I know people who did the same. This is just an impression I have, nothing based on extensive data. It was the first (and only one so far) CRPG from the "Kickstarter Renaissance" to get its sequel funded through Kickstarter. Once we have more examples, it'll be easier to draw comparisons.
Still, I just thought 20k backers was very low, considering the game's sales.

Well, the DOS2 campaign had 42,713 backers, 20k was the first one. But yes, it's hard to compare the two in this case as the first campaign was pretty low-key and they weren't as well known then.

Well Divinity Original Sin had "combos" in some sense, and everybody loved it. Its really about how they implent it, and its way too early to judge it based on what we know (nothing)

True but D:OS was turnbased. Most srpgs like disgaea have combos too - yet they are turnbased. I imagine it to be quite chaotic to do in RtwP but of course I'm speculating - maybe they manage to pull it off :)

Didn't DA:O have RtwP combos too? Like casting an ice spell and a storm spell thus creating an ice storm? Or am I making that up, its been a while.

Now that you mention it - yes, I think it actually had combos, I completely forgot that

But I didn't like DA:O's combat so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You are correct. Only one I recall using was a sleep > fear thing. Made them have a nightmare, did some damage and extended the incapacitate IIRC. There was also freeze > hit with a crit, which did extra damage I assume.

The combo system was pretty shallow though from what i remember. And combat was not challenging enough that it would matter if i used combo spells or not.

I don't think that's the same kind of combo. This sounds like more like a Chrono Trigger-type thing where two specific characters interact with each other to create a unique effect, which means they have to be in position etc.

All the DAs have combos, yes.

It's going to be the same deal here.

I'm reluctant. I'd like to say I'm passively optimistic. Obsidian's games often sound
promising on paper. And while I'm glad they exist and stay afloat, there still has
to be a game by them, that I actually enjoy, instead of wanting to like.
Maybe I'm just too old for this shit. Having played the gold box games on
a C-64 and being called a 'filthy casual' on the Underrail forums. I could just
call it a day. Or I could bash in some heads of insufferable morons with that
C-64 in a drunken rage. I'm way to sober anyway these days.

Positioning in RtwP tho :deadtroll:

They'll very likely move into position on their own when you click the ability.

"But pathfinding--" you might say. This is what DAII-style "teleporting" is for.

Y'all are just guessing now.

But it does go to show you how lame these "professional" previews are. They could have explained this.

The combos will probably be powerful abilities that just require to target the ally or that they are inside a generous radius when the ability is used. For instance the one they talk about is just a PBAoE that makes that one companion do a ranged AoE attack.

Remember game is made for tards. It won't require precise coordination or figuring out dynamic combos.

Either the combos will be useless and not worth the hassle or their abuse will be mandatory to complete "Nightmare" difficulty without painfuly grinding your teeth to dust. I highly doubt they will manage to Balance them so they'll be somewhere in the middle

Feargus will NEVER, under any circumstance EVER allow Obsidian to fund and develop a turn based game, they just don't sell.

In this case however, it is being funded by Paradox. Apparently they were fine with RTwP.

Are you fucking retarded? Larian sold more copies than POE. Torment will sell more copies than PT (project tranny).
Additionally, I believe that a simple fucking FO2 ripoff would outsell both POE and DOS put together... Retards only retards everywhere...

The combos were just something they threw in to justify the ridiculous health pools. DA combat is boring.

I think they will just be big buttons, like a daily or long cooldown ability.

Speaking of which, is there any hint what this game use? Hope it's cooldowns, my favourite part of playing Codex 2015* GOTY is alt+tabbing to check alerts while I wait for stuff to come off cooldown.

I think Tyranny's combat is shaping up to be combining the best of DAII and PoE.

Clearly we need more megathreads.

Here's the relevant info:

Skills are on a cooldown, so there are no replenishing mana bars, and players can craft spells, or utilize different types of armaments thanks to the class-less system. Something new Tyranny introduces, is teaming up with a companion for a unique skill accessible by their teamwork. The one shown involved Kade, the main character, throwing up his archer partner into the air to strike targets from afar.
