop using chems.

jac.jpg
Why stop? I feel great! No worries, my guy will be here soon enough, just wait.

alex3.jpg
Who's supplying you?

jac.jpg
If I had two caps to scrape together I'd buy the materials to make my own, but my damn hands won't stop shaking. This guy named Dixon. Something about him seems sketchy, but I can't stop now. Last time I stopped, I felt like I was going to turn inside out. At this point I'm mostly buying his stuff just so I don't feel sick. Speaking of which, do you have any spare caps?

I ignored his request and approached Dixon, the drug dealer.

vegas0393.jpg

alex3.jpg
Do you know anything about Bill or Jacob?

dixon.jpg
Yeah, man. Those cats are out of their domes addicted to my shit. They can't get enough. Pretty hilarious to watch.

alex3.jpg
I need you to stop supplying Bill and Jacob.

dixon.jpg
Raelly? Aw, you're such a saint. You know what? I might be willing to stop if there is something in it for me.

My speech is too low to convince him.

alex3.jpg
Maybe some caps could persuade you to leave them alone?

dixon.jpg
300 caps and I'll stop selling to them. Otherwise, it is just too much fun watching them spiral downward.

Hmm. 300 caps = 300 x 10mm bullets.

alex3.jpg
Screw that. It'd be a lot cheaper and easier for me to kill you.

dixon.jpg
Ooo, I always enjoy a good scrap!

Time to clean up this neighborhood.

vegas0394.jpg

vegas0395.jpg

Problem solved.

jac.jpg
So you're back. Got any chems for me yet?

alex3.jpg
I took care of that dealer. Now you can clean up.

jac.jpg
What? I need a fix now!

alex3.jpg
I want to help you get well, Jacob.

jac.jpg
Fine. If you really care so much, then get me some shots of Fixer to calm down these shakes. I'm gonna need at least ten shots to get me through the week. From there the Followers should be able to help.

You can give him 10 Fixers as he requested, or give him a motivational speech to get through it on his own. I don't have the latter option due to low Speech, but Science can provide a third option.

alex3.jpg
(Science 50) A combination of Fixer, Psyscho, and Buffout would do it in one shot.

jac.jpg
Never thought about using that combination before. Should be able to get through this with that.

I handed him over the drugs and he heads over to Old Mormon Fort to detox and rejoin the Followers. That's one down.

Random alley encounters...

vegas0396.jpg

There was a corpse in between two dumpsters.

alex3.jpg
Ooh, look. A body. I really should be going.

The thug leader went hostile and dispatched them handily with my 10mm.

vegas0397.jpg

That's Freeside for you.

vegas0398.jpg

When not drinking his ass off in the Atomic Wrangler, Bill Ronte is asleep in the abandoned ruins next door on a makeshift bed.

vegas0399.jpg

alex3.jpg
Julie Farkas sent me to help you sober up.

bill.jpg
Julie? Ah, I love Julie. She's such a nice lady. One time, I was working on the water pump and she came over, put her hand on my shoulder, and told me I was doing a great job. Great job she says! I just choked up and didn't say nothing. Compliments are so rare these days.

alex3.jpg
Well, you won't be seeing Dixon anymore.

bill.jpg
What the hell? Why? I need alcohol, man! I'm gonna die if I don't get a drink!

alex3.jpg
You need to kick the habit, Bill. I can help you.

bill.jpg
The only way you can help me now is a load of detox chems.

Once again, I used my Scientific knowledge to recommend a cheaper cure.

alex3.jpg
(Science 50) Regulating decreasing doses of booze with a couple shots of Fixers should do it.

bill.jpg
Man, you're one hell of an egghead. If you think it'll work, I'll give it a shot.

I returned to Old Mormon Fort to give her the good news.

julie.jpg
I saw them. Thank you so much for helping them. This means a lot to the Followers. You have our thanks. If you need medical supplies, come see me. We should be able to spare a stim or fixer once a day.

After completing that quest, I realized the true reason why I stopped over at Old Mormon Fort. It is this man.

vegas0400.jpg

alex3.jpg
What kind of research?

arc.jpg
Oh, you know. Finding alternative treatments for common illnesses and injuries. Stimpaks out of barrel cacti and other fantastic improbabilities. As far as fruitless wastes of time go, it's quite noble in its aims.

alex3.jpg
What's the goal?

arc.jpg
For the past hundred years of so, the Followers have managed to get by using salvaged medical supplies from the Old World. But the side effect of medical success is that more people live longer. Funny how that works. Eventually, we'll run out of hospitals to loot. We need new ways to produce those supplies. Or maybe old ways, if this research goes anywhere.

alex3.jpg
What kind of illnesses are you trying to deal with?

arc.jpg
Cuts, lacerations, broken bones. Infections resulting from all of the above. Common cold, influenza. Take your pick. There are plenty of ways to die out here, and most of them, surprisingly, don't have anything to do with war. Just common human fragility.

alex3.jpg
You don't sound too enthusiastic about it.

arc.jpg
I'm enthusiastic about helping people, but nihil novi sub sole.

alex3.jpg
Nihi-what?

arc.jpg
Oh. Sorry. "There is nothing new under the sun." If agave and mesquite were that miraculous, the locals would have figured it out a few thousand years ago.

alex3.jpg
Do you know about Caesar?

arc.jpg
I don't know anything that the others couldn't tell you. Caesar was one of the Followers. Before my time, of course. He wanted to rebuild the new world in the image of the old. A sad story of good intentions gone bad. In that regard, he's hardly unique. If you set aside his leadership capabilities, extensive knowledge, and ruthless cunning, he's just another jerk who steps on people to get his way.

alex3.jpg
Why do you do research instead of providing medical assistance?

arc.jpg
Not all followers are "people persons". Besides, someone needs to do research. I have no problems with Julie sticking me back here. Out of sight, out of mind. There are worse things one can be, though I do admit, it is a bit boring. Though it has a noble goal, I don't think this research will yield much fruit. No pun intended.

alex3.jpg
Why don't you come with me?

arc.jpg
You've helped the Followers, so you can't be entirely bad. To be honest, I haven't heard anyone say a negative word about you. As long as you keep working to help people around here get a fair shake, sure, I'll lend a hand.

Arcade Gannon gives the Better Healing perk. Stimpaks heal more when he's following you.

alex3.jpg
What's your opinion on the current situation?

arc.jpg
It could be better. If we can find a way to work toward the independence of New Vegas, that would be ideal. But really, as long as you don't help out the Legion, anything's better than that.

alex3.jpg
Tell me about yourself.

arc.jpg
I'm really very boring. You'd get better stories from a Freeside junkie.

alex3.jpg
You can do better than that.

arc.jpg
Oh, all right. I'm thirty-ish. Well, late thirty. I was born..west of here. I was an only child and spent most of my time with my mother. My father died when I was young and I never got over it. Oh...and I like medicine and reading books about failed Pre-War socioeconomic policies. Right now, I'm sure you're asking yourself, "Why hasn't some lucky man scooped this bachelor off his feet?" Like I said, I'm boring.

A lesbian Brotherhood Scribe, and a gay Fellowship Doctor. :(

alex3.jpg
Why don't you like talking about yourself?

arc.jpg
Some people do. I just...don't. Look, I appreciate that you're trying to be friendly, but I'd just rather not discuss it.

alex3.jpg
Where did you get your medical training?

arc.jpg
The followers taught me everything. Despite our humble abode here in New Vegas, we have great facilities back in the NCR. We may have over-extended ourselves by setting up camp in Freeside, but the people here need help from someone. If not us, who?

alex3.jpg
How did you join the Followers?

arc.jpg
Honestly, it isn't too difficult if you have half a brain and aren't a complete jerk. I wanted to help people and I enjoyed learning, so I signed up. New Vegas is in trouble, so I came out here. if someone doesn't step up and try to help the people here, it's going to end very badly.

alex3.jpg
Do you always deflect personal questions?

arc.jpg
Only to obfuscate my past association with a fascist paramilitary organization. I'm joking, of course. I will deflect personal questions at any opportunity.

Well. That's it, then. Arcade default weapon is a Plasma Defender. Top of the line plasma pistol. It's pretty good. The only way you can get him to equip something else, is to give him a Tri-Laser Rifle or Gauss Rifle. Both consumes too much Microfusion Cell per shot, so it's best to just let him use his default weapon.

Except Arcade is p likeable.
And his sidequest
adds a bit of white to the Enclave, doing a better job at it than Fallout 2 did, making it more grey.
