I preferred the rhythm minigame combat to the poor Bamham-inspired combat in the sequel. Fucking baffling that they thought it would be a good idea to randomize your attacks. I can only assume that it was done to make the game more appealing to watch as you wouldn't repeat the same move over and over, at the cost of player control. The combat in TW1 was passable for what it tried to be; the combat in TW2 was just awful and unresponsive.

I agree TW1's wasn't too annoying (just primitive). TW3 actually has decent combat mechanics, except that it's mostly ruined by the dysfunctional levelling system (sometimes I wonder if disgruntled devs sabotage games on purpose, or maybe they get paid to sabotage by competitors?).

I would highly recommend anyone looking to play Witcher 3 for the first time, or replay it, to use the Ghost Mode overhaul mod. Not only does it add a more meaningful progression system in, but makes alchemy much more impactful, and adds some much needed challenge to the experience, among a host of other great changes. Turns an alright story action adventure game into a genuinely good action RPG.

The Ciri parts were also the worst on the books. And the first season of the show (the only one I watched). She is a plot device meant to humanize and motivate Geralt, imo. Putting her as the full protagonist just completely ruins one of the main themes of the series.

There are so many things wrong with that trailer.
- A peasant trying to grab a witcher by the shoulder like if was nothing when witchers are supposed to be feared by the commonfolk like freaks.
- Ciri acting like an asshole for no reason whatsoever when she was raised by Geralt to be mostly easy going.
- Her design is now bulkier and heavy, when her fighting style is supposed to be flexible and lithe.
- DRINKING a potion AFTER combat starts instead of BEFORE.
- Telling the girl she is supposed to save to fuck off instead of reassuring her.
- Defeating a monster twice as big as her with BRUTE force instead of wit or luck. Not even Geralt could do that.
- The worst part is the ending. In an attempt to "subvert expectations" they show the girl she was trying to safe gets killed by the peasants instead of the monster. But only shows Ciri as incompetent.

If she wanted to save the girl, why didn't she take measures for that instead of telling her to fuck off? In contrast Geralt successfully saved a girl of being hanged and killed a demon without causalities in similar situations. And that line about Gods not existing? Shit's looking bad.
