Lots new on Steam today.

This one is from the people who made Furi. I tried the long demo a few months back and it's a departure from it. It's TBRPG but a lot less game-y. The main characters are a couple who spent most of the time having banter. It's probably story heavy and aiming for your feels.

How does it compare to AC7?

It doesn't look as good as AC 7 but you have to remember this probably had a fraction of the budget. It doesn't have expensive cutscenes either. Still looks good enough. (That's the mission start you don't have black bars during the rest of the mission.)

The gameplay is literally like in Ace Combat 5-7, like 1:1 copy. It even has enemy aces squadrons like in Zero. I love it! The full game can be played both in VR and in normal display. Aircraft is modelled accurately but uses fictional names i presume to avoid paying licensing fees.

Original aircraft do not steal!

The story and presentation are very Ace Combat instead of Strangereal it takes place in a post apocalyptic setting with nations like Cascadia. They even managed to replicate the campy dialogue.

Overall i'm liking the game a lot.

Thank you for the description, also bought it.

Feels great so far, graphics are a bit worse compared to AC7 and sadly there's no mission recording, but whatever, Im glad they delivered.

Overall pretty positive. Not a dream game but looking damn good for free game pass and unless it shits the bed later on, not entirely awful for the $20 asking price, or if you see it in a bundle at some point consider it a nice addition. The music's quite nice too.
Finished it up. Played it fairly heavily but it's also just a short game. C&C is definitely on the low side and the "Adventure" point and click parts are extremely minimal (Came up twice during the length of the game) so the $20 price is less appealing after seeing the whole thing. Moon logic is there but fairly minimal as far as C&C goes (Most common offender being denying a random peasant something and then getting hit with a massive morale penalty compared to smaller gains by building churches and shit), and the writing's pretty spotty for the story. Still a fun ride but after seeing how the final slides played out and how the achievements are phrased I don't have any urge to play another run of it.

Reigns is still probably a better game, even though it's extremely bite-sized. Could've done some cool stuff with a more focused story but it felt like it was squandered a bit even though it was still largely enjoyable.

Slaves of Magic... Prelude. Sort of combat demo for some kind of fantasy tactics. It's not out for the festival.

Page for the main game:

Slaves of Magic is a fantasy turn-based tactical RPG in which you have to lead the resistance against the invaders. You will have to find ways to slow down their forces, till you can learn their most powerful weapon, the use of elemental magic, and turn it against them.

The game will have a strategic and tactical layer. On the strategic side, you will have to find and decide about missions against the invaders, handle, and research your troop's equipment and skills. On the tactical layer, you will have to guide your troops to reach their goals in unique delayed turn-based combat.

Planned features

- Procedurally generated strategic and tactical maps.
- Character development without a restrictive class system. For every character, you will be able to "equip" up to 8 skills.
- Character generator. You will be able to create a pool of characters that then will be used randomly in your campaign.
- Permadeath. Characters can die permanently in combat.
- Unique delayed turn-based system. Every action you make takes some time to resolve. You not only have to think about the situation right now but about the situation that you will be in when the action actually resolves.
- 8 directional facing. Flanking is important, and encouraged.
- Diverse roster of enemies with its own skills and tactics.

About us

Amethyst Dreamers is a small independent 2 person team from Budapest, Hungary. Our goal with Slaves of Magic is to create a game with great tactical depth, unique game mechanics, and high replayability. In short, a game we would love to play as well. In designing the game, we took a lot of inspiration from the XCOM series and the original Guild Wars.

Shards of Feyra, turn-based co-op RPG built for casual playthrough:

Shards of Feyra is a turn based RPG, where magic is real and the monsters are unleashed. This world is dangerous, full of adventures and mythical beasts. Land of Feyra is a mystical place, where you can adventure with your friend in co-op game mode or alone. Each player will control 2 heroes through the deepest dungeons and complete tasks for the village leader. This game is built for the casual gaming community, however the hardcore player base can aim to reach the top of the leaderboards. The game is more challenging if you try to complete fast for more points and achievements, with automatic difficulty level adjustments.

A single session is between 45 minutes and 2 hours, based on your skill and campaign you choose. There are 2 campaign so far, but this number will increase as time goes. Since the game has multiple heroes, which are randomly chosen, you will face different challenges each session, different team compositions and you must try different tactics to finish your adventure.

* Play with your friend in a full co-op environment or complete the quests alone!
* Unique locations with secret rooms, doors and mystery!
* Optional puzzle-like RPG elements to unlock secret locations and achievements!
* Deep combat system!

For a "first person puzzler", there sure seems to be a lot of shooting red barrels with lightning bolts to blow up skeletons.
If not for the technical limitations of the time, Myst would've been about shooting lightning bolts at exploding barrels to kill skeletons. The technologies of the present day allow for unparalleled gaming experiences.
:kingcomrade:

Totally gonna grab that demo and check it out, though.

That's part of a small demo festival for The Game Awards: https://store.steampowered.com/sale/thegameawardsfestival
GRAVEN: Liked the art style and the Intro was impressive from a graphical and art design point of view, but the combat seems a bit broken. Can take down 4-5 zombies in a horde, bosses or any of the enemies by just circle-strafing around them while hitting them with the staff and they won't be able to evade or hit you back. Once you learn that you barely even need any HP pots anymore. Otherwise it seems to be mostly NPCs around a town in the middle of the swamp sending you to click more zombies and similar dead.

Echo Generation: Interesting art style and Mood, vaguely reminiscent of Stranger Things. You play a Teenage boy in a Suburb, can get others to join your party and there's Turn-based fights (so far against Raccoons, Giant rats and there was a boss), you gather XP, Level Up, collect new combat abilities by finding Comics around the world and there's stranger shit going on around some sort of killer running wild, an alien spaceship crashed in a cornfield etc. The animals can talk and can be a bit macabre, sometime later your cat joins your combat party but that's about where the Demo ends. There were a few concerning elements like repeatable fights and by the end of the short Demo I had to grind a bit on a group of racoons and rats to level up and get more HP for the finale. Seemed the most promising from the bunch tbh.

ANNO: Mutationem: Starts like a mildly interesting Adventure in a Cyberpunk world with Animu aesthetic where you can walk around a city, pick up stuff for your inventory, Examine other stuff, talk to people etc. but by the end becomes Side-scroller with Meh combat.

Selfloss: Seems to be a very "artistic" game, I guess the art style might be intriguing but I got bored by it within like 10 minutes since there's nothing to really do.
