"I'm Desert Ranger and this is my favorite shrine in the wasteland."

It'd be funny if the other shrines were all grandiose and opulent, but the Codex one would be all crappy and filthy. And of course the troll statue itself should be small enough that when it comes alive, it will bite your knee (or hump it if you named one of your characters Avellone).

They've got almost 700k in a little over a day. Looks like this one's in the bag.

It seems 900k will be achieved. Now let's hope it gets to 1.5M, in order for them to make the game even bigger. :incline:

Brian Fargo said:
But we’re looking ahead to what we can do if you all back this project in force. At $1.25 million, the money will go primarily into making the world bigger, adding more maps, more divergent stories and even more music.

At $1.5 million, the world gets even bigger. You’ll have more adventures to play, more challenges to deal with, and a greater level of complexity to the entire storyline. We’ll add more environments, story elements, and characters to make the rich world come alive even more. We will even be able to bring Wasteland 2 to OS X for Mac lovers. And after $1.5 million the sky is the limit.

Possibility of open source code (not data dweebs)?

I don't want a repetition of ToEE or Prelude of Darkness thank you.

I really like the implications of this initiative. I feel that even I must contribute, if something is to change regarding the status quo of the "gaming industry".

Alright, now that the project reached its stated goal, I can now return to being a flippant and pessimistic skeptic..not enough to merit a thread entirely on its own, but I've chanced on some contrarian perspective on the whole endeavor, which some of your might already considered yourselves, being erudite adherents to reasonable doubts, amidst all the excitement.

I am not trying to shit on the parade or even cast unfounded aspersions on what could otherwise be a start of something quality, but do you guys really trust Fargo and co. to achieve the now stratospheric expectations? I already donated to the cause and all, so not just attempt to troll, but I suddenly remembered Tim Cain in his GDC address describing literally begging Fargo and Interplay powers that be not to cancel Fallout in the first place, and left the company altogether not long after...call me a doubting killjoy, and indeed fan involvement and contributions of idea could turn this into what is deserving of the namesake, but this is some huge vote of confidence there for what doesn't amount to much in terms of track record, or what there is, of glories some thirty years ago.

Cool story bro. Attention whoring too much? We know that maybe this shit is not going to meet expectations, that's a very real possibility. You are just stating the obvious. But hey, if you are craving for attention, who am I to shit on your parade?

Sure you're not a Cleve alt? All your post lacked was how Fargo and co. wanted to insert purple dongs everywhere. I'm not expecting hookers and blow to be delivered to my doorstep for 900k, but a fairly bugfree CRPG with an engine hopefully approximately on the level of ToEE with less bugs. Provided they don't recycle the shitty newer BT engine or go with Obsidian's DS3 engine, that just might happen. You call Fargo a Nigerian e-mail scammer because his company has made iPhone games for the last decade? What?

Eventually I decided to go for the cheapskate option and chipped in with $15. I was tempted for the longest while to go for $75 for beta access and the physical goodies, but the $15 shipping on top was kind of a turn-off for me. :declineofulminati:

I'll probably chip in on our community effort to have a statue if those aren't sold out/our drive ended by the time my next paycheck ticks in.

Codex 2014 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy
I saw an article about Wasteland 2 posted by an Icelandic e-zine today, and I need some quick fact-confirmations before I tear them a new one for their apparent stupidity.

# Was Wasteland the first "sandbox" game to be ever released? (I would think NO because of Elite.)

# Is Wasteland as popular today, or even more popular, then it was during release, or in the subsequent years of its release? (I would say it's not popular at all today, but it's remembered for some new "innovashuns" in design and gameplay, but I'd like to hear people's opinions on this.)

# For the development of which title did Brian Fargo found InXile? (They say Wasteland 2, I would say The Bard's Tale.)

# Wasteland can be obtained for free and legally through an abandonware site. (!!!)

I have to admit, I admire this forum for out-edgying the Codex.

I wonder how much in total they'll get.
