This shit looks laughably bad, especially storytelling / scripting. And they shove it in your face every 5 minutes, apparently.

I was talking about pre-orders. If it isn't among the top 10, it's most likely going to be a financial failure.

It's singleplayer only. So everyone is either going to the Bay or waiting for the inevitable $5 sale.

Financial failure guaranteed.

Dishonored sold really well. There's still a place for good singleplayer games in the big budget space.

Of course Dishonored was a good game, and this probably isn't.

Aren't there older i7 processers that are dual-core or quad-core? Maybe they meant that, not the newer Sandy/Ivy/Haswell generation.

Yes they exist and are still used in notebooks:

http://ark.intel.com/products/family/75023#@Mobile

Minimum:

OS:64-bit Windows 7/Windows 8
Processor:Intel Core i7 or equivalent AMD
Memory:4 GB RAM
Graphics:GeForce 460, ATI Radeon HD 6850
Hard Drive:50 GB available space

"We've made an unoptimized console port"

otherwise minimum specs would look something like:

OS: 32-bit Windows XP or newer
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent AMD
Memory: 512 MB RAM
Graphics: GeForce 7800, ATI X1800XT
Hard Drive: 4,7GB available space

No, the PC version is not based on the 360 SKU. I think those specs are perfectly fine considering it's (code and art) PS4 equivalent.

So what's the difference between the "next-gen" and "last-gen" versions except better graphics? I doubt the next-gen and PC version will feature larger, more complex levels filled with a greater number of smarter enemies.

Of course there's no difference outside graphics. All version have to be functional across all platforms, and that means lowest-common denominator is de facto lead platform.

We won't see games developed from scratch for PS4/XBO/PC arriving before End 2015 and later. But when we do, a modern Core i5/7 will be the minimum requirement. Are people then still gonna whine it's too high? Of course, because there will always be clueless whiners.

The only difference is graphics, surely, which means they could easily have the PC version SCALE between so more machines ran it.

Also the i7 requirement is retarded either way since most gamers I know buy i5s because there's functionally no difference when playing PC games.

Again, that's gonna change once engines are being written against 6-core CPUs (2 cores reserved for OS and background stuff). Not saying it's won't run with Quad-Cores, but it will scale better with modern i7s.

Also idTech 5 might require a beefier CPU to help with Mega-Texture streaming. Rage was pretty bad in that regard.

Yes, I am sure someday games will be written for that good a processor from day one, and then they will require it. Not sure what that has to do with anything in this thread though.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is not some future tech game, since it has a 360/PS3 version. There is no reason a game that runs on decade old hardware should require an i7 to run on PC. And also the wording is dumb because some i5s are better than some i7s, and they don't even really get into what kind of AMD the game will need.

Why do you assume idTech 5 hasn't evolved since Rage? As I said, they probably made changes to the Texture-streaming engine to support much higher-res Textures (50GB download anyone?) and that simply requires a beefier CPU. So unless they'd include the shitty 360/PS3 version Textures in the PC version (which I doubt), the system requirements as they are make sense.

Why would you doubt that? Do they not want to sell the game to the vast majority of PC gamers? Is there no way to scale the textures in the PC version, if indeed these miraculous textures are what is causing them to have a higher CPU requirement than any PC game before it, so that more people can purchase their game?

Certain sims and a few other advanced games can justify being that demanding, games like:

Minimum:
OS:64-bit: Windows Vista, 7 or 8
Processor:Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz
Memory:6 GB RAM
Graphics:512 MB RAM card
DirectX®:9.0c
Hard Drive:10 GB HD space
Sound: DirectX 9.0c - compatible

Recommended:
OS:64-bit: Windows Vista, 7 or 8
Processor:Core i5+
Memory:8 GB RAM
Graphics:Shader 3.0 or better; NVIDIA GeForce GTX560 / ATI 6950 DirectX 9.0c or better
DirectX®:9.0c
Hard Drive:10 GB HD space
Sound: DirectX 9.0c - compatible
Other Requirements:Broadband Internet connection

and

Id tech 5 powered console games can not.

Below are RAGE system requirements, and while that game is ugly (those textures...) it isn't a totally linear popamole shooter like Wolfenstein The New Order

Minimum:
OS: Win XP SP3, Vista, Win 7
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo or Equivalent AMD
Memory: 2GB
Hard Disk Space: 25GB
Video Card: GeForce 8800, Radeon HD 4200

But I'm sure all of this is as obvious to you as it is to the rest of us and you're at least partially trolling

Give me the evidence that Wolfenstein is using the same old 2011 engine branch of Rage.

Dude, no one gives a shit what it's using. It's very simple: if they are only using maximum spec on PC they are being dumb, because it limits how many people can run (and thus buy) the game. Since there is a version of the game that runs on Xbox 360 they should be able to create a PC version that scales low enough to run on a standard quad-core, or even less. It's that simple.

I'm not sure why you are arguing against that.

I'm not sure why anyone would argue that some i7 920 for a 2014 game is considered too high of an requirement.

People, time to upgrade from your shitty Core 2 Duo's from 2006.
Because this is a game that has been (presumably) optimized to run on 2006 hardware.

My Q9550 has allowed me to play every single game released thus far on max settings. Suddenly an i7 is the baseline requirement for a game which was made to work on 10 year old consoles. This does not compute. If it were some amazing new only on next-gen experience I would understand, but it isn't.

I'm not sure how else I can explain this to you.

so the consoles are barely released and the "4 core minimum" shit has already begun?
