Tomb Raider created the absurd notion that tank controls could be applied to other games than those actually featuring tanks, such as adventure games like Grim Fandango and Escape from Monkey Island.
Are you serious? Do you really think that Tomb Raider invented tank controls in non-tank games? Its not even the first adventure game to have tank controls or the first game in 1996 to have them.
It is generally accepted that 3rd-person 3D games in the 90s had crap camera controls. For some reason I'm arguing with people who are defending that like the black eye they're nursing after talking with their spouse last night.
When I last played Tomb Raider, late last year, I did not have any of the issues with the camera you seem to have had. The only issue would be whenever Lara's pressed up against a wall, which wouldn't matter since I'm about to take a jump anyway. I can see everywhere I need to go, and while I occasionally screwed it up, it was because I misjudged it. The last time I played Tomb Raider before this was at least 10 years ago, so I didn't remember much. Frankly, you don't seem to be connecting the statements you're making. You aren't much for the very concept of the game, yet you feel the unbridled urge to call it an absolute piece of shit. Perhaps you aren't as smart as you'd like to think you are.

Pathfinder: Wrath
There is a tendency for the camera to focus on Lara and not the environment, which does lead to some strange camera behavior when pressed against walls and especially corners, but it really isn't a huge problem and can be fixed by using the look button.

They are actually patching egs version to be the same downgraded version as all the others. This with aspyr/saber leaving embracer does not bode well.
So the definitive version will be the original egs version, for now.
What is going with this game?
Edit:
For the legal owners, here is a patch that makes steam/gog into the egs version until a official patch comes along:

It ain't piracy since you need to own the game.

I know it's beating a dead horse but fucking hell it's weird seeing St Francis Folly and the Coliseum being outdoors. Perfect example of tech limitations accidentally making the devs create something better than they intended to.

Why would you think Tomb Raider inspired Grim Fandango to have tank controls, and not the vastly more popular Resident Evil? (which is also an adventure game, and also uses pre-rendering backgrounds with cinematic camera angles)

What the...

Why?

It must be that the level designers were trying to solve the issue of lighting in indoor areas without strong light sources being present everywhere. In doing so they've ended on the same slippery slope that ruined Anniversary, especially its interpretation of Palace Midas. They should be wearing shades that read "Too much realism = bad" on the lenses to remind them. Tomb Raider's always at its most atmospheric when you are literally underground, hermetically isolated.

Personally I find those "naturalistic" redesigns to be more aesthetically pleasing

Anyway, here's a short list of the most notable differences in the original EGS build:

Can you elaborate?
Sure; Toby Gard indicated during the Anniversary commentary that he always intended much of the game to be outdoors but wasn't able to display that with the technology of the PlayStation at the time, so it turns out that much of TR1's superb atmosphere was entirely accidental; the striking feeling of desolate, eerie loneliness was not what Gard had intended, but rather a result of the PlayStation's inability to render the sort of vistas and outdoor areas he wanted.

The result was that the original visuals lent the game an atmosphere of unnerving isolation - thanks to the lack of a skybox and a short draw distance, it appeared that the player was moving perpetually further underground, into areas that had been long since buried and completely untouched for millennia. In the original Coliseum for example you couldn't see anything above you other than dark murkiness, and if you did manage to climb high enough, you were only met with a crumbled stone roof. Working under the implication that you were underground, every step you took felt like you were further and further away from civilization and deeper into danger and loneliness.

Having it outdoors is so odd because it changes the atmosphere completely. Rather than being deep into a long-lost ruin and cut off from the outside world, you're now just... somewhere in the countryside of Greece, with the sun shining on your face. Lara could probably get a phone signal to call for help if she felt like it.

The area being buried also enhanced the feeling of the mystical lost knowledge of the Atlanteans; nobody's been here since those days and the Scion piece is completely forgotten to history. But with it being outside, the whole place must be well-known to anyone who's ever gone on a helicopter or looked at satellite imagery, and anyone could have wandered in at any time. But seemingly nobody except Lara and Pierre has bothered to do so over the last however-many-thousand years, despite the incredible amount of untouched history laying around the place.

They added and fixed a bunch of stuff in the last update. Also they included the injured Lara when she gets eaten by a T-rex

When are they going to replace the subpar SFX files in TR2?

No wait, I recall someone already tested the sound files and apparently they're fine, sound like the ones in the original PC version. So it's the game's sound engine that's adding compression to them.

Can anyone using the GOG versions confirm they've got the patch?

Bros, I'm not playing the remaster with those shitty new graphics and the messed up lightning. Is the Remaster at least a good, hassle free way to play the games with original graphics on modern PCs, or did they change or scew anything up in classic mode as well? Should I just go with the source ports instead? Price is a secondary consideration.
