What I wanna understand from you guys is;

  • What specific features or elements from the original game are you most hoping to see preserved in the remake?
  • Any modern gaming mechanics/tropes or design elements you think could enhance the Gothic experience?
  • What are your biggest fears about this remake?
  • How do you think the remake should handle the original’s notorious difficulty curve?

1-Dark atmosphere, quests, small but alive hand crafted open world and of course Herr Mannelig performance by in Extremo.
2-Better, more responsive controls, more detailed journal/log book, character screen and inventory. (Maybe a bit more content in the last third of the game).
3-Woke shit, strong independent wymen and niglets everywhere. Reduced difficulty, quest markers and fast travel. Also I am afraid the developers will want to increase the world size and reduce quality of it.
4-Gothic without its difficulty curve is not Gothic. Leave it the hell alone.
Thank you for asking.

1-Great design of the open world where every nook and cranny is worth exploring, great feeling of progression (from zero to hero) over the course of the game
2-Gothic's economy was completely busted with the player swimming in cash (or "ore" in this case). Fix it.
3-That you don't understand what made Gothic great (why else even ask question 1 otherwise? You should know this!) and will try to lift mechanics from modern RPGs, thus torpedoing the whole design
4-Gothic 1 wasn't notoriously difficult. Gothic 2 NotR was. Don't you dare make it easier. If you can't resist the temptation to muck about with it, make it more difficult.

Leave as is. Don't change for "broader appeal among audience". Millions play Elden Ring btw.
Getting rekt by wildlife is part of the charm. Then you level up, get some gear and wtfpwn all who wronged you.

It looks ok but what is that god awful VA? Is it AI or just the most generic person available doing one take?

  • How do you think the remake should handle the original’s notorious difficulty curve?
Iirc the only parts I had trouble with on my first run (a few years ago) were:
Right at the start when reaching the old camp. The solution I found was to ask the dude to escort me to the swamp camp, as this gave a lot of free xp and let me start curving.
The very final fight. As a swamp camper I had no high tier magic, so the enemies were pretty rough.

These are pretty minor issues, so better to leave it alone. Maybe signpost the easiest ways to get xp a bit more, but even that seems like it risks the exploration.

Magic being good, and each faction handling it a bit differently. Different attack animations at different skill levels, and skill training being diegetic are also must haves.

Gothic has very dated controls and interface. I think the game could also benefit from some kind of faster movement option than jogging.

Also, are you even associated with the game in any way? :M

Me? Lol, no.

Just interested to know your opinions, since Gothic is a generally appreciated classic on here.
I have yet to try the original, myself.
Which, I would ofc do before playing any remake/popamole

I'm not slavic enough to like a game with broken controls, but do they still have this ipainting with naked girls?

Pretty sure the first thing they did was eliminating everything that can be offensive to wombyn in this fag of a remake. So no bathing Velaya, no hotties scrubbing floors at Gomez's crib, no sexy drawings etc.

Also controls are not bad when you get used to them, give original games a try.

I remember that in the beginning, because I hadn't been through much, they dropped the women into the Zone along with the other supplies.

I don't know, I'm still traumatized by my desperate acrobatics to open the chest :D

They already said they will be "expanding" the world, adding new quests/characters, etc.

100% this means over9000 female characters added to the game, they'll either retcon the whole "women are only sex slaves" thing, and just add them randomly everywhere as equals, or they will keep the slave thing, but sanitized and toned down (no sexual references, they just clean), while adding a new girlboss camp and a 4th path through the game letting you ally with them and own teh old camp patriarchy.

Tbh I wouldn't mind a faction of womynz who were originally dropped in as sex slaves, but managed to liberate themselves and establish their own stronghold.

Provided it's made clear that these women didn't magically fight their way out of their predicament with girlboss powers, but simply got help from men who became sympathetic to their plight, and would rather keep them as their wives than have them passed around as whores.

Of course, that's not how they're going to do this in the current_year. At the very least, can I hope that there will be no female blacksmiths?

If they even added anything so fucking stupid as this, fuck this shit, I'm out.

Every single one of them.

No.

What are your biggest fears about this remake?
Literally any changes made other than enhanced textures while keeping the original feel or making the faction choice matter more to the ending (i.e. more C&C) is a mistake.

How do you think the remake should handle the original’s notorious difficulty curve?
The difficulty curve was perfect and both Gothic & Gothic 2 let you figure out ways to do things way out of your level. Leave it.

They are often actually reacting to feedback given on their Discord. I think the trailer took a lot on board the fanbase wanted.

We have not seen if the game will be shit or not but atmosphere wise? That looks going to be in the right direction.

Just let it rest peacefully, a monument to better days. There's no need to make any changes to Gothic 1 or 2; bashing your head against it for the first hour is part of the charm.
