That they were developing shit games for whatever platform using whatever tech targeting whoever is irrelevant. People do what they must to pay the bills. Whether they might enjoy what they are doing or not is also irrelevant because the hard fact is that nobody in the industry is willing to fund an old school TB game so even if they were desperate to make that kind of game, they simply just couldn't. And they have some of the absolute best references ever. You can't go wrong with that kind of background.

Except they kind of did. The timing could be a coincidence for all we know. Then again, it might not and they sound more like faggots wallowing in nostalgia than people with a keen awareness of the industry and the state of CRPGs. I would expect their game to be a fucked up mix of modernisations and old school clunkiness.

Also: Romero. They probably should have kept quiet about his involvement.

I'm surprised they didn't tell more other than "oldschool rpg" but they are probably doing the same as Obsidian - spreading the info for the whole month. They seem to be getting pledges pretty well, already almost 22k dollarus.

Also who the hell told them that starting a kickstarter while another directly competing one is in progress is a good idea? Both games target almost the same market segment. Wouldn't it make more sense to wait a couple of months for the PE donation wave to pass and the potential customers to recieve their salary before jumping on the KS bandwagon?

The "get two for one" thing is a dealbreaker for me. Not necessarily for budget reasons, but because I would think it's hard for an indie studio to juggle two projects at the same time.

Also; you pronounce it idd software? I always called it ID, as in eye-dee. Dayum.

More than anything, we love games, love our people and believe in fun! We are incredibly dedicated to game design, game art, game audio and game programming. In fact, there are five members of our team who have done nothing but make games for over 30 years! We are both players and seasoned developers of RPGs. Among our favorite RPGs are Ultima™ IV, Chrono Trigger™, Chrono Cross™, Wizardry® VII: Crusaders of the Dark Savant, Planescape®: Torment™, World of Warcraft®, Diablo™, Ultima™ III, Beytrayal at Krondor™, Final Fantasy® VIII and Legend of Zelda®: Link to the Past™. Our team is experienced in RPG design and dedicated to making Old School RPG the best it can be.
So, are they making a game that will be a mix of all their favorite games? Because that would be something... extremely crappy :)

Exactly, it's why the game's have to be deep in development already, in which case be honest about it.

If anyone knows about juggling multiple projects and the development hell that can arise it's the founders of ion storm.

What's wrong, Codex? Did they not namedrop 90s games enough, or mention "oldschool" and "turn-based" often enough to get you in a pledging frenzy?

Or is it because Brenda is such an ugly skank compared to MCA and Fargo?

One of their favourite RPGs is Zelda: A Link To The Past.
They clearly included it to connect with an audience that might not be familiar with Wizardry 8 or Realms of Arkania. There are a million more important things to criticise.
I just sperg everytime someone mentions Zelda being a fucking RPG. Although I don't understand why they'd want that audience for an old school RPG. Whatever that means, I didn't really read through their presentation.

Saving grace of Anachronox is great writing, that almost makes up for terrible gameplay and overall design.
Anachronox Credits say - Screenwriter: Richard Zangrande Gaubert not Tom Hall.

I've found this whole pitch insulting, I had hard time watching it to the end. Also, it seems they're all mac fags.

It's kind of hard to take someone serious when they're pointing at their closet and saying "look at all the cool RPG's we have on there" and the first thing that sticks out is fucking Doom. And people called Obsidian's video half-assed

You know, after I take my morning dump tomorrow - you know the kind, the one that stinks the bathroom out for the rest of the day - I'm gonna launch a KickStarter campaign. I'm gonna call it "Let's KickStart Some Old School Shit". I'll name drop a few projects I worked on before ("DarkUnderlord, one of the original founding fathers of the Codex") and I'll list a couple of do points.
  • Epic world exploration.
  • Awesome combat system that gives you full control over your character.
  • Fucking magic, and it will work!
  • Fuck Yeah!
I'm only going to ask for $50,000, keep it small, but when I get my cash I'm gonna take that piece of shit I dumped, cut it up into smaller pieces and mail it out to all my backers in little baggies with a note attached "You wanted some Old School Shit? Open the bag and prepare to be amazed".

This smells of desperation. I prefer to kickstart things that will be released anyway due to the passion of their creators, helping them to afford things like better art assets. This game(s) doesn't even have a title. Or a theme.

Any cool RPGs that were done with only a few people in a short time that could prove that a decent game can be made with fewer resources?
