I tried shiv on my versatility build. It wasn't as good as in Sheepherder's experience, but I was able to kill some lightly armored people.

Claw build is way more fun, I reckon

The entire natives's subplot is a big brainfart: firearms versus spears, shock trooper armor versus shorts made of leaves, modern military versus tribals.

But hey, we got pirates therefore everything is fine.

My 2 cents:

It's a design+balance dillema.
Making the conflict realistic, would turn the timed missions to defend the base, a cakewalk, your allies would erase the whole tribe, including the poor invaders that thought they had a chance of winning. Which is a problem - Expeditions is a late game DLC, if it is not (at the very least) as challenging as the base game, it would be super boring.
If you're going to give them (the tribals) guns to burst fire your teammates, you might as well remove the tribe entirely, as it doesn't fit the faction.
Does it make sense that your enemies won't pick up loaded guns from dead bodies? Absolutely not. But that would turn heavily armed allies into VIPs you must protect at all cost, and this is annoying. These quests would feel kind of like doing escort missions in video games (Escort Mission - TV Tropes).

It was decent in depA. In the central area, the one with a bunch of mutants and acid dogs, I used grenades to lure them back and forth, while picking off stragglers.

The selection is completly random, so it may take a lot of refreshes to get what you want.

No, waterways has the best small and medium engine (grinder 350 and 450), but the best heavy engine (hauler 600) is only available from Ray as far as I'm aware.

There is no large engine in Waterways, only the BArm Grinder L450 (medium) and the BArm Grinder 350 (small).

Tygrende if there were a 650 engine, the Shark would ascend to best jet in the game (my tastes) hands down.

Ray definitely sells them, the BArm Hauler 600. I own three or four. Sometimes it'll be many refreshes before he stocks them; sometimes he stocks them several refreshes in a row.

Boulder and Squeezer sell the XG Mist, sometimes even two at once, one of the best suspensions in the game.

I'm not sure what you mean by +50s. Point is, they supposedly can spawn with pretty much any part, and since NPCs only have small/medium jets available, that means you can get any part of that size from them. Personally the best I ever got was the best (18%) medium suspension from pirates. Someone reported getting grinder engines from them, but that I can't confirm.

The Grinder engines have +50 power compared to their next most powerful counterparts.

Not that it really matters all that much, mind you. The Protectorate Cruiser and Aegis Patroller can equip both of the Grinder engines and the Furnace battery, so you can supe them up the most. The Protectorate Cruiser's durability was nerfed from 375 to 300 at some point, so it went from an equitable side grade of the Cruiser (a bit less HP, a bit more speed and durability) to a clear downgrade.

I don't know why this was done, but I imagine it's because the player can receive one for free without actually stealing it (or, if stolen, Aegis entirely eliminated and unable to give the player a hard time).

Apparantely they are in the process of upgrading their engine, so actual development has barely started... I'd say 1-2 year from now if not more.
