1. I genuinely do appreciate your help

2. You still haven't answered my question

HOW OFTEN HAVE YOU ACTUALLY SEEN IT HAPPEN
ALL THE TIME like stated previous. It happens, you will lose transport ships from time to time, more common on the beginning before you have control of sector areas and ships to protect the same.

Good way to fly first transports it to attach to give them laser turrets or one scout/fighting ship. Usually pirates and xenon attacking are in small numbers and your transport will "run away" while your scout/fighter/laser turrets will bog down enemy for long enough.

Oh ffs it turns out if you're going to build a Terran base out in the middle of non-Terran space OH SORRY YOU NEED MATERIALS THAT ARE GENERALLY ONLY TERRAN so I've had to buy my first transport ship to head back towards Sol to pick up and deliver what I'll need. It's only a Medium-sized freighter but we all have to start somewhere.

How often if at all do your transports and other non-combat ships get attacked and specifically destroyed by Xenon or pirates or whomever? Is that something I should worry about?
I just gave the station a budget to buy the materials from neutral traders. It takes longer but I was in no rush either.

I did, as well, but the needle wasn't moving whatsoever. I figured it was going to take days of in-game time so I decided to do it myself which is invaluable experience for a noob like myself.

Automatic pricing is key here which is default setting. As you have very small amount of something the price is set to be high and it gradually lowers down as your station stock improves reaching lowest price when you reach maximum stock as you can't produce anymore.
Trick to is to set minimum price from start otherwise you are competing with every other station out there that has prices lower than yours. Then as your station starts to get trade and stocks improve you set it to higher price or just automatic.
Default settings on auto require a lot of time for station to improve stocks first before it start to generate money.

Another thing is volume. Simply put some traders will just ignore you because you don't have enough stock. They will rather haul whole ship of low worth cargo than 5% of their ship of very profitable cargo because on whole cargo scale they make more money on it.

Your advice is fine perkel but this was about building materials.

This applies to everything and it is general rule.
Yeah but the trick isn't to set the price of building materials you are demanding to a minimum. In fact, the price is set to maximum by default and even then it takes a long time to get supplied. Which is why crispy did it manually.
But yeah, your advice is great for general station pricing strategy.

Just picked up a mission to head into Getsu Fune to take out seven random Xenon ships. The payout is (for me) a whopping 500K credits.

Considering some people characterize the trading of advanced satellites at 20K profit per unit to be "cheating", this seems like a very lucrative contract.

Without spoiling, tell me what a lucrative contract is to you. A million a pop?
That kind of quest is fine to take since few quests expire and there's no penalty for not finishing a quest (except maybe that station won't give anything new), but nothing I go out of my way to do. You grab it mid-game+ because you'll shoot some Xenon ships eventually and want the rep boost, payment is just a bonus.

I just checked my save: I got 4,185,985, plus another ~500,000 in kill bonuses between police license and station defense, for doing a single patrol mission right before Xenon decided to launch a significant attack against a sector (an I, multiple Ks, many smaller craft) while I have 66 mil in the bank with at least that much in assets and a pretty steady income from some factories in a sector I own+miners+autotraders. I only bothered with the quest because it was for doing something I was going to do anyways (clear Xenon from that area). End-game is, as I understand it, when you try out clearing entire factions from the map and hoping your save isn't too bloated to finish that.

Okay, it's Let's All Laugh at Crispy Time!

I was supposed to build a dock to land my ship at my HQ, but I couldn't figure out why the "dock" wouldn't actually line up with the outer ring of my base properly. The game still allowed me to build it, but it wasn't actually attached! It was sitting about 100 meters above the central asteroid of the base!

Why?

Because I told the game to build a pier (can accept size L ships) and not a dock. :rage:

It's okay, though, because I was able to fully refund it, not losing any of my building materials, and I only needed to source some local hull parts to build a standard dock which, of course, does align correctly with the base. Now I can finally enter it.

WHY DOES EVERYTHING HAVE TO BE SO HARD

I love it, though. My brian is 100% stimulated, even if I'm making stupid mistakes.

This seems more like a bug tbh. It shouldn't let you build anything unless it's connected to the building. Dock, pier or otherwise.

If you're talking about the Headquarters ( aka the most powerful destructive force in the universe that just gets handed to you lul), it has connection points in some weird places that might not be obvious.

Just some more minor inconsequential praise of this game:

It's amazing to just let your pilot take control of the ship you're currently in, order him to fly somewhere (preferably where there's some nice eye candy like your main story station, asteroids, etc.) then stand back and mouse free-look around while he's navigating his way. Slowly cruising past highly-detailed asteroids, stations, large ships, etc...

I don't recall being able to enjoy something as admittedly trivial yet so satisfying anyway in any of the other X games, nor, for that matter, in any other space game.

X4 is almost like a hobby, not a game.

On the topic of NPC pilots for player vessels, it's worth noting the game simplifies (Read: Mostly ignores) collision checks if the player isn't looking, even if the player is onboard the vessel (meaning they're facing a wall with their back turned to the viewport). This is primarily known/used for getting vehicles unstuck in older versions where being stuck in an asteroid was a real risk, but it can also help with getting the AI to fly through heavy traffic areas.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Been watching some X4 videos on Youtube about the Star Wars Interwords mod, and it's pretty much convinced me to upgrade my PC. Some of the extra mods are gonna be great when they get going. Things like the salvage command suite and other mods that might make your ship the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy.

Edit: This is pure porn.

Did you play X3? I still need to get around to completing the Battlestar Galactica mod for that game, but I'm looking forward to see how X4 compares to the pure autism of X3.

Damn seeing that many fighters at once got my dick hard. For all the fun that the X-Wing series is it really limits the number of fighters flying around to like 1/10th of what it should be in reality. Of course it did that so the player could have a measurable effect on the battle in a fighter, but X4 doesn't need that.

The average PC in the 90s wasn't powerful enough for that, to be fair. You had to have limits somewhere to run Alliance on a Pentium II with a Kyro or Rage 128 graphics card (for the Endor battle they basically cheated by using static images to pad out the Imperial fleet).

Yep, I haven't played X4 yet but it seeks there are some massive battles:

Having said that, I think they made a good showing with the X3 Star Wars Litcube's Universe mod:

Which I haven't played either. Don't know if this link will work to the gif that shows the density of that battle a bit clearer: https://www.moddb.com/mods/star-wars-lu-swlu/images/rebels-vs-ocv#imagebox

I keep coming back to the original X3 Star Wars mod which is barebones in comparison to the Litcube one, and the BSG mod. Which I think is the most underrated mod ever released for any game in the history of all games.

Ehh...has the Codex warned Crispy that when you start playing an X3 game, you lose about a year of your life every time you play a round?.

Yep, the guy that modded this also did a Star Wars mod for X3, and he included just about every Star Wars ship in the universe. Even the Moldy Crow from the Jedi Knight games. I think it's taking him and his team a while now as they have to do the ship interiors as well.

Is there any news on what the next DLC might tackle next? I remember one of the systems dropped many hints that the people there built an ark or colony ship from the high-tech stations they had there when the gates closed and disappeared into the unknown. Wonder if they will touch upon that.

Anyone has gone back to the old games just for fun? I am playing X-Tension now and love the overall simplicity (compared to X4) while still having a blast.
