On the internet, writing shit posts.
I on the other hand lost again my Commander Ironman campaign. Again. Drink a bit of coffee and start anew.
If in XCOM3 the aliens have not only taken over Earth but also raped all our women and have 3 bases in the Moon or something, blame me. I'm the one that's losing :mixedemotions:

So YOU were the source of all of the sectoid hybrids in XCOM APOC!
Filthy heretic!

Base bonus - pretty good if I may say so.

When the aliens really want your attention for another round aka landing in the middle of the rescue zone.

Mid game I had an insane fight with 2 Avatars. Unfortunately I'm a retard and I forgot to print screen. Place holder instead.

And end statistics ... they are fake: I save scummed for every good hacking bonus :)

End mission was nice although a little bit retarded with infinite respawning. On the other hand, you just have to hunt the Avatars therefore even a non-optimized squad can make it.

I think the entire playthrough took me 25h. On the other I kind of knew what to do and in the end I did not have patience to form some psi monks. C'est la vie.

Good game. Not great but it does hit the spot. Not recommended on full price but definitely buy it later.

I am about to start the last mission but no matter its quality it does not change my opinion on what I played so far.

While this game is superior to Xcom EU, I think overall Xcom EW is better. And older xcom games much better than all.

What xcom 2 does better than Xcom EW is geoscape and all the cool upgrade options for your troops and their stuff.

Missions variety is much worse, even the random maps are (in one play through of Xcom EW you will probably not play same map again). The different UFO missions blow away any missions in this game.
In addition to couple of main story missions there are exactly 2 repeatable missions types without timers (Facility assault - which feels same like main mission ones - and Supply Raid).
Everything else feels like playing same mission but with different timer.

Combat is less random with grenadiers being so powerful and PSI OPS having a couple auto work abilities. It is also easier with Specialist being much stronger healer than in Xcom EW.

It was fun for one play but unlike xcom eu and ew I got zero need to play it again.
Some awesome mods will be needed to make it a trully good game.

U can't compare vanilla with EW..vanilla 2 is still better than 1 and when dlcs (2 new missions confirmed) and full expansion will be released, the overall game will be much better than Eu in terms of contents

And btw, in EW Ufo missions were always in fuckin temperate woods.....such variety

The non-burning woods map was re-used three times in EW, the only thing that changed was where you started and the starting viewing angle. Whoopee.

Also, in Ew we got only urban settings and temperate woods and no time of day.

In 2 vanilla we have snow, desert, temperate and cities, and possibly more with future add ons

Iced my non-ironman attempt and started a new IM attempt. Apparently i really need the tension of IM in xcom games. Besides i think i got enough insight in the new machanics and strategy layer to go for IM.

In that game i got to less than 10 days till fail, just managed to contact a region with a 2 star factory. Apparently VeryDifficult but my squad was heading home in 40 minutes.

In this game i prioritized the PG (after GTS), and just started to crank out experimental ammo. You miss out on the AWC bonus skills for a while, but a decent price for early AP or Talon rounds for example.

Just had a retaliation mission that was ranked difficult. Slowly made my way onwards, saving a few civs and killing one pod, when TSHTF. My ranger runs too far to save a group of civs and finds three pods next to each other. But quite far away from my main group. I figure he's gone and set up my unit. A berserker rushes my ranger. Beats him unconscious, gets hit by my sniper and goes into frenzy. Queue me watching as he runs and kills three aliens in the next two turns. My snipers blow up a gas tank that takes out two more and the last one runs into my reaction fire. Voila.

Love this game.

I can compare whatever the fuck I want, especially when games are Xcom 1 and Xcom 2 made by same developer. Are you saying people didn't compare Bg2 vs Bg1+TotSC? And found mostly found Bg2 superior... well in Xcom 2 case it is not.
And if Xcom 2 will DCLs will be better remains to be seen. I hope it will.

UFO mission were different depending on size of UFO, I don't fucking care if there are forests around or not.

It seems you only care for pompamole stuff while I am talking about gameplay. You should remove that avatar you have, you don't deserve it. Replace it with some monster from Xcom 2, it will be more fitting.

Does desert, snow or night influence gameplay in any meaningful way? Or even any way?
Fucking Xenonauts had Ice maps there were so bare of cover you approached it different than other areas. Xcom2 has same map colored white. Such awesome gameplay changes! Such smart design! Lets put white everywhere!

My ranger runs too far to save a group of civs.

I find there's no point trying to save civs directly. You risk having a Faceless revealed and have to deal with that while other enemies are killing civilians. Whereas if you avoid civs and head for enemies instead, you can get them to target you instead of civilians, and deal with Faceless after the other enemies have been disposed of.

Civs are really just a <=7 "turn limit" on retaliation missions.

Yeah, I usually try and kill as many aliens as quick as I can in these missions. I do however use my ranger occasionally when I see a group of civs together. Must be greed. This time I had two snipers at the back, so I figured they could quickly take out any faceless. This mission could and should have gone badly, but I got incredibly lucky with the knockout blow to the ranger and the berserker going nuts. Nice to have that once in awhile.

Enemies do occasionally ignore you and go for the civs even when close to you, btw. I usually try and lure them away from everything by dropping a mimic grenade. Awesome little toys those.

Yeah, we all have stories about that one innocuous mistake that leads to cascading failure. Was cool to read a story about unexpected cascading success :D

Someone gone mad.

Xcom 2 has more fidelity to the original than NuXcom 1 due to the procedural maps, biomes and time of day matching to the landscape and enviromental destruction.

Yeah, all popamole stuff and nothing related to gameplay LMAO

mad is mad. U're on a videogame forum, nothing worth to be mad bro. Videogame. Forum. PLS

And actually it's noticable how different the maps are every time they're generated, even if you just restart the game a couple of times. Just the first map ,even though it has big "standard" structures in it, can vary a lot every time the game generates it.
Also the patrol routes, the turrets... These things make every map intense and interesting...and the game harder. I remember clearly a death I had just because I played a Blacksite map, I thought I knew where the turrets were from a previous try and...found out they were placed differently this time.

One thing I'm finding interesting compared to the previous game is that, weirdly, full cover isn't always available from every position. Last year I was playing EW, and it programmed me unequivocally to always be in full cover. In 2, there are plenty of situations where I have to cross a street with nothing but a low traffic divider to hide behind, or get to the edge of a woodsy area and all the trees are gone, just some elevation changes and low rocks. Often there aren't even enough rocks for my whole team. It seems like such a minor thing, but it really makes a huge impact on gameplay.

I just finished the game, last fight was interesting :D
I didn't lose any guys, but some were close to dying, mostly because the last A didn't want to leave his area and there were too many other aliens between me and that area to rush through. At one point during the last fight I missed 3 shots in a row (90%, 98% and 85%) all vs same Codex dude.
I must say the Codex guys gave me hardest time for that mission, I was lucky they are considered mechs as well so my sniper with emp ammo could one shot them.
Overall the mission was fun, although a bit long.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I had a pretty grim campaign in legendary Ironman : I bled out soldiers in each mission (1 dead, 2 wounded for each of the first 5 missions), then got hit by the event adding faceless in non retaliation mission, and the one guaranteeing a dropship. I managed to capture a VIP and dash between the reinforcements, one facelss and one group to the evac zone, but I got hit pretty hard the mission after :
I had two pods revealed at the same time, from two different directions in a retaliation mission. I tried to pullback, but that didn't work out, as that triggered a faceless that slain the ranger, making the specialist panic. Then I lost everyone.
I wonder whether this game is salvageable. I am in month 4, with my highest ranking being a sergent, no weapon mods or PCS.
Do you buy extra scientists and/or engineers in the beginning? I find supply pretty scarce, but having armors lvl2 might have helped a lot on this mission.

I went to sleep thinking im done with Xcom2 for a while, then woke up starting a L/I campaign :D

Dont know if this has been mentioned but there was an interesting read on reddit by someone who completed L/I https://www.reddit.com/r/Xcom/comments/45ovye/finally_its_over/ . In summary he used concealment to quietly finish the objective with one or two dudes. Then spent a ton of turns playing overwatch spam for the rest of the mission by finding out where the patrols were going with rangers and scanners. Certain missions he would ignore and spend intel regaining contact instead.

Although i commend the skill and patience involved, it is a bit disheartening to see a roundabout of the old tactics powergamed to win. Dont think Ill try that method, and god knows ill fail anyway if i did.

I did nearly same as him without resorting to that tactic. I mean, I always tried to break conceal in aliens turn but I also try to do objectives same time. Game becomes a lot fun and stresful like that.
Best ambushes start with a proximity mine, anything left alive after that and multiple overwatches are mostly became fodder for my pistoller.

An interesting page, except games completed are bugged. Still - fascinating that the class getting most kills is the Ranger. People really want to weaboo aliens with a sword. In all my games Ranger was last, though I only use one for scouting and one-trick pony when I really, really want something dead once/twice per mission.

My most damaging class were %90 rangers. I mostly flank with them and critical strikes finishes the job very well. Also I tricked a lot of melee enemies to my rangers bladestorm again to finish them of, quite risky bu satisfiying.

Meantime heavies and psi do all the hard work and soften enemies.
