Oh, come on, people. It's not like you play blobbers for their writing.
... still one expects some minimal quality.. which this game does not reach.

Look, it doesn't have to be great, I agree. Besides, we're merely commenting on the quality. Not that it will stop us from playing. But the emoticon crap? That's kind of pushing it to be honest. I mean I didn't even recognize one of those things you put up there.

And seeing crap like :/ just kills it for me. Sorry.

Was thinking about checking it out until I saw that shit. If I'm going to be reading something, in any genre, it's got to be at least vaguely tolerable. This isn't even fanfiction tier.

Well, I initially didn't recognize either of them, that's why I put them there. But it's not like they pop out at every step, there aren't too many dialogs in the game and most of them are completely emoticon-free.

I'm really surprised to see this crap in a game programmed by J. Rohlik, since he's also writer and author of some decent novels.

Same here. I am just going to wait for Humble Bundle edition and pick it up there like I did with Paper Sorcerer (which is a good thing because that game got samey and boring after 2 hours).

Between Eisenwald and this, I'm beginning to suspect that European indie developers are getting taken advantage of by unqualified translators.

Because they are. Everyone who finished high school and knows how to inglese on a communicative level thinks himself a translator nowadays, and many of them flock into pseudo-freelancing and offer shitty quality and/or unqualified services for shitty money, spoiling the market for people (LIKE THE ROXORS OF THIS WORLD) who actually know their shit.

And don't even get me started on Fan Translations (tm) that are done by a bunch of tards on a forum for free.

We prefer to be called Codexers.

Your loss, it's not getting a discount anytime soon.
(actually quite the opposite, the price is supposed to increase to 15$ once it's out of EA)

Yeah, sorry I linked you to this. Looks pretty crappy so far. Hopefully the PC port makes a bog improvent, but so far I'm turned off by a few things I'm seeing.

The party banter in W8 is the platinum standard for all of gaming which none since have met. Saying blobbers have bad writing is forgetting a lot of word-heavy blobbers like Wizardry VII and W8. Now, I get what you're saying - the writing is a secondary form, there only to support the primary form (mondbluting). But when you make a blobber, you must still feel fear that it will be compared to other prominent games in the field.

There's a big difference between a game not being a storyfag wankfest and having bad writing - and W8 highlights that difference tremendously.

Almost all of which were released more than 15 years ago.

Not quite.
The big question is - what in a given game drives you forward? If it's quests and setting/story then writing is crucial, and it being bad can utterly destroy a game (case in point: Antharion). It's not a question of a game being "storyfag wankfest", it's just the way goals are communicated.
In blobbers like this the goals are communicated mainly through level design and puzzles - and both of those in 7 Mages are top notch, making it quite easy to forgive the bad writing.
(Not to mention that it's not as much bad writing per se as bad translation.)

Just the fact that the basic premise is from Seven Samurai intrigues me. Will keep an eye on it.
