We've known for quite some time that Piranha Bytes were working on a sequel to science fantasy cult favorite ELEX. When THQ Nordic failed to show up at E3 this week, everybody assumed the game would only be formally revealed at Gamescom later this year. Turns out they decided to just go ahead and announce it independently. Behold ELEX II, a sequel set several years after the first game in which protagonist Jax must unite the factions of Magalan against a new threat and find his lost son. Here's the announcement trailer (warning: gratuitous heavy metal) and accompanying press release:

Probably the best-kept secret is finally getting revealed: The next Piranha Bytes Game is indeed ELEX II. Surprise!

The planet Magalan has seen some rather peaceful years after the Events of ELEX I: old factions have been vanquished, new factions have risen. The Berserkers’ attempts to regrow and terraform the lands have started to bear fruit. After the defeat of the Hybrid, the Albs are no longer a threat. However, our hero - Jax - returns with knowledge of a new menace that’s casting a shadow over Magalan. It falls to Jax to unite these different factions together to face this darkness together.

ELEX II is in development for PC, PlayStation®4, PlayStation®5, Xbox One™ and the Xbox Series S/X™. There is no official release date yet. ELEX II can be wishlisted now on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/900040

There might not be an official release date yet, but the game's Steam page briefly showed a launch window in 2021 before being changed to "Coming Soon". Maybe they're saving that news for Gamescom.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
Music is by Jonathan Davis from Korn.
It works for the vid, imo.
I don't really like it, but it certainly is a lot better than the shit music used in every other trailer these days.
It's certainly a lot different. Doesn't necessarily mean good tho.

The art of any music track is to match the music to the picture. This is like playing a Mass Effect-like synth soundtrack with the Kingdom Come 2 trailer or a jingly-jangly Jappy anime music with the TES 6 trailer - retarded. Pankratz' love for hard rock clearly robbed him of sound judgement.

An underrated part of the ELEX experience is the bad voice acting. It adds to the game flavour. :)
