I don't understand... The guy ridiculed in his video "vampire romances" and all "major stuff" current gen "rpgs" have and still there is a large demand for that kind of stuff on Wasteland forums. I don't get it. Haven't those people watch his video before pledging? Hopefully he won't cater to that "audience". Man I want good gameplay, interesting locations to explore, good c&c and dialogue, I don't want stupid romances and shit. Every current game has it, why don't they go play them instead and leave us with a glimmer of hope, that we too, can play something we like... I mean, I can't tolerate "romances" like in Fallout 2, which are very low key, and completely optional, but still I prefer Fallout 1 with much less silly shit. Hopefully he knows what he's doing.

I'm sure a lot of people didn't watch the video. I'm also sure a lot of Mass Effect era Biowarians see 'RPG' and think it'll be the same thing they're use to just because they heard about it on twitter.

Well, there is some degree of nuance here. Some of these people are "oldschool Biowarians" who want a return to the norms of Baldur's Gate 2. They just think Mass Effect has gone too far.
Which is a defensible position to hold, but it's not what Wasteland is about.

Its better that those threads are locked. There was no purpose to them anyway after first dozen pages.
But they could have just retarded codex thread...

Anyway, neither tactics or JA will go in as complete systems but apart from hoping they will make something even better and thus better to play, i hope they will take on at least some aspects of those systems.
So its good to talk about them.
And im pretty sure we are not going to twist anyone in inXile team to turn the whole game into tactical combat game and downgrade other aspects.

-edit-
well, good move by twinkie i think.

Dude, nobody here wants to turn Wasteland into tactical combat game. I want an RPG as all of us here do. I just find JA2 combat, as a turn-based combat, very fun. So it would be good to suggest it when the time comes, if they are looking to improve Fallout combat they are trying to put into Wasteland. Because I think it has some good ideas they could implement.

Since when can user delete their threads and most importantly why can they do that? Codex starts to alienate me...
Dunno but I can un-delete it. Bring it back to life.

Somebody should suggest them to play Fallout and see what it's all about (so they can remove their baldur's gate fantasies from the project, because this is not it, thy should start their own kickstarter or something). I think normal people respond well to Fallout 1, from my experience... And if they don't like it, they can fuck off.

Wasteland 1 had a bunch of silliness, I wouldn't expect WL2 to be Fallout 1.5

This thread, started by TwinkieGorilla, has been deleted. Deleted by TwinkieGorilla, Today at 1:14 AM, Reason: eh.
Mystery solved.
Thanks Zed! At least we know Twinkie deleted it. I don't see a reason why he would do that, but at least we have some info.

I stopped reading at page 12. Anthony Davis used the Occupy Wall Street movement where a guy took a dump on a police car as an example of how not to do things on WL2' forum, and people were derailing the thread into political discussion. Here's his last post from page 12, slightly paraphrased:

FUCKING STOP, FFS

But here's the deal - in one important way, Baldur's Gate is more similar to Wasteland 2 than Fallout. Full-party control.

The only thing that makes sense is that twinkie was abducted by aliens and was forced to delete the thread by a dog-faced emu from Zeta Reticuli B. It's annoying because I was just about to read VD's post about his opinion on this whole thing. Amazingly I've never actually played Jagged Alliance. Just downloaded it. This JA2 combat influence on W2 has got me scratching my shrunken head. Looks like I'm going to have a whole lot of turn-based ass kicking in my near future. How long does it take to finish the game? BTW I resemble that remark about BG2. Except that I have no interest in making W2 anything like BG2. Well maybe except for the flexibility of rolled characters + joinable NPCs. I hate literally everthing else biowhore has ever done, but I do love that game. But then I like some other games that the codex disapproves of like Arx Fatalis and Ultima Underworld.

Thats what i said.
That last line was only meant to mean that there should be no worries about designing a good TB system lowering the quality of the rest of the game.

 Do it!
it was his idea about righteousness of trolling anyway.

:what:
The Codex disapproves of Ultima Underworld?

There is quite a few people here that like BG especially the second quite a lot. Codex hive mind is a fickle beast. Many sections are still quite independent :)

We'll need an official confirmation for this. This would be a quite bad way for inXile to start this whole thing: having threads deleted on third-party sites because they don't agree with what people are saying.

Haha, are you for real? Hahaha.

I'd bring it back if I were a mod. Having a single user capable of deleting entire threads because he created them seems bad. Why does XenForo allow that?

I still think the thread itself was a bad idea. But I was not involved in its deletion. His deleting it did mean InXile devs never got to see it though. I'm sure they'd like to.

PS: the last three pages of the WL2 mod log is now all me raging through a lot of threads. Boy there was some stupid shit in there. Locked a lot of it, deleted some, moved some to a new Retardo-land esque forum (it's hidden, tho, but can restore later). I encourage y'all to use the report button when you spot stuff. I'm still a ways behind.

Yep. You are. And so is every other single person who decided to back this because they saw something on a blog with the words "Fallout" and didn't bother researching any further. Your own stupid fault.

What, so my money isnt as good as yours? Not my fault I was born in 82. I played wasteland when I was like 12, and by then, it was a throwback already. Gameplay mechanics and ingame storys have advanced plenty since then, and I in no way expect an 8 bit game with little dialogue. I like to roleplay a main character. Always have. And if you think you are signing up for an exact rehash of wasteland, its your own stupid fault. Even Fargo says the team is learning towards isometric on twitter. Does that mean they are betraying what wasteland was?

As far as im concerned, the kickstarter response is due to an entire legion of gamers feeling like they havent been served by the publishers in regards to RPGs and turn based squad games in general, not the niche of people who had access to a commodore for games in 1988.
Oh god, the fucking pain. Maybe it's for the better that the thread disappeared.

Make the Codex Great Again!
So I decided to take off my nostalgia glasses and sit down for a (more) proper playthrough of Wasteland. Gave it a run for an hour or so, and some familiar memories of it started to come back to me. It's been over 10 years since I played it. Anyway, what the hell, I can't believe people would actually want to change the game mechanics of this. I'm having more fun with this in an hour than I did with The Witcher 2 (which I also enjoyed btw). Even with nostalgia glasses off, this game needs fuck all when it comes to all the new conventions like bromances and LGBT. You see farmers toiling under the hot sun. Punks ambushing you. Etc etc. I cannot for the life of me figure out why this game would need plot cliches like romances in order to be "modern". What the hell. Why change something that's not broken?

I advocate for improvements to the interface. Adapt it to modern technology, like the mouse wheel. Customizable controls will be nice so we can map hot keys to our desires. Give the game's interface a more polished sheen, give us a message history log. Make the dialogues more than just a few lines and "Read Page 84 Paragraph 4". But for crying out loud, Wasteland does most things in an RPG right, that most self-proclaimed RPGs today don't. I didn't like its combat when I first played it, but having gotten the hang of the hot keys now, I'm having a blast, and creating stories for my characters as they move along. They don't need to explicate "LOOK AT ME I'M GAY". Angela Deth is a lesbian who's always grouchy, but she can work a tough door for the team when she needs to. I don't need her to tell me that. Why do I?

Jesus. People who keep asking for romances and housing and whatever they consider to be modern gaming conventions really need to play Wasteland again. M:

Again? are you serious? 99% of people in wasteland forums never played the original and a good 60-70% of codexians too. what are you babling about?

As for the romances, just like the rest of the codex I stand by your side!

Then I stand corrected. I thought most here would have at least played a bit of it.

I really thought they'd have trouble reaching the initial goal, I couldn't be happier that I was proven wrong :)
