What FPS game you think has the best bestiary,a good bestiary is filled with enemies and Bosses that are very differently of each other in visual and behavior, enemies that requires different approaches to fight against them, memorable(Imp doom,Beheaded Bomber Serious SAM,Shambler Quake,Titans Unreal,Maulotaur Heretic...),Good AI and so on....

To me the two Best ones are:

Doom 2 = Same as doom 1 but with new ones(Mancubus,Arch-vile,Heavy weapon dude,Hell Knight,Pain elemental,Revenant). The doom enemies are very memorable and fair to play against(most of them attack with projectiles),they AI is allright.

Quake = Quake 1 has one of the best, although they are pretty much like doom(Shamblers works similiar to Arch-Vile,Spider thing works like Ravenant,Grunt are the Shoot gun guys from DOOM),they still very memorable in their own way, fair to play against and their AI are like doom: is not that great but its works. There 2 nice expansion packs that add more enemies to the game.

others good ones:

Serious Sam series
Quake 2(good variety of enemies but very forgettable).
Unreal(good AI but forgettable for most part).
Halo Combat Envolved(one of the best ! good variety,good ai,differently behavior,memorable).
Half-life 1,2
Jedi Knight dark forces 2
Turok 1,2 and Evolution

Example of a average one:
Bioshock(besides the Big Dad others enemies are very forgettable)

STALKER maybe? 90% of the time you're killing humans but the other 10% are mutants and they're pretty interesting imo (Snorks, Bloodsuckers, Chimeras, Poltergeists, Controllers, Pseudogiants)

Regular ones:

Blood for cultists, Evil Dead living hands
Quake for Shamblers, Vores and Spawns
Quake 2: The Reckoning for Ion Ripper / Laser Troops and Phalanx Gladiators
Doom 1/2 for Revenants, Cacodemons, Imps and Barons/Knights
Last Rites for best zombies ever
Fears - some people consider it funny but I find these blobheads disturbing

Bosses:
Quake (no contest) - Shub-Niggurath, Chthon
Quake: Dissolution of Eternity - fucking Dragon
Duke 3D: Overlord, Cyclops

The Suffering, a little known (it seems, since few people seem to have played it) horror first person shooter for the original XBox, PC, and Playstation 2 has some very imaginative and well designed enemies. The game is set on a prison island where all the long-ago executed prisoners have returned to this world, and they take the form, vaguely, of a horror based on how they died, so there are creatures that have blades for arms and legs, and they are the ones who were killed by a blade, the ones who died by being buried alive are now creatures who burrow through the earth and only come up to attack you, those who were hanged act a little like the barnacles in Half-Life, in that they hang high up on the ceiling, and come down and catch you if you walk underneath them.

The Suffering is a straight first person shooter, so the enemies don't behave differently from enemies in most games, and it's not a survival horror (you get enough ammunition to kill them all, and they can all die), so it's really only visually that the enemies in this game are particularly notable, but they do look good (well, horrible!) and the game is enjoyable.

The Half-Life games have the best alien designs that I can think of offhand.

Couple of enemies from Half Life:Opposing Force

There really hasn't been a definitive fps that had the bestiary to match Doom 2's iconic line up, unfortunately.

It's been 15 years or so since I last played it, but iirc it's well worth playing. Cool art, enemy, weapon and level design. I found it unique enough back then and I'm sure that it's a masterpiece when compared to more recent trash like nuDoom for example.

KISS Psycho Circus: The Nightmare Child

I had no fucking idea there was a KISS game. Is it any good? I'm guessing it was a cheap cash-grab because Gene Simmons was involved, but who knows, Detroit Rock City was a decent movie

It's decent and has best melee weapon in any fps (Gene's Axe!) save for Lo Wang's katana form original Shadow Warrior.

It's based on a Todd McFarlane produced comic that was big and ran for a few years in the late '90s. Was around during that time when McFarlane was huge, (so the made a pretty big deal about the comic coming out) when the toy company was taking off, and the Spawn movie and HBO cartoon were coming out. I remember the PC game getting good reviews back when it came out.

Not quite, those dudes were actually amputation victims of the crazy asylum head doctor IIRC. My favourites from The Suffering were probably the mainliners tho, with the syringes for eyes.

I liked Quake 2, because the enemies and the weapons combined brilliantly (plus they chunked really well).

Half-Life too had some great enemies with a nice level of variety including human enemies.

Of course, it's difficult to manage impressive variety in some FPS games from non-Sci Fi settings where the enemies consist of different troop types (eg rocket guy, sniper guy etc). I love the FEAR series for example, but enemy variety is not it's strongpoint.

Possibly but they were also prisoners executed by decapitation, hence they had no necks.

Painkiller is definitely one of the best ones in this regard.

Not only did almost every level introduce new enemies, but they also fought completely differently. There were melee enemies, ranged enemies, flying enemies, wall-crawling enemies, enemies that could revive their allies, enemies that could fuck up your vision, enemies that buffed other enemies, enemies that could become invulnerable, enemies that could only be hurt by firing at specific places, enemies that could use their allies as a shield, etc. Many enemies also had several variants. For example there were monks that wield axes but later in the game you would start seeing other monks that threw grenades and used torches. Late game enemies also sometimes had several abilities.
