I think I understand the biodrone-style love of the Torment combat from the Kickstarter and Facebook backers.

It was easy and mindless. Therefore it was good.

So what would be "fair"? Going with the option that the developers didn't want and that lost the vote by a small margin?

Please heed the frustrations of the anti-TB community
I guess they're a community now?
Kind of like vegetarians are a community. Err.

No, I think these whiners are genuine in their plea for fairness and would have wanted it to go to a toss of the coin. If it had still come up turn-based they'd have accepted it with good graces and continued to support the game. Or not. The beauty of it is we'll never know :smug:.

Now over to more important questions: will there be hexes? Please tell us there'll be hexes InXile.

We don't even know if it will have a grid at all. Not having one could help appease those who voted RTwP due to concerns about "immersion".

Adam Heine ksaun Comments?

We're planning to first try no grid at all, but none of the options have been ruled out.

Come next week when we get our hands on the WL2 beta, we may find out Wasteland 2 combat ends up being horrible, but it will be too late then

Torment won't be taking the WL2 turn-based system wholesale. We'll certainly be paying attention to what people like and don't like from WL2's combat, but Torment has different needs anyway. We can use much of the foundation, but one shouldn't draw conclusions about Torment's combat from WL2's as we'll change quite a bit so that it's what's best for Torment. The experience the programmers have from developing WL2's system is what will be most beneficial.

Yeah that's what I meant with the foundations of it being based on WL2. I was however only joking and I have faith in the developer that comes to the codex to asks for ideas on how to make TB combat better (y)

I was going to comment on his video, but I feel like he doesn't really deserve comments from any partially capable human being on the planet. The only part worth saying anything about, I think, is:

"Oh, so the convention from PS:T on dialogue is okay, but combat no, we can't use that? We'll just pick and choose systems as we like." (pp.)

I love how he just completely ignores that's in fact how low-level design works. Y'know, as the support for the general concept of the game. Didn't realize you had to have specific subsets of mechanics that are only paired with specific mechanics themselves. Permutations? Fuck that noise. Ugh.

Smudboys entire argument against the implementation of turn based combat (when he can keep his own story straight), as taken from his Youtube comments, can be boiled essentially down to down to this. He has no problem with turn based combat so long as its sufficiently explained in the narrative. So all Inxile really has to do is issue some fluff and that will save old Smud 18 minutes of bellyaching and butthurt and also let him save his stock of the word "metaphysics" for another time.

YouTube always brings me back down to Earth with shit like this:

"Very happy I didn't back this. Turn based is crap, no tactics behind it what so ever when it comes to AI opponents. Find the strategy, use it every time, win. Wheres the fun in that? Real time with pause would have been better, immerse in it more. "

Finally, a Torment game with a proper combat system. Now there is a possibility for it to be a 10/10 game! :incline:

Seems to me that most of RTwP zealots just wanted a carbon copy of IE game and not necessarily a Torment experience.

After my reading of to many of those RtwP whiners, I'm starting to wonder: weren't we supposed to be the crazy ones?

Man those RTwP ragers are so stupid it boggles my mind. It's a fucking Torment game, combat is probably its least important aspect and you will probably be able to skip most of the encounters but no IT HAS TURNBASED ITS THE END OF THE WORLAGRHGAHHAHGHGRA. I'm 99% sure that if RTwP had won in the end the amount of butthurt and tears would have been many times less.

Also this shit: "This is just plain ridiculous - you cannot Alienate 50% of the players by these nuanced statistics alone!!". So if they went with RTwP they would have "alienated" the other 50% but I bet that guy would have been OK with it since it's the 50% he does not belong to

Did exposure to too many Bioware romances damage these guys' minds or something?
