--do you guys really trust Fargo and co. to achieve the now stratospheric expectations? I already donated to the cause and all, so not just attempt to troll, but I suddenly remembered Tim Cain in his GDC address describing literally begging Fargo and Interplay powers that be not to cancel Fallout in the first place, and left the company altogether not long after...--

Expectations? None. Probably will be a disappointment. This is just about making a stand. The champion isn't the perfect choice, but he is the first who rose up.

Now, regarding Cain on GDC... You do have to recall that Fargo also gave valuable feedback (playing the game on weekends, on his spare time) that influenced the development of the game. From management point of view, the whole project was an utter train wreck. There are many things you can hold against Fargo, but almost cancelling Fallout is certainly not one of them.

I'm still sad there wasn't any butthurt backlash by that "LGBTQ" gamer community about Dethmold in Witcher 2.

Alright, now that the project reached its stated goal, I can now return to being a flippant and pessimistic skeptic..not enough to merit a thread entirely on its own, but I've chanced on some contrarian perspective on the whole endeavor, which some of your might already considered yourselves, being erudite adherents to reasonable doubts, amidst all the excitement.

I am not trying to shit on the parade or even cast unfounded aspersions on what could otherwise be a start of something quality, but do you guys really trust Fargo and co. to achieve the now stratospheric expectations? I already donated to the cause and all, so not just attempt to troll, but I suddenly remembered Tim Cain in his GDC address describing literally begging Fargo and Interplay powers that be not to cancel Fallout in the first place, and left the company altogether not long after...call me a doubting killjoy, and indeed fan involvement and contributions of idea could turn this into what is deserving of the namesake, but this is some huge vote of confidence there for what doesn't amount to much in terms of track record, or what there is, of glories some thirty years ago.

I have to admit, I admire this forum for out-edgying the Codex.

And then you open their ME3 thread...

So, biodrones/bethestards trying to indoctrinate Fargo? FFS, can't they leave the poor guy alone and go back to whatever pit they came from?

Well he gets brutally killed in at least two of the endings. :smug:

Yeah, and I expected huge amount of butthurt from LGBTQ community because in that scene it's revealed that the most bastardly asshole character in the entire game is gay.

No such huge butthurt backlash came. Which is kinda disappointing.

That's pretty much what I wanted to say. When Witcher 2 comes to xbox I can guarantee that there will be drama about this.

Gay romances is a small price to pay to have a party-based turn based Wasteland 2 game in these days, but I still hope the damn LGBEATHQ community gets the fuck out of this one. Fallout didn't have "romances" per say, it had sex and sexual advances. In a post-apocalyptic world, I hope they don't include stupid romance options with your party members.

I've heard that Hamburger Helper is joining their team as romance writing expert. 8-man team gives her so many options. Straight, gay, tranny, obese tranny, straight but likes to suck cock (like Shepard), nymphomaniac granny, shy biotard virgin in ONE team. This will be glorious.

Edit: forgot about gimps and midgets. :< Team needs to be 10 man.

Hello everyone!!

First of all I would like to start re-emphasising that, as well as it is true that these marvelous game project appears as the sequel of the classic Wasteland, and probably it will receive most of the influences from that masterpiece, it is also probable that the final title for the kick-starter campaign has much to do with the acquisition of the FALLOUT license by Bethesda in 2008. I think that there are plenty of evidences that Brian Fargo would have liked to continue the Fallout series as it was his own personal project and a direct evolution from Wasteland which, unfortunately as you might know, had a lot of financial difficulties and finally make the great artistic go their separate ways.

What I really mean is that recognizing that this is called Wasteland 2, and the original one had a lot of great things that can be totally translated to our days, I consider that we cannot lost this great opportunity to establish synergies, as far as the copyrights allow, with his fellow brothers Fallout 1&2. We have to see this project as very unique chance to develop the turn RPG we have dream during so long...a worth successor as what we may would want to be Fallout 3. Think about those frustrating and uncertain days of Interplay, Troika, Project Van Buren... Even Chris Avellanone has made his 10.000$ donation to make a complex and memorable successor for this postnuclear RPG world, not limited by the sells or the main industry financing. Do you see it as a mere coincidence the team Fargo is recruiting for the project? It doesn't seems random for example that they are going to have the same music composer as Fallout 1 and 2.

In conclusion I consider that this has to be the greatest and deepest RPG which has been ever made so I couldn't disagree more about cutting or limiting such likely options like having any kind of love relation with any npg (girl, boy, transexual, mutie...) or buying a little house or shelter where to have a break with your team party.

And please be serious and stop acting like your beloved casual gamers... You totally look like those Call of Dutyhormoned teens who can't stand seeing any kind of pacific and civilized relation next to his sweaty machineguns!! This game has to highly represent real life, it's not all just going around blowing heads...

Anybody in this topic has really proposed to have any Bioware or The Sims mechanics or technology into the game? We have just want to have the possibility in the game , if you know and look for the right place and moment (or you just catch it on the fly), to have sex, marry or any other funny surprises provided by the brilliant scriptwriters. I will clarify it one more time for the stubborns, this is not a petition to implant any social simulator or to bring our digital girlfriend with our party on the dessert. This is all about having"spicy" moments (or twinks to the playfull user all we have) during our adventures which means that, assuming the comprehensible graphic limitations, probably they won't go beyond the old but rewarding way consisting of funny (nasty) smart conversations and accurated descriptions. Just compare it to the anecdotical but memorable potential marriages in Fallout 2 (even homosexual) or the legendary option make your name in the porn circuit.

Waiting to continue this conversation in a more constructive (and friendly) tone.

Regards and see (read) you (all) soon

Who the hell is he? I finished that game and never saw him. I guess he's on Roche's route only, and I went with elf/Triss line.

He is the mage advisor of King Henselt of Kaedwen. His role is quite minor if you take Iorveth path. He gets executed in that path I think too. Probably one of the most disgusting persons in the whole series.

Fortunately Fargo has no obligation to listen to any of this shit. I think he knows well what game he wants to make, and while he may listen to some suggetions (and some even might be good), the final product will be made according to Fargo's vision.

On another note: how fucking foreveralone do the Biodrones have to be if the first thing they think about in a new game is "will there be romances"?

It's not really dubious, it is illegal. That said, it's the only way to get a lot of games, and, well, screw companies like Lucasarts and EA that horde their back catalogue and refuse to make them available.

It's illegal, but no one will come after you because no one cares anymore. So it's like semi-legal.

It's fine for all practical purposes, but it's technically illegal. Copyrights in most countries do not lapse for quite a long time, even without any action from the creator. This is the reason why you'll never hear anyone singing "Happy birthday" on TV -- the song is actually still under copyright, but nobody really knows how to track down the person that wrote it, so it's stuck in limbo and is unusable. It's one of the stupider things about copyright law, especially as it pertains to games, considering how quickly systems become obsolete.

Legality depends on country laws in one country it can be legal, and it can be illegal in another, no?
