Kingston and I were playing on Veteran. Melee characters seem to be at a massive disadvantage compared to ranged classes when you die in so few hits. Can't really kite from melee range. I'm playing a tank engineer right now, with the energy shield. I'm still trying to figure out whether I should just keep refreshing it when it runs out, or spend mana on shield bash to get charge on my meter. Shield Bash does honestly seem pretty useless. Healbot on the other hand, massively powerful and useful.

Is there a Codex approved game room name?

ETA: There's one called "Irapedyourdaughter cause I wanted to cause you pain", but the guy is much higher level.

Did they add level scaling to the campaign levels? My problem with the original is that you only needed to do a couple of side maps to make the rest of the campaign easy as fuck. I thought that was pretty stupid, particularly since they put a guy in town specifically for side maps, which i did as soon as they were available.

Heh, just dealt with exactly that while playing through the original for the first time (Pre-ordered on impulse last night, but I never bought the original due to the poor impression the demo left on me). I didn't notice the side map guy until I was almost to the three sisters and then ran through the three or four of'em that we're available up to that point. I think I actually two shot at least one of the sisters. I've only had one close call and one annoying as fuck boss fight (Cavern one, elemental wisp spam) up until this point (Level 23; only 16 potions used, heh), but the difficulty is picking up as even the trash mobs in the volcanic region are capable of three shotting me.

Really fucking wish that you weren't required to both navigate and target with the mouse, though. At least in D2 you were able to shift-fire to fire in a general direction, but in Torchlight, you need to worry about terrain height differences and the fact that shift-firing results in a shorter fucking range.

Ah well, it's been fun so far.

Oh, and:
The Torchlight II Beta will available for you to play until Thursday, May 24th at 4:00pm PDT.

Any of you fuckers up for some later?

Heh, ended up playing until 4:30am (Time of this post), but I should be up by noon my time (GMT -8).

I take it we'll be going hardcore elite? Veteran seemed pretty easy so far solo, but I went with an engineer and between the heal bot, 5x charge force fields, and stun locking most mobs with my auto attack, the only thing I have a problem with is high hp single targets. The gun bot really helped with that side, though.

I had a love/hate relationship with the side maps in TL1. On one hand, their mobs were a few level higher than yours and offered the challenge that the normal maps lacked, but on the other hand they gave so much XP that the main campaign became a breeze. That was some really shitty design right there.

If TL2 can fix their fucked up targeting issues from TL it'd be a huge step up. That was probably my biggest peeve as far as gameplay goes. I can deal with a "boring" game if I'm in coop but fuck that shit was annoying.
Annoying? More like infuriating. That and the silly loot system made me quit TL early.

I got into the TL2 beta (too bad it ends tomorrow). So far it seems pretty good.. Like TL1, but bigger and better. Like a sequel is supposed to be like. I dig the Embermage, so I'll probably play that when the game goes live. I won't have time to test out the other characters, but they don't interest me that much. I'm playing with the Storm build because I'm bored with standards Fire and Ice. Prismatic Bolt is fun, if a little weak and expensive. I'm dual wielding some wands that do a buttload of damage anyway so I mainly use them. Either the item drops are very generous or I'm lucky, but I keep finding Orange quality items. The pet seems more useful too. Seems to have more combat value here.

I definitely noticed that as well re:excessive drops. On one hand, it's not much of an issue thanks to the pet being able to sell, but it definitely cheapens whatever "good" item you find.

Game's going up in just a couple. Hardcore, elite; RPGCodex/declineof

Considering that I posted the info publicly... ;p

Been doing fairly well solo on an outlander...so far.

(Just crashed though, so game's down for another min or two)

Is there anyone here who found TL1 to be dreadfully boring and soul-less, is a fan of Diablo 1 and 2, and have played TL2 and would like to give their impressions?

I lack the wit to put something hilarious here
Beat the beta with an Outlander. Concentrated my skillpoints on passives and the skill that splits your arrow into three homing missiles on impact. Became a death machine at the end, as I had a powerful crossbow, combined with a really high crit chance and crit damage from passives, combined with the 3 x homing missile skill (so basically scoring crits with every shot). Cleared most mobs with one or two shots. The end boss was easy too. I didn't touch the glaive skills, you could probably make a build from those, or from the default super fast machinegunning skill. Anyways, fun game, will buy.

Hello. Torchlight 2 is a lot more fun than Torchlight 1. Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. Classes are a lot more interesting, the environments are varied, lots of different monsters and bosses and shit. Expands the game in all directions, exactly what a sequel should be. It's fun.

But I really didn't like TL1 so I'm wondering if it's different, not just TL1 but more. For example, you say TL2 is harder but what does that mean? Does that mean enemies hit harder and have more hitpoints? Or does that mean it requires more tactical thought to get past a pack of enemies? If the game is faster, does that mean that the game is harder by virtue of requiring more twitch skills?

Are the character skills still extremely boring?

Etc.

Skills are substantially improved. I recently was playing through TL1 (Still am, actually, but I got beta access last night so I've been playing TL2 since) and had many of the same complaints you did.

Encounter variety is a wee bit short in the beta, but someone else commented that that's due more to the fact that it's trimmed down version for the beta test. Still, the encounters that are currently in are better overall than TL1.

The three of us have been wiping on the tomb boss non stop, by the way, heh.

My Wifi router managed to commit suicide and later a new patch kept me out. Looks like the room is down, enough HC for today?

Ah, we're still in game.

Rehosting in 1min.

Edit: Game's back up, but I didn't get a patch upon relaunching the game. (?)

I got a download and then an install of something, quite sure of it. Also I can't see your game (possibly related?)

ETA: If you minimize, is your version 0.22.8.2?

0.21.8.1

Odd.

Edit: Just logged out again, and the patch is going through this time.

Game'll be up in a min.
