I tried several times to play the first NuZelda, but I got bored every time after a while.
The whole landscape is barren and almost empty.
Trying to discover more of it is openly hindered by the stupid stamina system, random rain which prohibits climbing, and (to a lesser degree) by the heat/cold areas.
To explore some of these areas you have to rely on the annoying crafting system to create necessary items or potions.
Getting a transportation unit, so you can traverse the extremely wide and empty landscapes faster AKA a good horse is also a chore and luck to get.
You can of course get a very good horse (and many other things) easily, if you use the Nintendo version of Pay-For-Win lootboxes: the amiibos - available at your local friendly Nintendo merchant.
Fights are best to be avoided if possible, since your weapons and shields break after minimum use and also enemies respawn after each "Blood Moon". The items you get are mostly worthless anyway.
So fighting is basically useless.
Shrines are mostly simple, repetitive, boring and/or have annoying forced fights.
And getting the reward in form of hearts or stanima (one of the few permanent upgrades) is also kind of nerved, since the monsters level up with you.
So the game punishes you for exploring the shrines and upgrading your character.
Why should you get the items, if you hardly getting any advantage from them?
The story (as far as I played) was also very boring.
The problem with this Open World approach is, that they couldn't tell a continuous story.
So you only get disjointed story snippets - mostly in form flashbacks what happened years before the game.
And I got the impression from these flashbacks, that a Zelda game in that time period would have been much more interesting.
It seems, you can finish the game in less of an hour (of course skipping cutscenes) by going directly to Hyrule Castle after finishinig the intro quests.
So the basic game that you have to play is very short.
Everything else (over 90%) is extra and optional.
And for me, it also feels that way!
