Or maybe a storyline about gnomes taking over halfling governing bodies while pretending to be halflings too and pushing for a massive influx of goblins into halfling cities and towns, until there's naught but goblins, orcs and a couple of rich gnomes left in the cities built and maintained by halflings for generations.
