Also bots are so bad and slow at putting down floor compared to largest player brush size. Or maybe I got too used to long reach mod.
Large brush + driving in your car.

Skill issue.

Also this is where that vehicle snap mod I mentioned comes in handy, makes it easy to drive down 2 belt lanes or bigger.

Deconstructing my base. It has served its purpose of creating me a robotic army. I'm going to move the smelters outside of the base and keep the internal area for manufacturing using my brand-new fleet of robots.

Some beltless mining and smelting to get rid of the remaining ore in my base.

Setting up smelting areas.

The electric furnaces and turrets are eating up quite a bit of power. Solar panels are doing the job fine so far, but they require a lot of space. Maybe this is a good opportunity to look into Uranium. The last time I had a relatively large base, Uranium wasn't introduced to the game yet; so that production chain is new to me.

Whenever I go for early robots I regret it, they are agonizingly slow before you get a bunch of repeatables to boost their movement.

Mhh, I think it's time to start looking at some designs because this shit looks ugly, but it's functional.

Slowly building up my production again. Love seeing the little robots buzz about. It's like watching ants do their thing. Just listening to some chill tunes and watching stuff happen.

Solar power. Currently at 180MW power generation with 3k solar panels built. The majority of it is being used to fuel my robot fleet. Around 1800 logistic bots zipping about, numbers rising.

100% bot bases are so boring and ugly.
My base is ugly for sure, but out of the chaos a certain beauty starts to emerge. Robots don't care for aesthetics... but it's starting to get hard to see due to all the "noise". Currently at 3k logistic bots being active. If it gets to a point where I'll not be able to see my base anymore I might reconsider, but for now it's fun.

Man builds hordes of robot before building a 20 wagon heavy caliber artillery train and an army of spidertrons to purge the land of filthy xenos. :decline:

Both of these weren't in the game the last time I played. I'm definitely excited to try out the Spidertron soon™ though.

Power armor with personal lasers makes clearing Biter nests a breeze.

Where the fuck are your trains?
Don't tell me you're playing the premier autism simulator and you aren't even using trains.

I never learned how to build decent train networks, so I'm avoiding it for as long as I can right now. Currently belting ore to my smelters, which is fine for now but once my current patches run dry trains will become a necessity.

It's not terribly complicated, trial and error will get you there. You look like you could use the increased throughput anyways, that smelter setup looks tiny for what you have.

A simple two station bidirectional train with no signalling does wonders. The throughput of a train track is close to infinite.

I already built a second set of iron smelters, it's fine for now but you're right, I will need more throughput soon and not really a fan of spamming a third belt all over the map. Trains will come soon™ too. I'm currently clearing out Biters to claim more oil and copper. Going to belt/pipe them back to my base for now :P

Starting to look at reddit a bit for ideas. Haven't done that since I started this playthrough. My only knowledge comes from what I learned playing Factorio in 2016-2017, when I was watching tutorials and let's plays and being on reddit. But many of the concepts today, like the mall and city block and whathaveyou, didn't exist back then or at least I don't remember them. It's interesting to see how the community evolved over the years and of course seeing all the great additions to the game. Even an awesome space DLC is coming out very soon! Factorio is truly a great game and one of the shining products of the digital distribution model, which allows devs to work on a game for years instead of shipping it on CD once and being done with it.

Despite what people on the codex like to say, gaming is in an incredible state for exactly this reason. It truly is the golden age of gaming, and I really do believe that, go to hell boomers.

One thing of note is that a lot of these "my first base" posts on reddit use community designs. I have to wonder why people are doing the same things instead of figuring it out for themselves. Even now I'm not trying to burn any of the designs I see into my mind and instead just see if I can trigger some ideas of my own for my base. Except for super autistic problems like balancing 4 or even 8 belts, can't be arsed to figure that out.

Like this guy who says this is his first base after 50 hours.

hows-this-50-hours-in-v0-s4w3220jjced1.png

Now, I don't know if he's lying or what but I'm at 40 hours right now and you'd have to play by routine to be able to build this in 50 hours. But I think a lot of these people on reddit are full of shit too.

Factorio is really a game that you can play however you want. I think the community is partly to blame because they will try to tell you what you should do instead. I don't think there is a right or wrong way to play a game. Sure, there is an optimal way to build your factory but for crying out loud it's a game not a job at NASA.

If I wanted to I could beat the game without laying a single piece of rail. Or only use steam engines for power, or whatever. Heck, maybe I'll go trainless just to piss some people off.

Not when it's a single bidirectional train on a single-sided track, then it's pretty limited. Still higher than belt though.

Two-sided tracks with proper intersections and stations have effectively infinite throughput though, the actual limiter is how many inserters you can fit around the train wagons.

Killed all the Biters in the area and tapped into the black gold.

I want to take a moment and consider what my plans for my base are. One thing I want to do is continue staying as beltless as possible. I will probably have to create separate bot networks and not have everything lumped in together because it gets horribly messy on screen.

I'll also probably restructure my design. I don't think there's a reason to have 4 assemblers per chest. The overhead should be the same as having 1 chest per assembler, and it allows me to make it prettier and not look so messy.

Next is getting my science back up. I haven't bothered with research since scrapping my original base.

After that, I think I'm going to go for Uranium just to play around with the "new" resource.

Spidertrons and artillery sound fun but I'm only going to build them when necessary. I have a feeling that as evolution progresses and the first Behemoth Biters start showing up, I'll be needing everything at my disposal. Evolution is at 0.86 at the moment.
