Ah, New Vegas, probably one of the most reddit games to ever exist.
no
reddit -> fallout 3/4
4chan -> FNV
codex -> fallout 2
people with actual taste in good rpgs -> fallout 1
Codex is Fallout 1 > Fallout 2 by a large margin and everybody knows it. The "triggering" part needs to do just that - trigger, not to be random nonsense.

Not to mention the fact that people with actual good taste think Fallout Tactics >>>>> any other Fallout.

Fallout Tactics > Fallout 1> Fallout 2 is legit. Tactics, though not a pure RPG, was a much improved game.

Though to be fair, the proper order these days is:

Fallout 4 > Fallout 3 > Fallout New Vegas > Fallout Tactics > Fallout 1 > Fallout 2, leaving 76 out since it is a multiplayer online game.

Gauntlet Legends is a better Souls-like than Dark Souls.
- It's a real RPG: you choose your build at the beginning and you have to stick with that.

- It has real multiplayer.

- If you die you loose all your power-ups and also you have to pay real money to continue playing (without the powerups you have lost). Obviously there is no save game too: if you turn off the game machine everything is lost.

Dark Souls is a fake dark souls.

The greatest RPGs let you define your character's identity, therefore defining your sexual identity (e.g. pronouns and preferences) is a significant improvement for the genre and should be celebrated.
I agree that it is important to allow PCs to be mentally ill, but it should result in the character dying from suicide 41% of the time before the game starts.

  • Gothic 2 = Gothic 2
  • Gothic 3 = Open world Gothic 2
  • Risen = Gothic 2 colonial
  • Risen 2 = Pirate Gothic 2
  • Risen 3 = Pirate Gothic 2 2

I don't get the Fallout 2 hate.

You: -Fo3, 4 and NV are absolute garbage!
X: -good thing there's Fallout 2
You: Reeeeeee, players with good taste only play Fallout 1 to death ...

Sure, it's less focused but Fallout 2 is still more Fallout 1, how could any Fallout 1 fan complain about it?

Every games use 3D graphics. Even 2D graphics is created through 3D graphics models. So, who says that he prefers 2D to 3D graphics is an idiot.
Especially hand-drawn sprites and backgrounds
Who does use hand-drawn graphics today? You will be surprised to know how much "hand-drawn" graphics, even retro pixel art, is at its core created trough 3D rendered models, with few hand adjustments.
People who can draw is rare. People who can draw and program are even more rare. People who can use a 3D modeling and rendering software are much more frequent.

An example of using 3D modeling software to create 2D pixel graphics:

CRPGs suck and have always sucked. The only reason the subgenre even exists is because hardware limitations did not allow for a more active system to be used and because devs did not realize that certain pen and paper necessities are just nuisances when translated into video games.

Triggering enough?

And yet, Pong was the first console game (as far as i know).

Still, Asteroid and later Space Invaders were better games than any recent FPS.
Ghouls'n Ghosts was way better than any 3D action RPG game game.

He's right, you know. This was even true of Fallout character models, and IE zone backgrounds. Definitely true of Arcanum's drab sprites.

Fallout 4 Enhanced Edition, which is essentially Fallout 4 with the Horizon mod plus a few hundred other mods, is a pretty good action RPG. Your stats and skills MATTER (i.e. you can't just rely on your mouse skills, because you will die a fast death), fatigue (reduces your AP) and radiation (reduces your health) are done very well, VATS is replaced by VAFS which is essentially a slow-mo bullet time for a few seconds, loads of interesting perks to choose from on level up, combat is actually really good (loads of weapon and armour modifications), and the quests so far (50 hours in) are diverse and interesting (not all, there are some recycled quests especially if you proceed with the settlement quests).

Disclaimer: I haven't played vanilla Fallout 4.

I didn't post this to rustle anyone's jimmies, but so that if someone enjoys action RPGs I highly recommend the Enhanced Edition, or at least the Horizon mod.
