You know, I find it somewhat remarkable that Alone in the Dark, which wasn't even that good of a game to begin with, has spawned so many sequels and spinoffs. I can't imagine any motivation for this other than brand recognition, because for some unfathomable reason almost everyone's also heard of the title.

Blame Resident Evil. The reason companies are still making Alone in the Dark games post the first three is most likely the success of Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 in the 1990.

It’s also a really good name. I’m not sure how much brand recognition or awareness the series really has, but it is a good name. Most people’s awareness of the brand probably comes from it being brought up as an influence for Resident Evil, and some idea of that 2005 Uwe Boll movie.

Delayed to next year: https://www.thqnordic.com/article/staying-alone-dark-new-release-date-january-16th-2024

Skövde, Sweden / Vienna, Austria, September 5th, 2023: Horror games thrive on the delicate balance of tension, exploiting our vulnerability and the eerie embrace of solitude. Envision yourself traversing a dimly lit house in the dead of night, where faint whispers and unidentifiable noises send shivers down your spine. Now, picture this unsettling scenario not alone, but accompanied by a group of 28 intriguing individuals. The fear factor dwindles, doesn't it? Hence, the anticipated release of Alone in the Dark will gracefully step away from the chaotic October 2023 launch window.

Reasons
Our intention is to avoid competing with the wake of Alan's epic release and to evade the dazzling skyline of cities adorned by the graceful swings of Spider-Man. We aim to truly remain as Alone in the Dark as possible. To honor this, the spine-chilling horror game has been rescheduled to unveil its horrors on January 16th, 2024. This extension will serve a dual purpose: not only will it permit us to meticulously perfect the gaming experience, but it will also grant us the opportunity to fully immerse ourselves in the remarkable releases of October.

Alone in the Dark is a love letter to the ground-breaking original that lets you experience a haunting story through the eyes of one of the two protagonists: play as either Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood in this re-imagination of the classic survival horror game where Psychological Horror meets Southern Gothic. Explore your environments, fight monsters, solve puzzles, and uncover the uneasy truth of Derceto Manor...

Deep in the 1920's South, Emily Hartwood's uncle has gone missing. Together with private investigator Edward Carnby, she embarks on a journey to Derceto Manor, a home for the mentally ill where something is lurking. You'll encounter strange residents, nightmarish realms, and dangerous monsters, and ultimately uncover the plot of rising evil. At the intersection of reality, mystery, and insanity, an adventure awaits that will change your core beliefs. Who can you trust, what will you believe, and what will you do next?

Alone in the Dark is developed by Pieces Interactive in Sweden and will be coming to PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PlayStation®5 on January 16th, 2024.

Even the logos of these movie games reflect the pernicious influence of TLOU.TLOU, Alan Wake II, and now Alone in the Dark. All of them have bold, white, all caps text logos.

Delayed again to March 20th: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1310410/view/3869218343112410420

Skövde, Sweden / Vienna, Austria - December 7, 2023: The year is coming to an end, and the Christmas Holidays are upon us. However, until today, it didn't seem that way for Pieces Interactive, the team developing our upcoming survival-horror game, Alone in the Dark. With our initially planned release date in January 2024, the Christmas season would have been filled with stress and anything but a jolly time for them.

Therefore, THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive have decided to give Alone in the Dark a new release date: March 20th, 2024.

The well-being of the teams is a top priority, and both companies want to avoid any potential crunch over the Christmas holidays. Furthermore, THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive want to ensure that the game not only meets but exceeds the expectations of the community, especially with the outstanding performances of Hollywood stars David and Jodie as the main protagonists.

We understand that many people are eagerly awaiting the release, but your patience will be rewarded. We are thrilled to scare the living daylights out of you on March 20th, 2024!

Festive greetings from Louisiana! We wish you light to dispel any darkness as the longest night of the year approaches. But 2023 is almost over and a new nightmare awaits when the gates to Derceto open on March 20, 2024.

Thanks God Capcom killed the genre with RE4.

I basically have been in the habit of CONSOOMING everything related to Lovecraft even if it is mediocre(i.e: Sinking City and Call of Chthulu) so who am I kidding, I will probably buy and play this on release.

The one thing I draw the line on is Alan Moore's paraphilia perv comics or that "Lovecraft but full of niggers" hbo tv show. With that shit looking at reviews or trailers was enough to know to avoid it.

This has the potential to be good but I'm quite positive I will be disappointed as usual. Last really good lovecraftian game I have played was the original Amnesia.
