Well - being better than vanilla Oblivion isn't much of an achievement, but I will admit to really liking Shivering Isles as well. :)
Good point xD Shivering Isles definitely went above and beyond though

sleeping dogs. best gta ever. a beautiful city to drive through, a plot taken from "infernal affairs" and a decent combat system (batman-lite but faster).

xcox + enemy within + long war mod: it's dragging for exaggerately too long, just too long, but the amount of stuff to equip the soldiers with is staggering.

shadowrun returns + shadowrun unlimited mod: unlimited shit. it should be more sandboxy, actually the missions are few and always exactly the same, i killed the same person in the same place like 5 times in a row. i hoped it'd have turned out something along the lines of decker (speaking of which: where can i find an already compiled version?).

Playing through Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine and some Dawn of War games with a friend, desperately trying to get into the 40k universe. I may read some books also. Beyond the setting though, Space Marine is an excellent game and Dawn of War is the only RTS I've been able to enjoy. Also playing through Dead Man's Switch in Shadowrun Returns and enjoying that decently. Gonna start Divinity: Original Sin once I beat either Space Marine or Dead Man's Switch, whatever comes first.

Finished Planescape Torment for second time. Pimped with modding guide work way better than first time. Kinda screwed ending cause no bodies appeared. Welp. Reaching last location decided to use Tome of Cheats, pimp myself and use all these delicious spells from Level 5-9 that I never used before. specially orbital/portal bombardment.

Stalker: Lost Alpha get borked for some reason->uninstalled. Still can't believe modders wanted to deal with GSC and sell it on Steam, for money.

Still two weeks before potato release of D:OS, so maybe it's good idea to play some Deus Ex mods. I'm in the middle of Redsun 2020, quite fun but not that good like The Nameless Mod or Nihilum, or even Mutations.
Lot of '90 gaming and IT jokes. Plus bug hunting for BSoD messages on monitors.

Yep. It's awful. Read my LP. Don't let my sacrifice be in vain. Please.

I thought Shivering Isles' world was fascinating and the quests overall were roughly 500% more interesting than base Oblivion offered, and I thought that game had really engaging quests (side quests, at least).

%500 more of zero is still zero.:nocountryforshitposters:

Divinity: Original Sin, Xenonauts and Creeper World III: Arc Eternal. Xenonauts and Creeper are very enjoyable, but the best one here is D: OS. Loving it.

So i decided to try Majesty 2, this time for real. You see, my first time with it was with a demo (5 years ago?) and i was very disappointed. This was primarily my fault, for you see i did not watch any previews, only some screenshots from Majesty Legends (of which today i am only able to find this one) which caused me to fantasize about "what could have been". Instead the demo showed me that this game was the same to Majesty 1 as Tropico 3 was to original Tropico. A "more of the same" type of sequel. Now this by itself is not bad but after waiting 10 years i expect more from a sequel than cheap nostalgia.

Time passed and i was still hungry for some Majesty but i didn't want to play the original for the hundreth time so i decided to give Majesty 2 another spin, this time with the expectations of it being a mission pack for the original. And you know what? It works.
I finished the main campaign and the expansion pack before i got bored and here are my thought on it:

Overall the game is so afraid of trying new things, is such a safe sequel that it is hard to find some big criticism of it because it is so similar to the original, however here are the things that bother me:

-only 1 marketplace, now you might say that this limits income and thus makes the game more hardkor but really, it doesn't. It limits your choices, before you might ask yourself "should i spend my money on new marketplaces (of which every successive costs more) which will gain my more income in the long run or spend money now on other things?"
-temples can only be built on fixed locations which are located far away and thus hard to defend and repair, couple that with lvl 3 palace requirement and you will find that the average number of temples you build in the sequel is smaller than the original; all this causes the lack of unique heroes on most maps and of available temple spells for you to use.
-buildings that you can't do anything about, like elven hotels and casinos are now gone, these gave a certain flair to elves, do you want to build them knowing that your heroes will spend more time chilling off in the casino instead of fighting monsters like they are supposed to?
-no fairgrounds, the ability of your lvl 1 wizards to shoot magic missiles at wooden targets until they level up to not die so easily is sorely missed.
-rogues are not ranged anymore, why? Now they just die more easily and all this so they could turn them into a MMO melee rogue with cooldown abilites and stuff.
-graveyards offer resurrection services, now this is balanced by being VERY costly, but only for some heroes, high level fighters, rangers and rogues are way too cheap to resurrect. In the original finally upgrading healer temple to lvl 2 to get resurrect spell was an important milestone but here it is cheapened by the graveyard.
-while turning the camera is cool, 2d > 3d
-heroes AI feels to passive and unwilling to explore past their guild, not to mention defend their homes. Being assaulted by 10 goblins while a dwarf just sleeps makes me pull out my hair while rangers patroling a small area while i distinctly remember them scouting the whole map by themselves in the original makes me sad.
-the humor, oh god the humor. Now i know that Majesty is a light hearted game but i don't remember being forced to skip briefings in the original.

Overall if you want more majesty this is a solid game, just don't expect anything revolutionary.

You know what? I think i'm going to finish Majesty 1 once more, i've never played those 2 downloadable quest.

No no no no. M2 botches the atmosphere, the visuals and the gameplay of the first. It would be great if it would be similar to the original, but it isn't. Sure, the core of the game is similar, build a kingdom and recruit heroes, but everything else is shit. The AI of heroes is worse than in the first one (you have to babysit them with 4 flags, while in the first one, 2 flags did the job), there are some shitty new features, like manually building parties (which was handled by the AI in the first one). Temple building is forced to fix location which is idiotic.

You listed the cons of the game perfectly, don't say that it is a solid sequel. It is a piece of steaming shit.

Fuck Majesty 2, this is an abomination that shouldn't exist. I'd rather play M1 for a thousand time than this. I'm going to do just that. :)

Codex 2014 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy
I have a folder on my desktop named "Bundle Fodder" where I keep all the downloads I can grab from gaming bundles. Thought I'd have a look and try to clean it up. Found a little game called "Bird Assassin", which is a VERY basic sidescrolling, aim-with-the-mouse-blow-everything-away kinda game. Plot is nonexistant - birds killed your father, now you must avenge him.

Despite all that, I spent an hour burning through the game and killing over 3000 birds with everything from bolt-action rifles to auto-shotguns and miniguns. Yes, a minigun to hunt pigeons and turkeys.

If you guys liked Seal Hunter you may want to check this one out.

My girlfriend brought her PS3 over so after breaks of D:OS and BG2 I've joined her to try out some of the PS3 library, mostly stuff that's super cheap at the store.

The Last of Us was pretty decent. I had some hangups with a few things, like the monotonous "puzzles" and some of the plot, but overall it was enjoyable and well paced. The fights with humans were always entertaining and appropriately brutal; a nice mix of stealth and action. The AI stayed active and kept you on your toes. I wish more games took that approach when they tried to be "realistic." One of the more subtle good things about the game was the use of the backpack as an inventory and the crafting which made you actually choose between very different options. The game's ending was very good, too, though that's possibly because it was the exact one I had "written" in my head before it happened. Staying away from the obvious tropes was a very good choice.

I also picked up Uncharted and what the flying fuck. This game got amazing reviews when it came out but it's a shit banal shooter just like any other, if not worse. There's nothing redeeming about it. The controls are fucking awful, the enemy AI is nonexistent, enemies take a ton of bullets to kill, weapons sound like popguns... The level design is atrocious. At one point, the game had me cross an area, shooting everything along the way, shoot my way back to the start of that area, and then... get this, SHOOT MY WAY BACK ACROSS AGAIN. Who could possibly enjoy this garbage? Like, it's kinda shocking to me how bad the game is compared to the sort of reviews it was getting. The third-person shooter genre is chockful of games, and this is what people thought was awesome? I've read that The Last of Us is basically Naughty Dog's evolution of the Uncharted games. Makes sense, but I can't do it. There's nothing redeeming about the first game thus far -- I bailed after a solid hour, physically unable to progress as yet another 'wave' of enemies generated out of thin air for the umpteenth time.

My thoughts on: Dark Messiah of Might & Magic.

Finished for the first time (Hardest Difficulty), choose "Xana" + "Seal Kha-Beleth" Ending.
Replayed (from save) to see the differences with choosing "Leanna".
Uninstalled.

Played a Fighter/Assassin build, plus leveled up Archer in the last levels.

Entertaining Action/Dungeon Crawl with "DX-Style RPG Elements".
Wish the had done branching story better:
More choices.
Going to different levels.
Markedly different endings.

.....

Possibly implement a dialog system.
Maybe add hubs.

Sigh...

Heard a lot of praise for the melee combat, but it did not live up to it IMO.
Its pretty fun, but rather basic.
I had much more fun with melee in Dark Souls, Severance BoD, and Warband.
I'll admit it's a novelty to have it in first person.

What does redeem it is the physics, this game does them right.
Kick People over & off things.
Kicking, throwing stuff at people.
Setting people on fire.
Setting the ground of fire.
Setting objects on fire and throwing them at enemies .
Freezing the ground to make enemies slip.
(I hear you can also do cool things with lighting, like stunning enemies standing in water.)

It comes alive when your doing the above.
The lackluster melee suddenly gains a visceral quality.
Dodging and blocking a pack of enemies while running around looking for environmental stuff you can use against them.

The Stealth is "decent".
You can sneak up on enemies with daggers and "Neck Stab to Insta-Kill", or sometimes kick them off ledges.
You get a "light gem" style visibility indicator, and crouch or "stealth walk" to stay unseen.

The enemies are rather stupid don't seem to have states of alertness.

Worse is that the game forces you into fights.
Some are "puzzle bosses" who can be dealt with using environmental traps which isn't to bad, but at other times it would probably be a major pain.
It was okay since I dual-classed with fighter, but for someone playing a Pure build...

Can't comment how Mages play since I didn't develop my character to use magic.
Might replay it some time in the future to see...

I'm trying to finish a completely non-lethal run of Deus Ex, been meaning to ever since I found out it was possible. I've been trying to force myself to beat the Baldur's Gate games, and am getting close to finishing the first, but it's pretty boring.

I installed Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines yesterday and it's making it really hard to go back to Baldur's Gate. So immediately engaging and atmospheric... Any beginner tips for it?
