wouldn't take a rogue
When it comes to party-based D&D combat games, I'll take a rogue if I can multiclass it with a fighter or wizard.

Finally planning on playing this thing, but I'm unsure about feats for my fighters: Which weapon focus is viable to take? Can I take greataxe for example?
If you are gonna craft, everything is viable, if not, only the "common weapons" are viable, longsword, greatsword, greataxe, and i dont remember which else has good weapons available.

Developer's opinion on scroll scribe can be seen on Steam achievements for clearing encounters on increasing difficulty:
1. Without any max ability rolls
2. Without scroll scribe
3. Ironman

Huh game levels so fast, I'm already level 10 in the orc fort near the start.
Lvl 10 is at the end of Dark Sun Shattered Lands and Baldur's Gate.

Fucking amazing game.
Just no bullshit.
Most polished game i played in years.

ToEE basically was the question and KotC the answer.
I'm killing the giants right now and just having a blast.

Very excited for KotC 2. Let's hope it will be good.

Professional top esports KOTC player here: I'm still able to make wands so I can always walk around with max hp and chaff clearing spells and not worry about resource management.

How are these ranks determined?
Looks like achievements. Some of them like keep npcs alive look interesting.
Cloak of Spider seems to ignore terrain movement penalties, not stated in the game.

Pierre created something good, but then spent the next X years acting worse than retarded

i simultaneously want to shake his hand and strangle the idiot; then i remember he is French and my strangling hand easily wins

however, i will give him money for KoTC 2 as i'm trying to keep my karma neutral after so many stranglings (and i dont want that hand too weary to raise a glass); if he disappoints me again, well...

I just want to say again that KOTC is an excellent game. If not for the somewhat low replay value - mostly do to lack of options in character/party creation - it would be one of the best crpgs ever made.
Waiting for KOTC2. I never say that i will blindly buy a game but this time i might make an exception.
Also I agree about Pierre being an idiot and a genius at the same time. An idiot savant so to speak.

Pierre is a Shakespeare of encounter design but a retarded inbred monkey with 20 different flavors of down syndrome of business decisions.

Pierre should become a ToEE modder and bring his encounter design into that game. He could add all the new classes and gameplay mechanics too.

The best team for that battle, in my experience, is two clerics and two wizards. It makes the fight a lot easier if you can get mass death ward up early (two guys helps at least one get early initiative) and have two dudes who can rez each other. More dudes with Heal and Mass Heal is nice, too. The wizards spent most of their time using dominate monster, mass hold monster, irresistible dance, and stone skin because those god damn archers can really stack damage even without the risk of instant kill.

I found the hardest achievement to be the one where you gotta keep all your allies alive during that battle. Those stupid fucks just charge right in there. I even tried web and stone wall to keep them from charging like idiots into the center of a pack of level 30 monsters, but the enemies dispel it. It's like the bad guys just want to kill those guys and my party is in the way. How the fuck did 1.1% of people manage this? It took me probably 50 tries.

I remember one time, in particular, it was going well. Some of the tougher enemies had been destroyed or dominated, and mainly it was the archers and the Balor. He's not too bad, I thought. He mainly just uses his melee attack and isn't using debuffs on my guys. That fucker rolled an instant kill with his vorpal weapon on one of the dudes. Time to start all over. It's like the world's worst escort mission.

Finished playing this game a while ago. Absolutely brilliant, this is a prime example of what an indie RPG should be like: A game with a narrow scope, but excelling in the few features it presents, which are:
  • Engaging turn-based combat
  • Great encounter design
  • Rewarding loot
  • Simple, but charming art style
  • Good pacing and the game doesn't overstay its welcome as many others do. You get 30 hours of engaging gameplay and then the game's over. Perfect.
  • Detailed explanation of all its systems
Feels like I'm writing an ad for it but I really do recommend it to everyone who's on the fence.

Some minor gripes would be that I thought fighters/knights had good itemisation options but still were a bit too underwhelming in the later stages of the game. Maybe more/better feats could have helped here. The high level cleric spells were also not particularly interesting.
I wouldn't have minded some breaks between combat, like optional dialogue on the game's lore, or perhaps expanded towns in general.

My favorite area was probably the optional cave to the south-west of the starting location. Searching for that ring to find out what's in the storage room turned out to be a pretty good call for adventure.

KOTC2 has become the RPG I'm looking forward to the most in 2020. :salute:

Final battle is not that hard because at final battle you should alreadyu have infinite resurreection scrolls. Early fights are a lot harder. Once you get to true resurrection scrolls whole game becomes a cakewalk. I have more chances at dying at the first fight in the game than in the final batte.

Knights are bad for the same reason in most western rpg Warrior/fighter types are bad.
When you can rest infinetly, then there is no reason to not just make a team full of spellcasters and mass buffs/spells, fight, rest, repeat. In that loop knights are useless.

However if you play those games with rules to limit resting, knights are great.

KOTC is no different if you don't plan to have restrictions on resting, scrap knights, just play Wizards and clerics.
this is no different than any other 3.5 game.
