I thought it was obvious/known that Ciri would be the protagonist for the next Witcher game? I'd be pissed if I'd expected Geralt, but this isn't outside expectations. I enjoyed TW3 for what it was (still have to play the Expansion pack someday..) and I'm sure TW4 will be mostly more of the same. Hopefully they'll focus on making a good game and not spend too much braincells considering everyone's fragile sensibilities.

It's a tiny team that made so much money with HK they don't need to develop Silksong, its basically a passion project. It will come out eventually, lots of people have played the demo for Silksong already
Star Citizen on the other hand is a scam with hundreds of people working on it and costs like the budget of a tiny African nation

It WAS obvious and 10 years ago most people would've rejoiced. But it's 2024, you can't open your fucking fridge without another ugly female protag tumbling out, I think the lack of rejoicing is understandable.

All will depend on the writing but considering modern western devs' ability to write female characters I'm not exactly holding my breath. Today's CDPR is not what it used to be 15 years ago, just like Bioware (and we know how that turned out).

They should have just called it something else, it probably would have a better chance. The fact that they are calling it THE WITCHER 4 and you don't play as the protag of the first 3 games. Yeah there goes 90% of your sales.

There won't be any after such announcement, just as there wasn't one for Stellar Blade either, a game that was conveniently never on the Game Awards lists, much like Wukong. Gaming has definitely become more political than ever. Once the game is released and people realize the plot is dull and too safe, or that they’ve uglified Ciri, prioritizing avoiding the white male gaze above all else, it will happen, people will complain. Remember how the erotic cards in The Witcher 1 are now considered "too much" by the new CD Projekt? You can indeed fear the worst. When that happens, the complaints and boycotts will follow for sure.
