I've today played around with some new scenery graphics and made some new ambience tracks, this being one of them. The "flying debris" animation looks pretty shitty on the video, in the game it will be much smoother and better looking.

Because Jaesun forced me to do an update via IRC, here is the smallest and most pointless one ever. :salute:


I was basically just messing around trying to copy some cool propaganda posters/flyers the character can find in New Vegas.
And came up with lame shit like this :D I am really just doing that for learning by doing in Photoshop. Now that I "get" how these things are made, I will probably include some better ones in the game.

I have removed the actual ingame informations you can gain by ripping those posters from the walls, no spoilers allowed here. :P You can always access these graphics by "using" the inventory items of them in the.... duh, inventory.

I was just messing a bit around and thought this scene looks cool. :P It's quite amazing how good 2d art still can look with a bit effort these days, IMO.

Everything, except the tree branches and the pond is "walkable" - so it's not that messy. ;P If you step on those "dunes" (need to make them look a bit bigger), it gives you some PE modifiers.

I think something like it would be great for a game track, especially first 30 or so seconds after that there is a bit too much sporadic clamor.

For some odd reason it reminds me of a mixture between the Fallout and Super Metroid Soundtrack. I can assure you, yes, the music I have done so far sounds similar to it. :)

Interesting idea, but there'll gonna be different combat stances anyway ;) So you can larp a worm while crouching throghout the levels.

On a more serious note, I have to think about it... Right now, the "give +AC etc" is not directly in the engine, but attached to the game via scripts and event hexes. It can certainly be done, but I think it would be more clever to do a global "cover" (omg popamole) system than to place each single "cover" hex by hand.

Question, now that my "scriptress" has more time: Would you guys prefer an option for turning on a hex field of your ... duh.. hexes to go during combat? So that you have a field of hexes, saying where you can go during your turn, how much AP your action will take etc directly on the screen? I have tested out some stuff and encounters ( the wood "scene" above being on of them) and I have absolutely being pwned even though I know how to exploit the system. Good/bad? I dunno. :D

what exactly do you mean by global cover here, bro? I mean if it's not an environmental factor like shot LoS, making 'cover' a selectable tactical option or something would be weird

So that you have a field of hexes, saying where you can go during your turn

a highlighted area saying your immediate range of movement would be nice

if we want to take this up bro you could have different squares indicating range of movement for other characters but I think this would encourage kiting

what I do think would be sweet bro is a firing arc indicator for bursts, something as simple as highlighting all the targets eligible for damage rolls would be sweet

I mean, then you would have to start to add a "give +this and that" flag to the engine when near cover etc. I dont have as much knowledge to the engine to add that. ;) That's why I have to add special hexes to places where it makes sense you get some bonus or malus to your stats, depending on your stance on the map. Fallout didn't have this and it shows. Why should a guy standing on a roof have the same PE stats as a guy standing in a tar pit full of fog? etc....[/list]

I love the work you've been doing on this. Just been listening to the tracks on your blogspot and it sounds really good.

I'm a little confused about one thing though- according to your blogspot it's set really recently after the War but some of your screenshots on NMA have propaganda against the NCR?

There is some kind of "weather" system, but it's still being worked on. Basically it means there can be different weather patterns who add dynamic hazards and radiation the maps. There will be fixed maps with background radiation aswell (like the Glow in FO1)
